Participants exhibited high levels of cell phone use and experienced biological, behavioral, and sleep problems. They also had very little knowledge about specific SAR values, an important criterion concerning cell phones.

People with epilepsy frequently complain of poor memory.
To assess the occurrence of memory complaints in older adults with epilepsy (OAE) and whether it is associated with clinical variables, objective cognitive performance, and quality of life (QoL).
The Memory Complaint Questionnaire (MAC-Q) was related to objective cognitive performance, the Neurological Disorders Depression Inventory for Epilepsy (NDDI-E), the Quality of Life in Epilepsy Inventory (QOLIE-31), and the clinical characteristics of 83 OAE.
OAE showed worse cognitive performance and higher MAC-Q scores when compared to a similar control group (n=40). Impairment in multiple cognitive domains occurred in 34 (41%) OAE and was associated with older age and lower educational level. Memory complaints (MAC-Q≥25) were reported by 45 (54.2%) OAE and associated with older age, lower educational level, onset at ≥60 years, higher NDDI-E scores, lower QOLIE-31 scores, and impairment in multiple cognitive domains.
OAE presented worse cognitive performance and greater memory complaints. Episode onset at ≥60 years of age was associated with complaints, but not with objective cognitive deficit. We found an association between subjective and objective cognitive performance, with aspects of epilepsy and worse QoL scores.

Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a neurodegenerative disease of lower motor neurons associated with frequent occurrence of spinal deformity. Nusinersen is an antisense oligonucleotide that increases SMN protein level and is administrated by frequent intrathecal lumbar injections. Thus, spinal deformities and previous spinal surgery are important challenges for drug delivery in SMA.
To report imaging methods used for Nusinersen injection in SMA patients.
Nusinersen injection procedures in SMA types 2 and 3 patients who had previous spinal surgery were analyzed retrospectively to describe the imaging and puncture procedures, as well as the occurrence of complications.
Nine SMA patients (14 to 50 years old) underwent 57 lumbar punctures for nusinersen injection. Six patients had no interlaminar space available; in five of them, a transforaminal approach was used, and another one underwent a surgery to open a posterior bone window for the injections. Transforaminal puncture was performed using CT scan in three cases and fluoroscopy in the other two, with a similar success rate. One patient in the transforaminal group had post-procedure radiculitis, and another one had vagal reaction (hypotension). In three cases, with preserved interlaminar space, injections were performed by posterior interlaminar puncture, and only one adverse event was reported (post-puncture headache).
In SMA patients with previous spinal surgery, the use of imaging-guided intervention is necessary for administering intrathecal nusinersen. Transforaminal technique is indicated in patients for whom the interlaminar space is not available, and injections should always be guided by either CT or fluoroscopy.

The Brazilian Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis (BCTRIMS) has launched an initiative to determine the prevalence of multiple sclerosis (MS) in Brazil, based on key cities deemed representative of their regions in terms of demographic and environmental features.
To investigate the prevalence rate of MS in Joinville.
We reviewed the medical records of all patients who lived in Joinville and met the 2010 McDonald's diagnostic criteria revised for MS on the prevalence day (March 11, 2016). Potential MS patients included individuals treated by all practicing neurologists in the city and the ones found in patients' association and the database of the Municipal Department of Health. Advertisements about the survey were also broadcast on radio and television. Patients who were not living in Joinville on the prevalence day were excluded. All potential MS patients were invited to an in-person diagnostic review, carried out by a panel of experienced neurologists with special expertise in Msed risk of MS associated with latitude gradient and European ancestry. Metformin supplier Prevalence studies in other cities from Southern Brazil with no significant internal migration and taking part in this broad project may clarify this issue.
Parkinson's disease (PD) produces autonomic changes, indicating lower parasympathetic modulation and global variability, but these changes need further studying regarding geometric methods.
To investigate the autonomic modulation in individuals with PD using heart rate variability (HRV) indices obtained through geometric methods.
This is a cross-sectional study that assessed 50 individuals, split into two groups PD group (PDG; n=26; 75.36±5.21 years) and control group (CG; n=24; 75.36±5.21 years). We evaluated the autonomic modulation by measuring the heart rate beat-to-beat for 30 min with the individual in supine rest using a heart rate monitor and assessed geometric indices (RRtri, TINN, SD1, SD2, SD1/SD2 ratio, and qualitative analysis of the Poincaré plot).
Significant reductions were found in RRtri, TINN, SD1, and SD2 indices among PDG compared to CG. Regarding the SD1/SD2 ratio, no significant changes were detected between the groups. The Poincaré plot demonstrated that individuals with PD had lower beat-to-beat dispersion in RR intervals, in addition to greater long-term dispersion of RR intervals compared to CG.
