Pay attention to the larger keys, such as the space bar and enter keys when you attach the cap. They are joined to a bar of metal which can be damaged if you're not careful. After you've reattached all the keys back onto the keyboard, test the keys by pressing them down. You should hear a click and feel the key moving normally when it's reattached properly. If not it, you might have to try reattaching the cap and again or take it to an expert.

Before doing anything, make sure to close your computer and unplug it if needed. It is essential to keep yourself grounded as well since the last thing you would want to do is to damage electronic components by static electricity.

Begin by wiping the entire key and its surroundings using an unlinty cloth that you've thoroughly wrung to prevent getting any moisture in between the keys. Use an easy cleaning solution since stronger cleaners may cause damage to the plastic.

Then you can use a cotton swab soaked in isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) to clean the edge of the key and the area around it. Be sure to avoid getting any alcohol on the printing as it could cause discoloration or even smudge the lettering off your keys.

You can also use an electronics cleaning brush from an ordinary store to remove stubborn dirt and debris.
