Delayed MERISTEM IDENTITY1 handles leaf perimeter development through the auxin transporter gene Sleek Foliage MARGIN1.
In the work, a novel filamentou sodium alginate (SA) /ε-polylysine (PL) fiber with excellent mechanical properties and controllable sizes is prepared in an efficient and environmentally friendly manner via continuous pulling of an electrostatically assembled SA/PL composites at the contact interface of aqueous solutions of cationic polyelectrolyte ε-PL and anionic natural polysaccharide SA. The SA/PL fiber exhibits good antibacterial activity, low cytotoxicity, anti-hemolysis, bioadhesion, and environmental friendliness due to its natural raw materials and green preparation process. In vivo experiments have shown that the SA/PL fiber can promote the healing and repair of skin wounds on the backs of mice via resistance to pathogen infection, reduction of inflammation, and anti-allogeneic allergy of the wound. In summary, these results demonstrate that the SA/PL fiber is a green and biosafe multifunctional natural polymer material, with potential applications in suturing wound.Silicon (Si) is considered a beneficial element for plants, mostly accumulating in cell walls, where its location and content are primed by the chemistry and structure of lignin. It is unrevealed how Si interacts with the process of lignin formation in the CWs. We studied, in an in vitro system, the interaction of SiO2 with the peroxidase-catalyzed polymerization of a lignin monomer into the lignin model compound, imitating conditions of the last step of lignin formation. FTIR and fluorescence spectroscopy and microscopy showed that Si is bound to the final polymer, and the structure of the Si-DHP differs from pure DHP. Fluorescence spectroscopy showed that Si does not bind to the monomers, so Si probably inhibits the formation of the larger lignin fragments, as evidenced by HPLC-DAD, by binding to dimmers formed during DHP synthesis. The structural changes of the polymer are related to the changed proportion of the fractions of various MW. The enzyme catalyzing DHP synthesis was not inhibited by Si. HRP activity was increased in presence of Si except for 6 mM Si. This may indicate that the complex formed with Si and short oligomers activates the enzyme, and prevents the formation of the large fragments. The pulp and biorefining industries produce their waste as lignin, which is one of the most abundant renewable resources. So far, lignin has been remained severely underutilized and generally burnt in a boiler as a low-value fuel. N6methyladenosine To demonstrate lignin's potential as a value-added product, we will review market opportunities for lignin related applications by utilizing the thermo-chemical/biological depolymerization strategies (with or without catalysts) and their comparative evaluation. The application of lignin and its derived aromatics in various sectors such as cement industry, bitumen modifier, energy materials, agriculture, nanocomposite, biomedical, H2 source, biosensor and bioimaging have been summarized. This comprehensive review article also highlights the technical, economic, environmental, and socio-economic variable that affect the market value of lignin-derived by-products. The review shows the importance of lignin, and its derived products are a platform for future bioeconomy and sustainability. The use of lignin is limited by its heterogeneity and complexity. This study was processed using different methods to obtain spruce milled wood lignin (SMWL), spruce kraft lignin (SKL), and spruce lignocresol (SLC) for comparative analysis of the structure and antioxidant activity. SMWL has a complete softwood lignin side-chains structure and lignin carbohydrate complexes. SKL contains fewer ether bonds, while more conjugate structures and condensed structures contribute to the color. However, the α-position of the lignin side chain eliminates most of the hydroxyl and ether bonds (β-O-4/α-OH, phenylcoumaran, and dibenzodioxocine structure) and effectively grafts p-cresol in the phase separation reaction. It not only inhibits the self-condensation of lignin, but also forms the 1,1-diarylpropane unit while protecting β-O-4 linkages from not breaking. Importantly, SLC has few conjugate structures that result in the lightest color among all lignin isolated. Besides, SLC has a high yield and contains trace carbohydrates, indicating that the phase separation method can achieve great amounts of purity separated lignin. The antioxidant activity of lignin was evaluated, results show that 85% of the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radicals were scavenged at the end of 60 min. Owing to its unique color, structural properties, and continuous antioxidant activity, SLC has the potential to manufacture antioxidant cosmetics.Diabetic wound infection often leads to compromised healing with frequent chances of sepsis, amputation and even death. Traditional patient care emphasized on early debridement and fluid resuscitation followed by intravenous antibiotics therapy. However, compromised vasculature often limit the systemic effect of antibiotics. Current study focused formulation of chitosan HCl, κ- carrageenan and PVA based physical cross-linked hydrogel membrane dressings loaded with cefotaxime sodium (CTX), for potential diabetic burn wound healing by adopting solvent casting method. Results of mechanical strength shows tensile strength and % elongation of 12.63 ± 0.25 and 48 ±3.05 respectively. Water vapor transmission rate (WVTR) depicts that despite of formulation KCP3 and KCP6, all hydrogel membranes have WVTR value in range of ideal dressing i.e., 2000-2500 g/m2/day. Whereas, all hydrogel membranes have oxygen permibility values more than 8.2 mg/ml. Bacterial penetration analysis confirms the barrier property of formulated membranes. Drug loaded hydrogel membrane showed control release up to 24 hr which provide protection against bacterial proliferation. Present study aims to constructs diabetic burn rat model which demonstrate that CTX loaded hydrogel membrane shown significantly rapid wound closure higher re-epithelization and numerous granulation tissue formation as compared to positive and negative control group. Conclusively, it is confirmed that formulated hydrogel membranes are beneficial and can be considered as a promising membrane dressing to treat diabetic burn wound.Prostate cancer (PC) is the third-leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Although the current treatment strategies are progressing rapidly, PC is still representing a substantial medical problem for affected patients. Several factors are involved in PC initiation, progression, and treatments failure including microRNAs (miRNAs). The miRNAs are endogenous short non-coding RNA sequence negatively regulating target mRNA expression via degradation or translation repression. miRNAs play a pivotal role in PC pathogenesis through its ability to initiate the induction of cancer stem cells (CSCs) and proliferation, as well as sustained cell cycle, evading apoptosis, invasion, angiogenesis, and metastasis. Furthermore, miRNAs regulate major molecular pathways affecting PC such as the androgen receptor (AR) pathway, p53 pathway, PTEN/PI3K/AKT pathway, and Wnt/β-catenin pathway. Furthermore, miRNAs alter PC therapeutic response towards the androgen deprivation therapy (ADT), chemotherapy and radiation therapy (RT). Thus, the understanding and profiling of the altered miRNAs expression in PC could be utilized as a non-invasive biomarker for the early diagnosis as well as for patient sub-grouping with different prognoses for individualized treatment. Accordingly, in the current review, we summarized in updated form the roles of various oncogenic and tumor suppressor (TS) miRNAs in PC, revealing their underlying molecular mechanisms in PC initiation and progression.Modified chitosan with various functional groups has high potential as an efficient adsorbent in removing water pollution. In this study, new magnetic adsorbent, bio-based chitosan/Fe2O3/NiFe2O4, was successfully prepared by green chemistry route involving mixing of chitosan as core moiety and Fe2O3/NiFe2O4 nanocomposite, and slow evaporation of solvent. Synthesized chitosan/Fe2O3/NiFe2O4 was characterized by FT-IR, TGA, XRD, VSM and FE-SEM. The FT-IR and XRD results confirmed that the successful preparation of chitosan/Fe2O3/NiFe2O4. Uniform dispersion of Fe2O3/NiFe2O4 nanoparticles with low aggregation was confirmed by FE-SEM. The as-prepared magnetic chitosan/Fe2O3/NiFe2O4 was developed as solid phase adsorbent to remove methyl green (MG) dye from aqueous solutions. Several important parameters such as contact time, pH, temperature and adsorbent dosage were investigated systematically. The high and fast MG dye removal (≈ 80%) occurs after 30 min. The optimal conditions for MG removal was recorded at pH = 8, contact time of 60 min, adsorbent dosage of 0.2 g and 25 °C and displayed a high MG dye removal percentage of 96.51% and adsorption capacity of 77.22 mg/g.Ciprofloxacin, a biotoxic micropollutant, is ubiquitously found in the water environment, which is a global concern. This study developed polymeric S-C3N4/ZnO-Chitosan (indexed as SCZ-CH) hydrogels for degrading Ciprofloxacin. The SCZ-CH hydrogels provided the Ciprofloxacin degradation efficiencies of ~93% and ~69% in UV and visible lights, respectively, at optimum conditions (SCZ-CH hydrogels with 2 g/L SCZ, 20 mg/L initial concentration, pH 5, and room temperature). In addition, immobilized SCZ-CH hydrogels structures enable easy separation of the SCZ catalyst from water. The spectroscopic and microscopic analyses of SCZ-CH hydrogels show multifaceted properties, like high oxygen concentrations, crystallinity, stacked structure, high roughness, and improved bandgap energy, which are responsible for the enhanced photocatalytic activity. The effects of water matrix and experimental conditions on Ciprofloxacin degradation were also studied, which suggested that the catalyst dose and solution pH have significant effects on photocatalytic activity. SCZ-CH hydrogels have shown good mineralization efficiency (~98%) and reusability (up to 10 cycles) for Ciprofloxacin removal. Superoxide radicals played an essential role in the degradation of Ciprofloxacin. The Ciprofloxacin molecules get degraded by driving radicals through oxidation, defluorination, substitution, and breaking of the rings. The proposed SCZ-CH hydrogels can be effectively used at a large scale to treat micropollutants.Metallothioneins (MTs) are believed as key metal chelators and scavengers of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which are involved in tolerance and de-toxicity to multiple environmental stresses in plants. The MT gene family was characterized from upland cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.), compared with its putative genome donors G. arboretum and raimondii. Subsequently, gene functions were predicted by promoter analysis. Moreover, gene expressions subjecting to exogenous stimuli, as well as in terms of developments, were studied. The main findings were shown as follows 1) 19 GhMTs were identified from G. hirsutum, and the family completely included all four sub-types, namely p1, p2, p3, and pec. Sub-type p2 GhMTs were most conservative in protein motif compositions, gene structures, phylogenic relationships, and group numbers, while p3 GhMTs demonstrated much more diversiform and distant genetic relationships. 2) The GhMT family experienced apparent gene expansion, and the members from the D sub-genome were subjected to stronger environmental selection.
