Genome-Wide Recognition associated with Copy Range Variants and Their Connection to Distinct Phenotypes from the World's Lambs.
To better present the performance of fingertip localization on THU-Bi-Hand, we propose a novel scheme termed bi-stream pose-guided region ensemble network (Bi-Pose-REN). It extracts more representative feature regions around joints in the feature maps under the guidance of the previously estimated pose. The feature regions are integrated hierarchically according to the topology of hand joints to regress a refined hand pose. Bi-Pose-REN and several existing methods are evaluated on THU-Bi-Hand so that benchmarks are provided for further research. Experimental results show that our Bi-Pose-REN has achieved the best performance on THU-Bi-Hand.Recently, a phonemic-based tactile speech communication system was developed with the goal to transmit speech through the skin for people with hearing impairments and those whose auditory and visual channels are overloaded or compromised. The display, called the TActile Phonemic Sleeve (TAPS), consisted of a 4-by-6 tactor array worn on the dorsal and volar surfaces of the forearm. Earlier work showed that people were able to learn the haptic symbols for 39 English phonemes and reach a mean phoneme recognition rate of 86% correct within one to four hours of training. The current research evaluated the acquisition of up to 500 words using TAPS. A total of 51 participants were trained and tested in three studies with increasing number of phonemes and vocabulary sizes. Individual achievements varied, but the results clearly demonstrate the potential of transmitting any English word using TAPS within a reasonable period of learning. Future work will include increasing the speech transmission rate with TAPS by improving the phonemic codes and reducing the inter-phoneme intervals, addressing the reception of words and sentences composed of strings of tactile phonemes, and assessing the performance of TAPS as a speech communication system for people with severe hearing impairments. An ultra-high frame rate and high resolution ion-sensing Lab-on-Chip platform using a 128x128 CMOS ISFETarray is presented. Current mode operation is employed to facilitate high-speed operation, with the ISFET sensors biased in the triode region to provide a linear response. Sensing pixels include a reset switch to allow in pixel-calibration for nonidealities such as offset, trapped charge and drift by periodically resetting the floating gate of the ISFET sensor. Current mode row-parallel signal processing is applied throughout the readout pipeline including auto-zeroing circuits for the removal of fixed pattern noise. Bcl-2 inhibitor The 128 readout signals are multiplexed to eight high-sample-rate on-chip current mode ADCs followed by an off-chip PCIe-based digital readout system on a FPGA with a latency of 0.15s. Designed in a 0.35 um CMOS process, the complete system-on-chip occupies an area of 2.6mm x 2.2mm and the whole system achieves a frame rate of 3000fps which is the highest reported in the literature. The platform is demonstrated for real-time ion-imaging through the high-speed visualisation of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) diffusion in water. Furthermore, the proposed platform is able to achieve real-time visualisation of ion dynamics on a screen at 60fps in addition to slow-motion replay in 3000fps.The increasing utilization of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in early detection of Alzheimer's disease (AD) is attributed to the change of Amyloid-β proteins. Since, the brain is suspended in CSF, changes of Amyloid-β proteins in CSF reflect a pathophysiological variation of the brain due to AD. However, the correlation between Amyloid-β proteins and the dielectric properties (DPs) of CSF is still an open question. This paper reports the characterized DPs of CSF collected from canines using lumbar punctures. The CSF samples from canines show a strong correlation with respect to human in terms of the loss tangent, which indicates suitability of using canines as translational primates. Amyloid-β [Aβ(1-40) and Aβ(1-42)] proteins associated with AD were added to CSF samples in order to emulate AD condition. The results of emulated AD condition suggest a decrease in the relative permittivity and increase in the loss tangent. To detect changes in the loss tangent of CSF, which combines both relative permittivity and conductivity, a developed sensor is proposed. The designed sensor consists of a voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) and implantable antenna, which exhibits a wideband and low quality factor to be stable with respect to changes in the loss tangent of CSF. The measurements of the received power level from the sensor in different liquid-based phantoms having different loss tangent values were used to correlate changes in the loss tangent. The developed correlation model is able to predict the loss tangent due to AD in CSF based on the received power level.Bulk samples of the same patient are heterogeneous in nature, comprising of different subpopulations (subclones) of cancer cells. Cells in a tumor subclone are characterized by unique mutational genotype profile. Resolving tumor heterogeneity by estimating the genotypes, cellular proportions and the number of subclones present in the tumor can help in understanding cancer progression and treatment. We present a novel method, ChaClone2, to efficiently deconvolve the observed variant allele fractions (VAFs), with consideration for possible effects from copy number aberrations at the mutation loci. Our method describes a state-space formulation of the feature allocation model, deconvolving the observed VAFs from samples of the same patient into three matrices subclonal total and variant copy numbers for mutated genes, and proportions of subclones in each sample. We describe an efficient sequential Monte Carlo (SMC) algorithm to estimate these matrices. Extensive simulation shows that the ChaClone2 yields better accuracy when compared with other state-of-the-art methods for addressing similar problem and it offers scalability to large datasets. Also, ChaClone2 features that the model parameter estimates can be refined whenever new mutation data of freshly sequenced genomic locations are available. MATLAB code and datasets are available to download at https//github.com/moyanre/method2.
