The global status of dioxin emissions across 150 countries/regions were compiled in this study. China, the major emitter of dioxin and the largest developing country, was chosen as an example to illustrate its emission reductions. The global dioxin emissions were about 97.0 kg TEQ/year, Asia and Africa emitted the most dioxins among the continents. Globally, open burning processes were the most important sources of dioxins. Dioxin emissions in developed countries have remained at low and stable level, while those in developing countries have remained at relatively high level or have continued to increase in recent years. It can be speculated that the global dioxin emissions will increase first and then decrease in the future. Chinese dioxin emissions were stable around 9 kg toxic equivalent (TEQ) in recent years, while 17 subcategories are the key sources of dioxin control in the future. Moreover, according to analysis toward China's dioxin emission trend and sources, there is a large space for dioxins reduction in industries such as metal production, waste incineration and disposal. ALK inhibitor The results indicated that there is at least 30-70% of reduction scope in China based on three scenarios, and this will reduce the world's annual dioxin emissions by 2.7-6.8%.Photocatalysis has been regarded as a sustainable strategy for wastewaters remediation, and sulfite addition could significantly accelerate the photocatalytic performances. However, the related mechanisms are still not well understood. Here, we for the first time found that plasmonic Bi and oxygen vacancies were in-operando generated on BiOX (X = Cl, Br, I) in the presence of sulfite under light irradiation. The oxidative degradation rate constants of 4-nitrophenol, bisphenol A, and phenol were improved by about 11.5, 4.7, and 12.2 times on BiOBr and 9.1, 1.6, and 3.1 times on BiOCl with addition of 5 mM sulfite, while the photocatalytic reduction rate of 4-nitrophenol to 4-aminophenol was promoted by approximate 31.7 times on BiOI. The results indicated that sulfite could improve the photooxidation ability of BiOBr and BiOCl and the photoreduction performance of BiOI, resulted from the improved light absorption and separation of photogenerated charge carriers. This work can provide exploratory platforms for understanding and maximizing the sulfite-assisted BiOX photocatalysis. The pollution of aquatic environments by microplastics and herbicides has become a global concern. This study was focused on imazamox, imazapic, and imazethapyr sorption to polypropylene microplastics in water. And the potential effects of microplastics on herbicide enantiomer degradation and distributions in water, sediment, and water-sediment microcosms were investigated. Adsorption experiment results indicated that herbicide sorption to microplastics involved both chemisorption and physical adsorption. Degradation experiment results indicated that microplastics could markedly increase herbicide persistence in water and sediment. Marked stereoselective degradation was not found for the three herbicides in water and sediment, but stereoselective degradation of imazapic in water containing microplastics was found. The water-sediment microcosms experiment results indicated that microplastics have significant effect on stereoselectivity degradation and distribution in water and water-sediment microcosms for imazapic, and have little effect on stereoselectivity behaviors of imazamox and imazethapyr in water-sediment systems. Furthermore, the microcosm experiment results also indicated that herbicides can partition between water and microplastics and that microplastics could affect herbicide persistence and distributions in aquatic environments. The present study provides new insights into the fate of chiral pollutants in aquatic environments containing microplastics, and contributes to understanding behaviors of herbicides and microplastics in aquatic environments. As one kind of important disinfectant and reactive oxygen species (ROS), hypochlorite (ClO-), plays vital roles in both water treatment and cell homeostasis. In this work, by decorating a series of groups with different electron donating and withdrawing properties on tetraphenylethene (TPE), four aggregation-induced emission (AIE)-based fluorescent probes containing C˭C double bonds as the potential reaction sites named Probe A, B, C and D were constructed, and their sensing performance for ClO- was systematically studied. The results showed that the substituents can not only effectively tune the photophysical properties of the probes, but also make a significant impact on their sensing performance for ClO-. Combined with the theoretical calculation results, it can be inferred that the reactivity of the probes for ClO- can be greatly enhanced with the increase of electron cloud density on the C˭C double bonds by the introduction of strong electron-donating group (EDG) and electron-withdrawing group (EWG) adjacent to the double bonds. Finally, the best performing Probe D was selected and then successfully applied to ClO- detection in real water samples and live cell imaging. The female skeleton undergoes significant material and ultrastructural changes to meet high calcium demands during reproduction and lactation. Through the peri-lacunar/canalicular remodeling (PLR), osteocytes actively resorb surrounding matrix and enlarge their lacunae and canaliculi during lactation, which are quickly reversed after weaning. How these changes alter the physicochemical environment of osteocytes, the most abundant and primary mechanosensing cells in bone, are not well understood. In this study, we developed a multiscale poroelastic modeling technique to investigate lactation-induced changes in stress, fluid pressurization, fluid flow, and solute transport across multiple length scales (whole bone, porous midshaft cortex, lacunar-canalicular pore system (LCS), and pericellular matrix (PCM) around osteocytes) in murine tibiae subjected to axial compression at 3 N peak load (~320 με) at 0.5, 2, or 4 Hz. Based on previously reported skeletal anatomical measurements from lactating and nulliparous mice, our models demonstrated that loading frequency, LCS porosity, and PCM density were major determinants of fluid and solute flows responsible for osteocyte mechanosensing, cell-cell signaling, and metabolism.
