The transition period of dairy cattle is characterized by a number of metabolic, endocrine, physiologic, and immune adaptations, including the occurrence of negative energy balance, hypocalcemia, liver dysfunction, overt systemic inflammatory response, and oxidative stress status. The degree and length of time during which these systems remain out of balance could render cows more susceptible to disease, poor reproductive outcomes, and less efficient for milk production and quality. Studies on both monogastrics and ruminants have reported the health benefits of nutraceuticals (e.g. probiotics, prebiotics, dietary lipids, functional peptides, phytoextracts) beyond nutritional value, interacting at different levels of the animal's physiology. From a physiological standpoint, it seems unrealistic to disregard any systemic inflammatory processes. However, an alternate approach is to modulate the inflammatory process per se and to resolve the systemic response as quickly as possible. To this aim, a growing body oftimulating, rumen fermentation, and microbial modulation effects. The objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on patient satisfaction and surgical outcomes at King Khalid University Hospital in Saudi Arabia.
The COVID-19 pandemic has greatly affected health care systems across developing and developed countries. Therefore, it is important to understand its impact on various parameters of patient care as regards revised infrastructure and policies in hospitals during the pandemic.
It is a retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted from 13-3-2020 to 26-4-2020at King Khalid University Hospital in Saudi Arabia. Patient satisfaction and surgical outcomes were the main outcome measures.
331 participants were included in the study (median age 53 years; 70% female), and 223 completed the patient's satisfaction survey. 260 of the surgeries were non-oncolog cases (78.6%) compared to 71 oncology cases (21.4%). With respect to the surgical outcomes, 12% of the patients required admission to the ICU, and 10.9% developed postoperative coomplications with overall good surgical outcomes. That indicates that all the actions and policies that were implemented during the pandemic were proven beneficial for the patients. It is recommended to continue those measures until the COVID-19 pandemic is over.
Non-invasive venous waveform analysis (NIVA) is a recently described, novel technique to assess intravascular volume status. Waveforms are captured with a piezoelectric sensor; analysis in the frequency domain allows for calculation of a "NIVA value" that represents volume status. The aim of this report was to determine the effects of vasoactive agents on the venous waveform and calculated NIVA values.

A piezoelectric sensor was secured over the surgically exposed saphenous vein in eight anesthetized pigs.
NIVA value, pulmonary capillary wedge pressure (PCWP), and mean arterial pressure prior to and post intravenous administration of 150-180 µg of phenylephrine or 100 µg of sodium nitroprusside.
Phenylephrine led to a decrease in NIVA value (mean 9.2 vs. 4.6,
< 0.05), while sodium nitroprusside led to an increase in NIVA value (mean 9.5 vs. 11.9,
< 0.05). Mean arterial pressure increased after phenylephrine (
< 0.05) and decreased after sodium nitroprusside (
< 0.05). PCWP did not change significantly after phenylephrine (
= 0.25) or sodium nitroprusside (
= 0.06).
Vasoactive agents lead to changes in non-invasively obtained venous waveforms in euvolemic pigs, highlighting a potential limitation in the ability to NIVA to estimate static volume in this setting. Further studies are indicated to understand the effects of vasoactive agents in the setting of hypovolemia and hypervolemia.

However, when nonlinearity is introduced, many intriguing questions arise. For example, are there universal fingerprints of the underlying topology when modes are coupled by nonlinearity, and what can happen to topological invariants during nonlinear propagation? To explore these questions, we experimentally demonstrate nonlinearity-induced coupling of light into topologically protected edge states using a photonic platform and develop a general theoretical framework for interpreting the mode-coupling dynamics in nonlinear topological systems. check details Performed on laser-written photonic Su-Schrieffer-Heeger lattices, our experiments show the nonlinear coupling of light into a nontrivial edge or interface defect channel that is otherwise not permissible due to topological protection. Our theory explains all the observations well. Furthermore, we introduce the concepts of inherited and emergent nonlinear topological phenomena as well as a protocol capable of revealing the interplay of nonlinearity and topology. These concepts are applicable to other nonlinear topological systems, both in higher dimensions and beyond our photonic platform.
