The high prevalence of intestinal parasites in horticultural families is associated with inadequate environmental sanitation, a limited access to education, and insufficient hygienic habits. An increase in parasitological references in integrated studies (human, animal and environmental health) would result in an understanding of the parasitic etiology, and the development of effective actions for the control of intestinal parasites.
Hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) is a life-threatening complication of Shiga toxin-producing
(STEC) infection. The relationship between STEC exposure and severity of clinical outcomes is not well documented. We examined whether direct contact with farm animals increased the likelihood of HUS among Indiana residents diagnosed with STEC.
Exposure data for laboratory-confirmed STEC cases among Indiana residents during 2012-2018 were retrieved. Logistic regression and mediation analysis were performed to determine the extent to which a history of direct contact with farm animals was associated with post-diarrheal HUS independent of age and mediated by
gene presence.
A total of 784 STEC cases were retrieved. Of these, 46 (6%) developed HUS. Complete exposure data were available for 600 (77%) cases. A total of 24 (52%) HUS patients reported direct contact with farm animals, while 114 (21%) STEC patients who did not develop HUS reported this exposure. Among all STEC cases, HUS was associated with direct farm animal contact after adjusting for age (OR=3.40, 95% CI 1.81, 6.40). Detection of
genes mediated 12% of the association between farm animal contact and HUS.

To date, four species of Trichinella have been isolated in wild boar populations in Europe T. pseudospiralis, T. spiralis, T. britovi and T. nativa, in addition to several mixed infection types and one hybrid formation between T. britovi and T. spiralis. Meanwhile, insufficiently thermally processed wild boar meat has been reported to be a source of trichinellosis in humans in several European countries. In Croatia, there have been no reported or proven cases of trichinellosis caused by wild boar meat consumption. The aim of this study was to obtain data on the prevalence of Trichinella species present in Croatia and to anticipated the potential risk of infection for humans in specific Croatian regions based on information obtained over an eight-year surveillance period. A veterinary inspection of wild boar carcasses for Trichinella larvae in Croatia has been mandatory since 1989, and the artificial digestion method was introduced as a compulsory test for wild boar samples in 2008. Based on the official data submitted to the Ministry of Agriculture, Directorate of Veterinary Services, in the period 2010-2017, 303 of 183,184 (0.17%) wild boar meat samples tested positive for Trichinella spp. Infected wild boar were found in 18 of 21 counties. Of these positive samples, 85 were submitted by the authorised veterinary inspectors to the National Reference Laboratory for further examination. The intensity of infection in muscle samples was 0.04-152.66 (mean 23,37) larvae per gram, and Trichinella species were identified as T. spiralis, T. britovi, T. pseudospiralis and T. spiralis + T. britovi. Genetic analysis of T. pseudospiralis isolates demonstrated their belonging to the Palaearctic population.Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) is already affecting human and animal health sectors negatively. The UN General Assembly has listed AMR among issues that need urgent address; subsequently FAO/OIE/WHO tripartite took lead and jointly developed Global Action Plan (GAP) to tackle the problem. States and Governments have developed AMR National Action Plans (NAP), Policies and Communication Strategies. In health communication realms AMR is a distinctive and novel phenomenon. Consequently, communication theories and principles on this issue have not been tested adequately; even as literature around AMR is growing. While there are lessons that can be learned from previous and ongoing health communication campaigns targeting various audiences and coined around behavior change strategies; AMR is certainly a unique and maiden case. Kenya developed and is implementing its AMR - NAP. Kenya is among few countries that have developed and implemented an AMR Communication Strategy with the goal to create awareness and subsequently change audience behavior. This paper presents a review of available literature, reports, Kenya experiences and theories that can be applied to AMR communications. It illustrates the gaps, opportunities and challenges and proposes strategies that can be applied at the moment as more literature on AMR communication is collected through research and documentation of country experiences.
The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the website pages of integrated plastic and reconstructive surgery resident aesthetic clinics in the United States.
Website pages dedicated to resident aesthetic clinics in all integrated plastic and reconstructive surgery residency programs (
=79) were accessed between October and November 2019 and evaluated across several criteria, including number of pages, procedures offered, faculty participation, respective prices, patient photographs, patient testimonials, contact information, and specific recruitment incentives.
Seventy-nine integrated and 54 independent residency programs were identified, 31 of which had both an integrated and an independent residency program for a total of 102 distinct programs. Out of these, only 11 programs (10.8%) had a webpage dedicated to their resident aesthetic clinic (Figure 1). Twelve other programs (13.7%) that did not have a dedicated webpage mentioned a resident aesthetic clinic elsewhere on their residency program website.
