Transgender people face known barriers to accessing mental health care generally, and gender-affirming care in particular. However, little research has been done to evaluate the impact of systemic racism on access to gender-affirming mental health care (GAMHC) among transgender people of color (TPOC).
We conducted a cross-sectional, secondary analysis of data on 20,967 respondents to the 2015 United States Transgender Survey who reported a desire for GAMHC services related to their gender transition. We estimated inequities across ethnoracial groups in access to GAMHC, and measured the association between severe psychological distress and access to GAMHC among TPOC.
We found decreased access to GAMHC across all TPOC groups. Inequities in access to GAMHC were most severe among assigned male at birth respondents in the Black/African-American group (aOR 0.51, 95% CI 0.37-0.71), Latino/a/e/Hispanic group (aOR 0.52, 95% CI 0.42-0.65), and Native American group (aOR 0.59, 95% CI 0.38-0.94). Among all respondents, severe psychological distress was highest among Native American respondents (47.4%), Latino/a/e/Hispanic (47.1%) respondents, and other/multiracial respondents (46.7%) and lowest among whites (39.9%). Further, among all TPOC, access to GAMHC was associated with decreased odds of severe psychological distress (aOR 0.74, 95% CI 0.62-0.87).
These results illustrate the need for research that explicitly addresses the intersectional experiences of transgender communities, and the structural drivers of inequities in access to gender-affirming care.
These results illustrate the need for research that explicitly addresses the intersectional experiences of transgender communities, and the structural drivers of inequities in access to gender-affirming care.This study developed a quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged, and safe (QuEChERS) procedure for determining seven pyrethroid pesticide residues in tea, cucumber, and tomato via high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS). The overall average recoveries of the seven pyrethroids were 72%-104% (relative standard deviation (RSD); 2.0%-16.1%, 89%-109% (RSD; 0.7%-17.3%), 82%-110% (RSD; 1.6%-17.1%) for tea, cucumber and tomato, respectively. The determination coefficient (R2), the limit of detection (LOD), and the limit of quantification (LOQ) were ≥ 0.99, 0.007-1.875 μg kg-1, and 0.025-6.250 μg kg-1, respectively. The method was successfully used to monitor the pyrethroid pesticide residues in market samples. The effect of LTTD on soil properties was investigated, and the bioaccumulation of total mercury (THg) and methylmercury (MeHg) in rice (Oryza sativa L.) were researched via a pot experiment. Results indicated that the physicochemical properties and fertility of the soil after LTTD still meet the requirements of rice growth. Moreover, the concentrations of THg and MeHg in the remediated soil were decreased by 94.1% and 98.8%, respectively. Further, the bioavailability of Hg in soil was significantly reduced. More importantly, the concentrations of THg and MeHg in the seed of rice plant cultivated on the remediated soil were decreased by 57.6% and 80.2%, respectively. These illnesses, such as various forms of cancer, are often associated with poor prognoses, prompting the need for more comprehensive characterization of the glycoproteome. While innovative instrumental and computational strategies have largely benefited glycoproteomic analyses, less attention is given to benefits gained through alternative, optimized chromatographic techniques. Porous graphitic carbon (PGC) chromatography has gained considerable interest in glycomics research due to its mobile phase flexibility, increased retention of polar analytes, and improved structural elucidation at higher temperatures. PGC has yet to be systematically compared against or in tandem with standard reversed phase liquid chromatography (RPLC) in high-throughput bottom-up glycoproteomic experiments, leaving the potential benefits unexplored. Performing comparative analysis of single and biphasic separation regimes at a range of column temperatures illustrates complementary advantages for each method. PGC separation is shown to selectively retain shorter, more hydrophilic glycopeptide species, imparting higher average charge, and exhibiting greater microheterogeneity coverage for identified glycosites. Additionally, we demonstrate that liquid-phase separation of glycopeptide isomers may be achieved through both single and biphasic PGC separations, providing a means towards facile, multidimensional glycopeptide characterization. One opportunity presented by the resulting meta-analysis maps (MAMs) is as a reference for better understanding the nature of individual contrast maps (ICMs) derived from specific task fMRI data. Here, we compared MAMs from 148 neuroimaging studies representing emotion categories of fear, anger, disgust, happiness and sadness with ICMs from fearful > neutral and angry > neutral faces from an independent dataset of task fMRI (n = 1263). Analyses revealed that both fear and anger ICMs exhibited the greatest pattern similarity to fear MAMs. As the number of voxels included for the computation of pattern similarity became more selective, the specificity of MAM-ICM correspondence decreased. Notably, amygdala activity long considered critical for processing threat-related facial expressions was neither sufficient nor necessary for detecting MAM-ICM pattern similarity effects. Our analyses suggest that both fearful and angry facial expressions are best captured by distributed patterns of brain activity, a putative neural correlate of threat. The transition to siblinghood is a topic that is rife with opportunity for social work researchers, who have the ability to study this transition from culturally sensitive, person-in-environment, and social justice perspectives. This article provides an overview of the elements and importance of the transition to siblinghood, introduces a theoretical framework relevant to social workers, reviews existent empirical work on the transition to siblinghood, and elucidates limitations in the literature that social work researchers are adept to address. The article concludes with four recommendations to researchers who are interested in studying the transition to siblinghood through a social work lens.
Depletion of CD4+ T-cells in the gut-associated lymphoid tissue is the hallmark of HIV infection, with only partial restoration by potent antiretroviral therapy (ART). Gut dysbiosis, together with disruption of mucosal integrity contributes to chronic immune activation that further exacerbates the disease. Data from randomized controlled trials in pediatric HIV patients have indicated potential of probiotics in complementing routine ART in managing HIV-associated gastrointestinal complications. We have systematically extracted data from these trials and performed meta-analysis to quantify the effect of probiotics on CD4+ T-cell counts and any adverse events associated with their supplementation.
