Salmonella enterica serovar Enteritidis remains the most prevalent serotype causing human salmonellosis through the consumption of contaminated foods, especially poultry products. The development of a subunit vaccine against S. Enteritidis can not only protect chickens against Salmonella infection in the poultry industry but also cut the transmission sources. In this study, both the expressed recombinant outer membrane protein F (rOmpF) and extracted outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) were developed as subunit vaccines against S. Enteritidis challenge in chickens. Immunization with the subunit vaccine could induce not only antibody production but also strong cell-mediated immune response. Both rOmpF plus QuilA adjuvant and OMVs alone had highly protective efficacy against S. Enteritidis challenge and rapidly decreased the colonization of bacteria in chicken. These findings revealed the potential application of rOmpF and OMVs as subunit vaccines in the poultry industry. The most effective strategies for the control of disease in poultry are vaccination and biosecurity. Vaccines useful against pathogens affecting poultry must be safe, effective with a single dose, inexpensive, applicable by mass vaccination methods, and able to induce a protective immune response in the presence of maternal antibodies. Viral vector meet some of these characteristics and if the attenuated virus used as vector infects birds, the vaccine will have the advantage of being bivalent. Thus, viral vectors are currently a tool of choice for the development of new poultry vaccines. This review describes the main viruses used as vectors for the delivery and in vivo expression of antigens of poultry pathogens. It also presents the methodologies most frequently used to obtain recombinant viral vectors and summarizes the state-of-the-art related to vectored vaccines in poultry (some of them currently licensed), the pathogens targeted and their antigens, and the ability of these vaccines to induce an effective immune response. Finally, the review discusses the results of a few studies comparing recombinant viral vector vaccines and live-attenuated vaccines in vaccine matching challenges, and mentions strategies and future researches that can help to improve the efficacy of vectored vaccines in poultry birds.Relatively little is known about the differential impact of maternal and paternal perceptions of vaccine safety on children's vaccination status in New Zealand. Using a sample of 68 couples from the New Zealand Attitudes and Values Study (NZAVS), the present study investigated the distinct influence of mothers' and fathers' confidence in the safety of childhood vaccinations following the national immunisation schedule on their reports of children's vaccination status. Actor-Partner Interdependence Modelling revealed that mothers', but not fathers', vaccine confidence predicted children's vaccination status, regardless of who reported their children's vaccination status. Higher maternal vaccine confidence increased the likelihood of child full vaccination status, but paternal vaccine confidence showed no unique significant effects. As women tend to express lower vaccine confidence than men, it is imperative to further investigate the key drivers of their low confidence and develop target interventions accordingly. Encouraging fathers' involvement in the vaccination decision-making process may also be beneficial in increasing the likelihood of childhood vaccination uptake.Ebolavirus (EBOV) entry to host cells requires membrane-associated glycoprotein (GP). A recombinant vesicular stomatitis virus vector carrying Zaire Ebola virus glycoprotein (rVSV-ZEBOV) was developed as a vaccine against ebolaviruses. The VSV glycoprotein gene was deleted (rVSVΔG) and ZEBOV glycoprotein (GP) was inserted into the deleted VSV glycoprotein open reading frame (ORF) resulting in a live, replication-competent vector (rVSVΔG-ZEBOV-GP). Automated capillary westerns were used to characterize the rVSVΔG-ZEBOV-GP vaccine (ERVEBO®) manufacturing process with regards to glycoprotein (GP) structure and variants. The method shows a unique electropherogram profile for each process step which could be used to monitor process robustness. rVSVΔG-ZEBOV-GP encodes GP (GP1-GP2), secreted GP (sGP), and small secreted GP (ssGP) variants. Furthermore, a TACE-like activity was observed indirectly by detecting soluble GP2Δ after virus precipitation by ultracentrifugation. Capillary western blotting techniques can guide process development by evaluating process steps such as enzyme treatment. JTE 013 chemical structure In addition, the technique can assess GP stability and process lot-to-lot consistency. Finally, capillary western-based technology was used to identify a unique biochemical profile of the rVSVΔG-ZEBOV-GP vaccine strain in final product. Virion membrane-bound GP1-GP2 is critical to vaccine-elicited protection by providing both neutralizing antibodies and T-cell response.Conventional colectomy, and the Japanese Society for Cancer of the Colon and Rectum (JSCCR) D2 Lymphadenectomy (LND2), are currently considered standard of care for surgical management of colon cancer. Colectomy with complete mesocolic excision (CME) and JSCCR D3 Lymphadenectomy (LND3) are more radical alternative approaches and provide a greater degree of lymph nodal clearance. However, controversy exists over the long-term benefits of CME/LND3 over non-CME colectomies (NCME)/LND2. In this study, we performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to compare the surgical, pathological, and oncological outcomes of CME/LND3 with NCME/LND2. Embase, Medline and CENTRAL databases were searched from inception until May 15, 2020, in accordance with PRISMA guidelines. Studies were included if they compared curative intent CME/LND3 with NCME/LND2. Weighted mean differences (WMD) and odds ratios (OR) were estimated for continuous and dichotomous outcomes respectively. Out of 1310 unique citations, 106 underwent full-text review, and 30 were included for analysis. In total, 21,695 patients underwent resection for colon cancer. 11,625 received CME/LND3, and 10,070 underwent NCME/LND2. No significant differences were found in post-operative morbidity and mortality. Both overall and disease-free survival favored CME/LND3 (5-year OS OR = 1.29; 95% CI 1.02 to 1.64, p = 0.03; 5-year DFS OR = 1.61; 95% CI 1.14 to 2.28; p = 0.007). This is the first systematic review and meta-analysis to demonstrate that CME/LND3 has superior long-term survival outcomes compared to NCME/LND2.
