An updated checklist of the ants (Hymenoptera Formicidae) of Sri Lanka is presented. These include representatives of eleven of the 17 known extant subfamilies with 341 valid ant species in 79 genera. Lioponera longitarsus Mayr, 1879 is reported as a new species country record for Sri Lanka. Notes about type localities, depositories, and relevant references to each species record are given. Accounts of the dubious and some undetermined species from Sri Lanka are also provided. 82 species (24%) are endemic whereas 18 species that are non-native to Sri Lanka are recorded. The list provides a synthesis of the regional taxonomical work carried out to date and will serve as a baseline for future studies on the ant fauna of this biodiversity hotspot.Plagioclase feldspar is one of the most common rock-forming minerals on the surfaces of the Earth and other terrestrial planetary bodies, where it has been exposed to the ubiquitous process of hypervelocity impact. However, the response of plagioclase to shock metamorphism remains poorly understood. In particular, constraining the initiation and progression of shock-induced amorphization in plagioclase (i.e., conversion to diaplectic glass) would improve our knowledge of how shock progressively deforms plagioclase. In turn, this information would enable plagioclase to be used to evaluate the shock stage of meteorites and terrestrial impactites, whenever they lack traditionally used shock indicator minerals, such as olivine and quartz. Here, we report on an electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) study of shocked plagioclase grains in a metagranite shatter cone from the central uplift of the Manicouagan impact structure, Canada. Our study suggests that, in plagioclase, shock amorphization is initially localized either within pre-existing twins or along lamellae, with similar characteristics to planar deformation features (PDFs) but that resemble twins in their periodicity. These lamellae likely represent specific crystallographic planes that undergo preferential structural failure under shock conditions. The orientation of preexisting twin sets that are preferentially amorphized and that of amorphous lamellae is likely favorable with respect to scattering of the local shock wave and corresponds to the "weakest" orientation for a specific shock pressure value. This observation supports a universal formation mechanism for PDFs in silicate minerals.Shocked quartz and feldspar grains commonly exhibit planar microstructures, such as planar fractures, planar deformation features, and possibly microtwins, which are considered to have formed by shock metamorphism. Their orientation and frequency are typically reported to be randomly distributed across a sample. The goal of this study is to investigate whether such microstructures are completely random within a given sample, or whether their orientation might also retain information on the direction of the local shock wave propagation. For this work, we selected samples of shatter cones, which were cut normal to the striated surface and the striation direction, from three impact structures (Keurusselkä, Finland, and Charlevoix and Manicouagan, Canada). These samples show different stages of pre-impact tectonic deformation. Additionally, we investigated several shocked granite samples, selected at different depths along the drill core recovered during the joint IODP-ICDP Chicxulub Expedition 364 (Mexico). In this case, thin sections were cut along two orthogonal directions, one parallel and one normal to the drill core axis. All the results refer to optical microscopy and universal-stage analyses performed on petrographic thin sections. Our results show that such shock-related microstructures do have a preferred orientation, but also that relating their orientation with the possible shock wave propagation is quite challenging and potentially impossible. This is largely due to the lack of dedicated experiments to provide a key to interpret the observed preferred orientation and to the lack of information on postimpact orientation modifications, especially in the case of the drill core samples.
Efforts in the prevention and treatment of depression among Hispanic immigrant women require studies to identify modifiable factors of depression. Some factors that may merit investigation are gender roles such as egalitarian gender attitudes, marianismo, and self-silencing.
This cross-sectional study included 231 Hispanic immigrant women living in Miami-Dade County, Florida. Logistic regression was used to examine associations of covariates, egalitarian gender attitudes, marianismo, and self-silencing in relation to depression.
Egalitarian gender attitudes were not associated with depression. For marianismo domains, higher scores on the spiritual pillar scale were associated with lower odds of depression. With regard to self-silencing, higher scores on externalizing self-perception and divided self were associated with higher odds of depression.
Findings add to the limited literature on depression among Hispanic immigrants and provides some insight on sociocultural factors that may be considered in depression interventions for Hispanic immigrant women.

In both our results, we permit the amount of color made available to vertices of lower degree to be accordingly lower. One result concerns list coloring and correspondence coloring, while the other concerns fractional coloring. Our proof of the second illustrates the use of the hard-core model to prove a Johansson-type result, which may be of independent interest.
The soft tissue envelope around the knee can have an impact on the ease of performing surgery such as total knee replacement (TKR). BMI is often used in planning theatre time but may be a poor indicator of the soft tissue around the knee due to varying distribution of adipose tissue. Radiological images directly show the soft tissue. We therefore aim to develop a method of quantifying the soft tissue envelope around the knee using radiographs.
Plain weight-bearing radiographs were used to measure the total knee (soft tissue and bony) width at the level of the epicondyles of the knee and the bony epicondylar width of the femur. The ratio of the two widths was defined as the Soft Tissue Radiological Knee (SToRK) Index. The validity of the index as a true measure of soft tissue envelope was assessed using cross sectional areas on axial MRI cuts at the level of the epicondyles. The inter-observer reliability was assessed using the intra-class correlation coefficient. SToRK Index values were correlated with patients' BMI, gender and operative time.
The results show there is a close correlation between the ratio of cross sectional area of MRI axial cuts at the level of epicondyles and the ratio of linear widths measured on plain radiographs, validating the SToRK Index as a measure of soft tissue envelope. There was also good to excellent inter-rater reliability of measurements of these widths. There was a close correlation between BMI and SToRK Index with differences between men and women.
We believe the SToRK Index is a validated method of quantifying soft tissue distribution around the knee and gives surgeons a better descriptor of the knee envelope than BMI. It is easy to use, needs simple investigations and is reproducible.

Medial Compartment Osteoarthritis of the knee is becoming a widespread problem. The surgical options include high tibial osteotomy, unicompartmental knee replacement, and total knee replacement. Replacement surgeries are not advised in the younger age group, so in these patients, high tibial osteotomy is the only option. In this study, we have assessed the functional and radiological outcomes of high tibial osteotomy done by hemicallostasis method.
We report the outcome of 30 patients (30 knees) who underwent hemicallostasis with a dynamic external fixator for medial compartment osteoarthritis of the knee. The radiological assessment was done with the help of Hip Knee Ankle angle. The functional scoring was done via Oxford knee score, IKDC, KOOS, and WOMAC score.
At a mean follow up of 35 months, the preoperatively mean HKA angle was 172±30. The mean HKA angle postoperatively was 184±10. Appropriate correction of the HKA angle was achieved in 24 of 30 patients (80%). Whereas, there was under correction nt Osteoarthritis of the knee. Hip Knee Ankle Angle is an important parameter to restore for better functional outcomes. The Advantage of using a dynamic axial fixator is the precision in achieving calculated correction without any implant in the bone once the correction is achieved along with good healing rates.The osteochondroma of metatarsal is a rare clinical entity. It generally occurs in the first or second decade of life. The osteochondroma should be investigated to rule out any malignant changes before embarking any surgical intervention. We report an osteochondroma of 5th metatarsal in a 65 years old female as an unusual aetiology of foot pain. We propose the scalloping effect of the osteochondroma on adjacent metatarsal as one of the mechanisms of causing pain in the foot. After ruling out the malignant transformation with the help of MRI, excision of the tumour was done with a curvilinear incision on the dorsum of the foot. There was no recurrence in 1 year follow up. This case report depicts the occurrence of osteochondroma in geriatric patient as an unusual cause of foot pain. The scalloping effect on the adjacent bone and tissues can be the aetiology of the pain.While the ulnar sesamoid bone of the thumb and the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) are in close anatomic proximity, concurrent injury to these structures has not been reported. We report a case of such an injury in a 53-year-old male after an altercation. He was treated with surgical repair of the UCL, postoperative immobilization, and a graduated rehabilitation program consisting of range of motion and strengthening exercises. After review of the literature, we recommend that clinicians consider not just a volar plate injury, but also a UCL injury, in patients presenting with radiographic evidence of a sesamoid fracture. Clinicians should have a low threshold for advanced imaging in these patients to confirm any suspected ligamentous injury.Hemangioma in the patella is rare, and the osteolytic finding mimics a solid tumor. In the current report, a 69-year-old male with hemangioma in the patella had pain in the anterior left knee when kneeling. selleck chemicals llc The osteolysis was not obvious on plain radiographs in the anteroposterior or lateral views, but was clear in the axial view, as well as with computed tomography. Bone scintigraphy showed uptake of technetium. Magnetic resonance imaging suggested a cystic lesion, but a primary solid tumor with cystic changes could not be ruled out. After confirmation of the diagnosis by biopsy, curettage and beta-tricalcium phosphate grafting was performed. Preoperative symptoms disappeared 6 months after the operation. It is easy to miss these lesions on plain radiographs. Even after identification of the lesion, a solid tumor with a destructive nature would have been suspected because of the uptake on bone scintigraphy. In a previous report, patellectomy was performed, but curettage may be sufficient for a benign tumor, as in the current case.
