lation in liver cancers. The lack of cytopathologists delays the advancement of screening for endometrial cancer. It was urgent to develop a new dye for rapid diagnosis. Our study aimed to synthesize a targeted folate receptor-α near-infrared (NIR) fluorescent agent, folic acid-zwitterionic NIR fluorophore (ZW-FA), and explore the feasibility for screening of endometrial cancer and precancerous change. Mitoquinone mouse Folic acid was conjugated with zwitterionic NIR fluorophore. The preparation of ZW-FA was validated by 1H NMR, mass spectrometric, ultraviolet spectra and fluorescence spectra. ZW-FA was incubated with endometrial cytology samples obtained from patients who underwent dilation and curettage or total hysterectomy. Diagnostic utility was calculated by applying laser confocal microscope, Image-J and statistical models, such as enumeration, receiver operating characteristic curve, logistic regression, support vector machine and decision tree were used. The purity of ZW-FA was > 95% determined by 1H NMR. ZW-FA had the strongest absorption peak at 633 nm in ultraviolet spectra. Photostability of ZW-FA was over 8 hours. In clinical validation, a total of 92 patients were enrolled. The cut-off value of ZW-FA was 49 in enumeration, which was used to distinguish the type of samples. Indicators about diagnostic utility are as follows sensitivity 90.77%, specificity 62.96%, false-positive rate 37.04%, false-negative rate 9.23%, positive predictive value 85.51% and negative predictive value 73.91%. The samples processed by ZW-FA did not affect further Hematoxylin-Eosin staining and pathological diagnosis. It was an effective cytologic strategy for in vitro diagnosis of endometrial cancer and precancerous change by using ZW-FA.

Cancer stroma contains the neural compartment with specific components and action. Neural microenvironment processing includes among others axonogenesis, perineural invasion (PNI), neurosignaling, and tumor cell neural/neuroendocrine differentiation. Growing data suggest that tumor-neural crosstalk plays an important function in prostate cancer (PCa) biology. However, the mechanisms involved in PNI and axonogenesis, as well as their patho-clinical correlations in this tumor are unclear.

The present study was carried out on FFPE samples of 73 PCa and 15 benign prostate (BP) cases. Immunohistochemistry with neural markers PGP9.5, TH, and NFP was performed on constructed TMAs and selected tissue sections. The analyzed parameters of tumor innervation included small nerve density (ND) measured on pan-neural marker (PGP9.5) and TH s4tained slides, as well assessment of PNI presence and morphology. The qualitative and topographic aspects were studied. In addition, the expression of neuroendocrine marker chromogrral and adrenergic) in the surroundings and the invasive front. ND and PNI interrelated with NPY expression, neuroendocrine differentiation, and ERG status. The above findings support new evidence for the presence of autocrine and paracrine interactions in prostate cancer neural microenvironment.
The analysis showed an irregular axonal network in prostate cancer with higher neural density (panneural and adrenergic) in the surroundings and the invasive front. ND and PNI interrelated with NPY expression, neuroendocrine differentiation, and ERG status. The above findings support new evidence for the presence of autocrine and paracrine interactions in prostate cancer neural microenvironment.
Treating perihilar cholangiocarcinoma (PHCC) is particularly difficult due to the fact that it is usually in an advanced stage at the time of diagnosis. Irreversible electroporation treatment (IRE) involves the local administration of a high-voltage electric current to target lesions without causing damage to surrounding structures. This study investigated the safety and efficacy of using IRE in conjunction with intraoperative biliary stent placement in cases of unresectable PHCC.

This study enrolled 17 patients with unresectable Bismuth type III/IV PHCC who underwent IRE in conjunction with intraoperative biliary stent placement (laparotomic) in two medical centers in Asia between June 2015 and July 2018. Analysis focused on the perioperative clinical course, the efficacy of biliary decompression, and outcomes (survival).

Mean total serum bilirubin levels (mg/dL) on postoperative day (POD) 7, POD30, and POD90 were significantly lower than before IRE (respectively 3.46

The decompression of biliary obstruction without the need for PTBD tubes is also expected to improve the quality of life of patients.COVID-19 and lung cancer are two severe pulmonary diseases that cause millions of deaths globally each year. Understanding the dysregulated signaling pathways between them can benefit treating the related patients. Recent studies suggest the critical role of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in both diseases, indicating an interplay between them. Here we reviewed references showing that ROS and ROS-associated signaling pathways, specifically via NRF2, HIF-1, and Nf-κB pathways, may bridge mutual impact between COVID-19 and lung cancer. As expected, typical ROS-associated inflammation pathways (HIF-1 and Nf-κB) are activated in both diseases. The activation of both pathways in immune cells leads to an overloading immune response and exacerbates inflammation in COVID-19. In lung cancer, HIF-1 activation facilitates immune escape, while Nf-κB activation in T cells suppresses tumor growth. However, the altered NRF2 pathway show opposite trends between them, NRF2 pathways exert immunosuppressive effects in both diseases, as it represses the immune response in COVID-19 patients while facilitates the immune escape of tumor cells. Furthermore, we summarized the therapeutic targets (e.g., phytochemicals) on these ROS pathways. In sum, our review focus on the understanding of ROS Signaling in COVID-19 and lung cancer, showing that modulating ROS signaling pathways may alleviate the potentially mutual impacts between COVID-19 and lung cancer patients.
