Students' perceptions have significantly improved on the EM physicians, and their job after attending the clerkship (
<0.001). They found EM a respected (
=0.038), flexible (
<0.001), secure (p<0.001), satisfying, and prestigious (
=0.006) job. They found EM physicians compassionate (
<0.011), have adequate patient contact (
<0.045) and control on their time (0.004). Choosing EM as a future career has significantly increased after clerkship (p<0.001).
Our mandatory EM clerkship significantly improved students' perceptions on EM specialty as a future career choice. A well-structured and mandatory EM clerkship can attract more students to be trained in the EM.

Although low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) are beginning to integrate emergency medicine (EM) specialist physicians into their healthcare systems, they must often send these trainees to other countries with established registrar programmes. Given that retention of foreign-trained EM specialist physicians is low following repatriation, there is interest in understanding their expectations and intentions when they return. This study aimed to describe the expectations of Zambia's EM registrars regarding the development of various aspects of emergency care in Zambia.
In this qualitative, descriptive study, individual telephonic interviews were conducted with current Zambian EM registrars using a semi-structured interview schedule. Recorded interviews were transcribed verbatim, validated by participants, and subjected to inductive content analysis.
Four interviews were completed, representing the entire population of interest. Two key categories emerged from these discussions that the state of emergen specialists and government stakeholders, to ensure that there are mechanisms in place to facilitate dissemination.
Zambian EM registrars characterised the nascent emergency care system by challenges that are common in many LMICs and align with previous in-country assessments of emergency care. In order to ensure that registrars' strategies are ultimately implemented upon their return to Zambia, it is imperative they are communicated with stakeholders in-country. From there, mutual planning can occur between future EM specialists and government stakeholders, to ensure that there are mechanisms in place to facilitate dissemination.Exploring youth and young adult's agency may be a way to increase HIV testing and help end the HIV epidemic. We used data from the National Survey of Teens and Young Adults (15-24) on HIV/AIDS (N = 1,437). Data were collected from September 21-October 1, 2012. The sample included 748 girls and 689 boys; and the mean age is 20 years (SD 3.02). Youth and young adults completed a 40-question survey on attitudes and knowledge about HIV. Using a multivariable logistic regression analysis, study findings suggest that focusing on protective health behaviors like the role youth can play in ending the epidemic and hearing about an AIDS-free generation were both associated with an increase in HIV testing. Itacitinib Our study finds that enhancing the role and influence of personal agency can inform HIV prevention and intervention programs that are specific to youth. The United States' initiative to End the HIV Epidemic by 2030 includes a primary goal to reduce new HIV infections by 90 percent. One key contributor to this plan is HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). While knowledge and acceptance of PrEP among clinicians is growing, few studies have assessed knowledge and awareness among future healthcare professionals in academic training programs. The present study aimed to assess and compare healthcare trainees' awareness, knowledge, and familiarity with PrEP prescribing guidelines to better understand and prevent gaps in academic training regarding PrEP. A cross-sectional web-based survey of medical, nurse practitioner, and pharmacy students enrolled at two universities was conducted between October 2017 and January 2018. The study assessed participants' awareness, knowledge, and familiarity with PrEP prescribing guidelines and willingness to prescribe PrEP and refer to another healthcare provider. The survey was completed by 744 participants (response rate = 36.2%). Overall, PrEP awareness was high though PrEP knowledge was low. There were significant differences among student groups in domains of interest. Pharmacy students had the greatest PrEP knowledge, awareness, and familiarity with prescribing guidelines. However, medical students reported the greatest comfort with performing PrEP-related clinical activities and willingness to refer a candidate to another provider. Study findings enhance our understanding of healthcare professional students' perspectives of PrEP as a biomedical prevention strategy for HIV. The gaps in students' knowledge offer opportunities for the development of educational strategies to support HIV prevention among future healthcare professionals.Diaper need is a form of material hardship that acutely affects families with young children, is not currently addressed by US antipoverty programs, and has received little public or scientific attention. This study examined the association between diaper need and risk for food insecurity in a statewide sample of participants in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC). Families enrolled in Vermont WIC in August 2019 were invited to an online survey that included questions related to diaper need and food need. Pearson's Chi-square tests were used to examine the association between diaper need and risk for food insecurity measured by the Hunger Vital Sign Tool, and the associations between diaper need and other household factors. Follow-up questions asked those with diaper need what they do when they run out of diapers and those without diaper need how they access enough diapers. Responses to these questions were tabulated. Complete data were available for 501 households.
