The aim is to prospectively evaluate the impact of a multidisciplinary lymphoma virtual tumor board. The utility of multi-site interactive lymphoma-specific tumor boards has not been reported. The Mayo Clinic Lymphoma Tumor Board is a component of the International Mayo Clinic Care Network (MCCN). The format includes the clinical case presentation, presentation of radiology and hematopathology findings by the appropriate subspecialist, proposed treatment options, review of the literature pertinent to the case, pharmacy contributions, and discussion followed by recommendations. Three hundred and nine consecutive highly selected real-time cases with a diagnosis of lymphoma were presented at the Mayo Clinic Lymphoma Tumor Board from January 2014 to June 2018 and decisions were prospectively tracked to assess its impact on the treatment decisions. A total of 309 cases were prospectively evaluated. One hundred and forty (45.3%) cases had some changes made or recommended. The total changes suggested were 179, as some cases had more than one recommendation. There were 93 (30%) clinical management recommendations, 45 (14.6%) additional testing recommendations, 29 (9.4%) pathology changes, and 6 (1.9%) radiology changes. In an electronic evaluation process, 93% of the responders reported an improvement in knowledge and competence, and 100% recommended no change in format of the board. A multidisciplinary lymphoma tumor board approach was found to have a meaningful impact on lymphoma patients while enhancing interdisciplinary interactions and education for multiple levels of the clinical care team.
This study was performed to explore the effects of ligation of the intersphincteric fistula tract (LIFT) on pain scores and serum levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and interleukin (IL)-2 in patients with simple anal fistulas.

Ninety patients with simple anal fistulas were evenly randomized into a study group (treated with LIFT) and a control group (treated with traditional anal fistulectomy) according to a random number table. The surgical outcomes, basic operation conditions (operation time, hospital stay, and anal continence), and postoperative wound healing rates were compared between the two groups.

The study group had significantly better operation conditions (better anal continence and shorter length of hospital stay), a higher postoperative wound healing rate, lower pain scores, higher VEGF and IL-2 levels, and higher overall efficacy rate than the control group. However, the incidence of postoperative complications was not significantly different between the two groups.

Patients who underwent LIFT had better surgical outcomes, higher wound healing rates, better anal continence, a shorter length of hospital stay, and less severe postoperative pain than those who underwent simple anal fistulectomy. Increased levels of VEGF and IL-2 after surgery may promote wound healing.

Glasdegib plus LDAC is indicated for patients in whom therapy options are limited, e.g. older patients and those ineligible for intensive chemotherapy due to preexisting comorbidities. This review summarizes the recommendations of a panel of hemato-oncologists regarding the selection of patients best suited for treatment with glasdegib plus LDAC and the management during therapy with this combination. The panel considered the impact of concomitant medications and comorbidities during treatment with glasdegib plus LDAC, and discussed common adverse events (AEs) associated with glasdegib plus LDAC. Management strategies for AEs discussed by the panel included dose modifications, supportive care therapies, and prophylactic treatments. Finally, the panel highlighted the importance of patient communication and education regarding the possible AEs that may occur during treatment.Hepatitis C virus-associated immune thrombocytopenia (HCV-ITP) has been assumed to be one of secondary ITP and associated with antiplatelet antibodies. This study was to clarify the antibody profile in HCV-ITP compared with primary ITP. We enrolled 55 HCV-ITP, 30 primary ITP, 11 Helicobacter pylori-ITP, 21 HCV control, and 16 healthy volunteers. We reviewed their blood cell counts, autoimmune markers, and spleen size. We used enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kit to detect the specific antibody to glycoproteins IIb/IIIa, Ia/IIa, Ib/IX, IV, and human leukocyte antigen (HLA) class I. Compared with primary ITP patients, HCV-ITP patients had an older age, lower white blood cell (WBC) count and fewer presented with severe thrombocytopenia. read more The rate of positive antibody detection was 63.6% for the HCV-ITP group higher than the rate of 40% for the primary ITP. In the HCV control, antiplatelet antibodies were detected in 38.1% patients and no one had more than two types of antibodies. The antiplatelet antibodies correlated to severer thrombocytopenia. An HLA class I antibody was associated with lower WBCs and larger spleen. In conclusion, HCV-ITP patients had a high rate of positive antiplatelet antibody. The antibodies were associated with not only lower platelets but also leukopenia and splenomegaly.
Liraglutide (Lir) protects cardiomyocytes against high glucose-induced myocardial damage. This study investigated whether Notch signaling participated in the antiapoptotic effects of Lir on rat H9c2 cardiomyocytes subjected to hypoxia followed by reoxygenation (H/R).

We used H9c2 rat cardiomyocytes as a model of H/R and measured viability, apoptosis, and expression of the apoptotic genes Bax and Bcl-2 and Notch signaling genes Notch1 and Jagged1. Notch1 was depleted by siRNA to test the effect of Notch1 deficiency on the antiapoptotic effects of Lir on H/R-treated H9c2 cardiomyocytes.

After H/R treatment, viability was significantly decreased, and the apoptosis rate was greater in the H/R group than in the control (CT). Lir at 50, 100, and 200 nM significantly increased viability and decreased apoptosis in H/R-treated H9c2 cells. Treatment with 50 nM Lir for 2 hours before H/R significantly increased the expression levels of Notch1, Jagged1, and Bcl-2 compared with the CT levels. Bax was downregulated, which indicated that Lir activated Notch signaling and inhibited apoptosis.
