Hydatid cysts excision using Dowling's technique of hydrodissection.
PV stenosis after HBA was observed most frequently in the right superior PV (50%). The atrial fibrillation/atrial tachycardia-free survival rate during follow-up (365 ± 102 days) was similar between the two groups (CBA vs. HBA, 83% vs. 90%).

Although both balloon modalities can relieve atrial arrhythmia after the procedure, careful attention is required during HBA procedures, especially for the right superior PV, to avoid PV stenosis.

End-stage renal disease (ESRD) is a well-recognized risk factor for the development of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). There is limited data on baseline characteristics and outcomes after an in-hospital SCA event in ESRD patients.

For the purpose of this study, data were obtained from the National Inpatient Sample from January 2007 to December 2017. In-hospital SCA was identified using the International Classification of Disease, 9th Revision, Clinical Modification and International Classification of Disease, 10th Revision, Clinical Modification codes of 99.60, 99.63, and 5A12012. ESRD patients were subsequently identified using codes of 585.6 and N18.6. Baseline characteristics and outcomes were compared among ESRD and non-ESRD patients in crude and propensity score (PS)-matched cohorts. Predictors of mortality in ESRD patients after an in-hospital SCA event were analyzed using a multivariate logistic regression model.

A total of 1,412,985 patients sustained in-hospital SCA during our study period. ESRD patients with in-hospital SCA were younger and had a higher burden of key co-morbidities. Mortality was similar in ESRD and non-ESRD patients in PS-matched cohort (70.4% vs. 70.7%, p = 0.45) with an overall downward trend over our study years. Advanced age, Black race, and key co-morbidities independently predicted increased mortality while prior implantable defibrillator was associated with decreased mortality in ESRD patients after an in-hospital SCA event.

In the context of in-hospital SCA, mortality is similar in ESRD and non-ESRD patients in adjusted analysis. Adequate risk factor modification could further mitigate the risk of in-hospital SCA among ESRD patients.

The study aims at investigating psychometric properties of the Edinburgh cognitive and behavioural ALS screen (ECAS) in Parkinson's (PD) and Huntington's (HD) diseases. The sensitivity and specificity of the ECAS in highlighting HD and PD cognitive-behavioural features and in differentiating between these two populations and from healthy controls (HC) were evaluated. Moreover, correlations between the ECAS and traditional cognitive measures, together with core clinical features, were analysed.

Seventy-three PD patients, 38 HD patients, and 49 education-matched healthy participants were enrolled. Participants were administered the ECAS, together with other cognitive screening tools and psychological questionnaires. Patients' behavioural assessment was also carried out with carers.

The ECAS distinguished between HD patients and HC and between the two clinical syndromes with high sensitivity and specificity. API2 Even if the diagnostic accuracy of the ECAS in distinguishing between PD and HC was low, the PD cognitive phenotype was very well described by the ECAS performances. Convergent validity of the ECAS against other traditional cognitive screening was observed, as well as correlations with psychological aspects and typical clinical features, especially for the HD group.

The ECAS represents a rapid and feasible tool, useful also in other neurodegenerative disorders affecting verbal-motor abilities than the amyotrophic lateral sclerosis such as PD and HD. Clinical applications in these neurodegenerative conditions require further investigations and, probably, some adaptations of the original test.

We aimed to (i) analyse the clinical characteristics, treatment outcome and long-term prognosis of anti-NMDAR encephalitis and (ii) study the differences between paediatric and adult patients.

This was a chart review of all patients with anti-NMDAR encephalitis.

There were 28 patients with 18 patients belonging to the paediatric (<18 years) age group. There was female (94%) preponderance in the paediatric age group, while in adult patients, there was no gender predilection (p=0.006). There was no significant difference in clinical feature, outcome or number of relapses between paediatric and adult population groups. MRI brain was abnormal in 53% of patients. Among the 15 patients with MRI abnormalities at the onset, 53% had poor functional outcome at 1 year, while in 12 patients with normal initial MRI brain, only 8% had poor functional outcome at 1 year (p =0.01). Nearly 53% of patients with abnormal MRI at presentation had at least one clinical relapse within 2 years while in patients with normal Momparable in both the paediatric and adult groups. Patients with parenchymal changes on MRI and abnormal EEG showed poorer response compared to those with normal MRI and/or EEG at the onset. Patients have lesser severity of symptoms at relapse than in the first episode. An early diagnosis and treatment are essential for better long-term functional outcome.Verinurad, a uric acid transporter 1 (URAT1) inhibitor, lowers serum uric acid by promoting its urinary excretion. Co-administration with a xanthine oxidase inhibitor (XOI) to simultaneously reduce uric acid production rate reduces the potential for renal tubular precipitation of uric acid, which can lead to acute kidney injury. The combination is currently in development for chronic kidney disease and heart failure. The aim of this work was to apply and extend a previously developed semi-mechanistic exposure-response model for uric acid kinetics to include between-subject variability to verinurad and its combinations with XOIs, and to provide predictions to support future treatment strategies. The model was developed using data from 12 clinical studies from a total of 434 individuals, including healthy volunteers, patients with hyperuricemia, and renally impaired subjects. The model described the data well, taking into account the impact of various patient characteristics such as renal function, baseline fractional excretion of uric acid, and race.
