Biomechanical as well as physiological considerations for double plating of distal femur bone injuries: an organized materials review.
Sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) have attracted incremental attention as a promising candidate for grid-scale energy-storage applications. To meet practical requirements, searching for new cathode materials with high energy density is of great importance. Herein, a novel Na superionic conductor (NASICON)-type Na4 MnCr(PO4 )3 is developed as a high-energy cathode for SIBs. The Na4 MnCr(PO4 )3 nanoparticles homogeneously embedded in a carbon matrix can present an extraordinary reversible capacity of 160.5 mA h g-1 with three-electron reaction at ≈3.53 V during the Na+ extraction/insertion process, realizing an unprecedentedly high energy density of 566.5 Wh kg-1 in the phosphate cathodes for SIBs. It is intriguing to reveal the underlying mechanism of the unique Mn2+ /Mn3+ , Mn3+ /Mn4+ , and Cr3+ /Cr4+ redox couples via X-ray absorption near-edge structure spectroscopy. The whole electrochemical reaction undergoes highly reversible single-phase and biphasic transitions with a moderate volume change of 7.7% through in situ X-ray diffraction and ex situ high-energy synchrotron X-ray diffraction. Combining density functional theory (DFT) calculations with the galvanostatic intermittent titration technique, the superior performance is ascribed to the low ionic-migration energy barrier and desirable Na-ion diffusion kinetics. The present work can offer a new insight into the design of multielectron-reaction cathode materials for SIBs. © 2020 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim.Endovascular therapy, an established first-line treatment for isolated iliac artery (IA) occlusion (IAO), may be of limited use in challenging lesions. We describe a novel percutaneous endoluminal anatomical bypass (PEApass) technique for uncrossable external IA (EIA) occlusion. A 70-year-old man on hemodialysis with a history of colostomy presented with chronic limb-threatening ischemia due to a left EIA with below-the-knee occlusions. During a previous colostomy, the left EIA was accidentally ligated. Conventional endovascular recanalization for the ligated EIA failed, and a femoral-femoral bypass and below-knee angioplasty were performed as alternative therapy. Two weeks later, surgical site infection developed at both anastomosis sites. PEApass was performed prior to removing the infected graft. An arteriovenous fistula (AVF) in the distal location was created using a re-entry device, and its proximal location was created using a 0.014-in. penetration guidewire, which was snared on the inside of the iliac vein (IV) using a retrograde snare. The proximal and distal sections of the IA were connected using an 8.0-mm × 100-mm stent graft implanted through the IV. A final angiogram indicated that flow to the occluded IA was completely restored without complications. Following the PEApass, the infected graft was removed. Complete wound healing was achieved within approximately 1 month. This innovative PEApass procedure is feasible and could be an alternative procedure for patients with uncrossable IAO. © 2020 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.Liver transplantation is the procedure of choice for patients with end-stage liver disease. Ideally, liver grafts are retrieved from brain-dead donors; however, in countries facing donor scarcity, living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) has been widely developed and accepted. This implies the use of partial grafts, with possible anatomical variations leading to anastomosis of multiple small vessels and/or bile ducts. This article is protected by copyright. The Health Improvement Profile (HIP) is a one-page form developed in the United Kingdom as a tool for mental health nurses to assess service user's physical health needs. The HIP screens service users' physical health and provides recommendations that clinicians can provide service users with in order to improve their physical health. There was evidence supporting the effectiveness of the HIP; however, the majority of HIP studies to date involve the screening tool being completed by nurses. In Australia, a large proportion of mental health clinicians providing case management to service users in community settings are not nurses. WHAT THE PAPER ADDS TO EXISTING KNOWLEDGE? This paper shows that the HIP can be adjusted to suit the needs of Australian service users and can be utilized by clinicians from a variety of disciplines. It also shows that both clinicians and Australian service users find the HIP helpful and argues for it being made available for all service users. It has clsers were surveyed on their experience of the HIP. Results The community team completed the HIP with 34 (15%) service users. The inpatient unit completed the HIP with 137 (54%) service users. Results from the HIP clearly show priority areas for health interventions. Feedback from clinicians and service users was predominately positive. Discussion We found the HIP to be an acceptable screening tool that encompasses multiple lifestyle risk factors. Implications for practice This study clearly demonstrates the utility of the HIP as a workable and acceptable screening tool with real world applicability. In our pilot, for example, we identified the need for the promotion of influenza vaccinations amongst service users, as well as the ongoing need to target smoking cessation and substance use. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.AIMS Following chemotherapy, induration may occur. This study was conducted to survey induration incidence and risk factors, and investigation for actual condition of induration. METHODS A cohort study was conducted for survey of incidence and risk factors, and a cross-sectional observation study was conducted to examine actual condition of induration. The sites of chemotherapy administration were recorded, and these were observed on the next treatment day. Clinical nurses judged the presence or absence of induration by palpation. The sites were observed using ultrasonography. To investigate the risk factors associated with the induration, logistic regression analysis was performed using independent variables based on univariate analysis or previous reports. RESULTS In total, 69 patients were analyzed. Selleckchem SP 600125 negative control The induration incidence was 17.4%, and three abnormal conditions were confirmed subcutaneous edema, thrombosis, and thickening of the vessel wall. Breast cancer, non-vesicant drug, vein diameter, and fosaprepitant use were included in the logistic regression model.
