Endohedral fullerenes with paramagnetic encapsulated atoms are new magnetic materials of interest for numerous applications from medicine to quantum computers. An important phenomenon with endohedral fullerenes is the appearance of new vibrational frequencies not associated with empty fullerenes. The vibrational spectra of the lanthanide endohedral fullerenes La@C60 and Ce@C60 in various spin states are calculated using the density functional method. Most of the spectral lines lie in the 300-1600 cm-1range, and their intensities change dramatically depending on the molecule's symmetry and spin state, which are determined by the encapsulated lanthanide atom. The average frequency shift of the carbon cage vibrations caused by spin transition is only 5 cm-1. The calculated frequencies of the coupled "metal-carbon cage" vibrations of the lanthanide endohedral fullerenes La@C60 and Ce@C60 in various spin states lie in the 10-170 cm-1range. The computational results for both the frequencies and intensities of the metal-cage modes depend considerably on the spin state. The changes in these vibrational modes are due to the changes in the molecular symmetry and the metal-carbon bond lengths. Such dependence can be used as a basis for controlling the spin state of metallofullerenes by measuring the vibration frequencies in the far-infrared zone, which could be important for nanoelectronics and quantum informatics. The present work envisioned to synthesize europium complexes [Eu-(L)3-phen] (where, L is 4,4,4-Trifluoro-1-(2-furyl)-1,3-butanedione (TFB), phen-1,10 -phenanthroline) and its hybrids via embedding pure complex into silica and PMMA. The sol-gel method was adopted for incorporating europium complex into silica matrix as [Eu-(L)3-phen]-silica and this method was proved to be highly effective and excellent approach for obtaining such lanthanide hybrid material. Another hybrid was prepared by incorporating complex into PMMA (polymethyl methyl acrylate), an organic polymer, transformed into flexible thin film. The structure of the [Eu-(L)3-phen] was elucidated using various spectroscopic techniques, moreover Sparkle model calculation were utilized for prediction of ground state geometry. The photophysical properties of pure complex [Eu-(L)3-phen] and its hybrids were studied in detail and compared. The incorporation of pure complex into PMMA is highly supportive to enhance the stability of complex as evident from enhanced luminescent intensity, intensity ratio value 6.52, longer lifetime value 842μs and higher quantum efficiency 77% over pure complex. The organic polymer PMMA is expected to interact well with europium complex via antenna effect. The use of such inorganic and organic entities for hybrid preparation purposefully overcomes the flaws of lanthanide complexes in terms of thermal stability and mechanical strength. The promising and fascinating properties of synthesized lanthanide hybrids are fruitful in material research. This study aims to examine the association between province-level socioeconomic welfare factors and depression symptoms among older adults in China. Province-level socioeconomic characteristics were merged with microdata for respondents over 65 years from the 2018 China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) Wave 4 (N = 6657). Principal component analysis (PCA) was used to extract three socioeconomic welfare factors constructed from 14 province-level variables. A Bayesian mixed-effects logistic model was applied to measure the association between the three socioeconomic welfare factors and depression symptoms while controlling for socio-demographic variables. The PCA showed that economic welfare, medical resource welfare, and social service welfare together explained 72.2 percent of the total variance of the 14 province-level variables. It was found that increasing economic welfare was significantly associated with a lower probability of depression symptoms (OR = 0.806, 95%CI [0.674, 0.967]), while medical facilities were associated with a higher probability of depression symptoms (OR = 1.181, 95%CI [1.029, 1.354]) among Chinese older adults. Uncertainty existed as to whether having access to social welfare (OR = 0.941, 95%CI [0.835, 1.060]) was associated with prevalence of depression. Thus, improved socioeconomic welfare systems for older adults (which possibly require an increase in spending) are necessary to contribute further to reduced depression risk in China. Policymakers should also improve the utilization of medical resources to mitigate the incidence of depression among the elderly in China.Identity transformation and stigma management have been widely acknowledged as significant factors in various drug-cessation pathways, such as self-change (SC) and treatment-change (TC). These processes involve the employment of symbolic boundaries within which people associate themselves with desired groups and/or distance themselves from less desirable ones. However, the relevance of the drug-cessation pathway to identity construction in an era of drug-use normalization has not yet been explored. The present study used thematic discourse analysis to compare the drug-cessation narrative and the reflected identity construction of 41 former drug users in Israel (25 SCs and 16 TCs). The findings revealed a shared trigger for drug cessation that was related to impaired functionality and a threat to their identity. However, the groups differed in other drug-cessation factors that served their identity-negotiation strategies. Disodium Cromoglycate The SCs negotiated stigma by distancing themselves from other drugs users, minimizing drug risk, and denying the need for drug treatment. In contrast, the TCs negotiated stigma by distancing themselves from their former user identities, embracing the disease model of drug use, and confirming the necessity of treatment. This identity construction reflects continuous framing of ideals of subjectivity, such as self-regulation, which policy makers and treatment stakeholders should consider in developing services and conveying substance-use policy messages.
Men who have sex with men (MSM) are disproportionately affected by HIV, substance use, and stigma related to co-existing or intersecting identities that are stigmatized or devalued by society (e.g., being a sexual minority male, a person living with HIV, or a person who uses substances). Evidence indicates that when stigma is internalized it may act as a barrier to engagement in self-care behaviors.
Gaining a better understanding of how intersecting internalized stigmas affect HIV self-care among MSM who use substances.
To investigate these relationships, we conducted semi-structured qualitative interviews until we reached thematic saturation (n=33) with HIV+MSM who use substances and were sub-optimally engaged in HIV care. Interviews inquired about identity, internalized stigmas, substance use, HIV self-care behaviors, and interrelationships between concepts.
Our sample was 61% African American and 76% reported annual incomes of ≤$20,000. Approximately half of the participants explicitly described how intersecting internalized stigmas impacted their sense of self and their behavior.
