The discovery of selection signatures has enabled the identification of genomics regions under selective pressure, enhancing knowledge of evolutionary genotype-phenotypes. Sex chromosomes play an important role in species formation and evolution. Therefore, the exploration of selection signatures on sex chromosomes has important biological significance.
In this study, we used the Cross Population Extend Haplotype Homozygosity Test (XPEHH), F-statistics (F
) and EigenGWAS to assess selection signatures on the Z chromosome in 474 broiler chickens via Illumina chicken 60 K SNP chips. SNP genotype data were downloaded from publicly available resources. We identified 17 selection regions, amongst which 1, 11 and 12 were identified by XPEHH, F
, and EigenGWAS, respectively. Each end of the Z chromosome appeared to undergo the highest levels of selection pressure. A total of 215 candidate genes were located in 17 selection regions, some of which mediated lipogenesis, fatty acid production, fat metabolism, and fat decomposition, including FGF10, ELOVL7, and IL6ST. Using abdominal adipose tissue expression data of the chickens, 187 candidate genes were expressed with 15 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in fat vs. lean lines identified. Amongst the DEGs, VCAN was related to fat metabolism. GO pathway enrichment analysis and QTL annotations were performed to fully characterize the selection mechanism(s) of chicken abdominal fat content.

These findings enhance our understanding of sex chromosome selection signatures.Background As a result of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant accident, many residents evacuated and were exposed to changes in their living environment and socioeconomic status, and to persistent stressors. Past studies have suggested the potential for these circumstances to contribute to long-term changes to population health.Objective The objective of this study was to gain a better understanding of long-term health effects of evacuation, by evaluating the risk of non-communicable diseases among evacuees from Minamisoma City (one of the closest municipalities to the power plant) until 2017.Methods The study evaluated data from annual health check-ups for residents aged 40-74 years covered by National Health Insurance (who are largely self-employed) from 2010 to 2017 administered by Minamisoma City. Diabetes, hyperlipidemia, and hypertension were defined from the results of blood sampling. Annual changes in age-adjusted prevalence were estimated by evacuation scenario. An analysis of Stahl's career shift from a university professor to a royal physician at court thus sheds light on the reversal of his positions.There are few apparent studies regarding the association between fine particulate matter (PM2.5) air pollution and development of depression. Data obtained from epidemiological studies are inconsistent and controversial. The aim of this case-crossover study was to examine the association between short-term exposure to PM2.5 alone and in combination with other pollutants and frequency of hospitalizations for depression from 2009 to 2013 in Taipei, Taiwan. In the single pollutant model without adjustment for other pollutants, 17% and 4% increase in admissions attributed to depression correlated with interquartile range (IQR) rise in PM2.5 levels was noted on warm and cool days, respectively. Data were also analyzed using two-pollutant models and it was found that on warm days, the association continued to be significant after including one of the following pollutants sulfur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), ozone (O3) or carbon monoxide (CO). On cool days, the significance was lost. In conclusion, the relationship between ambient outdoor PM2.5 exposure and rates of hospitalization for depression appeared to be temperature dependent in Taipei. Further research is needed to verify these observations as well as to distinguish the relative contributions of PM2.5 and temperature to development for hospital admissions for depression.We know that performing simultaneous cognitive tasks during locomotion results in reduced performance on either or both tasks, however the role of the cognitive system in the execution of last-minute changes to ongoing adaptive locomotor tasks is not fully understood. Nineteen participants were initially cued to circumvent to left, right, or step over an obstacle while an auditory cognitive task was simultaneously presented. In half of the trials, no change in avoidance strategy was required; in the remaining trials, participants were visually cued two steps in advance to execute a new circumvention strategy. Participants decreased gait velocity and increased cognitive task response times when executing changes in strategy, highlighting the important role the cognitive system plays in these complex tasks.This study examined the moderating influence of resilience on the association between emotional intelligence and work engagement in clinical leaders. Using Minnesota's data of 2015-2016 National Core Indicators - Aging and Disabilities survey (n = 3,426), this study revealed that functional status and community inclusion had both direct and indirect effects on SRH, with negative mood as a mediator. To stimulate research on the intersection of migration and caregiving, we conducted an inventory of longitudinal aging survey datasets from mainland China. Large publicly available datasets that included measures related to migration and caregiving were searched and reviewed for eligibility. Key characteristics of each dataset, including study design, sample size, and measures, were extracted. Seven eligible datasets were identified, and five included nationally representative samples. Measures for migration varied across datasets. Some datasets included information on the migration history of older adults, whereas others focused on the migration of adult children. Similarly, caregiving was measured using different questions in each dataset. Caregiving activities were assessed with regard to their type, source, and amount. High-quality datasets exist to support research on migration and caregiving arrangements among Chinese older adults.Greenlandic traditional nutrition was unique in the arctic environment because it was an almost exclusive meat dietary pattern. Høygaard et al. left Copenhagen in August 1936, and stayed in East Greenland until August 1937. The four members of the expedition resided in Tasisaq and visited eight settlements around where nutritional intake was recorded by residing in families. However, the nutritional intake was analysed on a household level. The aim of the present study is to reanalyse the Høygaard et al. data according to modern scientific standards.In total, 21 males and 14 females participated. Median (IQR) energy consumption was 3881 (1568) kcal.day-1 for males and 2910 (882) kcal.day-1 for females. Without the five participants living near trading centres, this was 3268 (219) kcal.day-1 and 2634 (723) kcal.day-1, respectively. Expressed in energy-percent, the macronutrient consumptions were 34% for protein, 37% for fat and 29% for carbohydrates. Without imported food, this was 41%, 49% and 10%, respectively.The main findings of the present study are, as expected, that the food consumed came mainly from traditional hunting, was low in plant foods and extremely low in carbohydrates. The Inuit succeeded to stay in apparently healthy conditions with a traditional meat-based dietary pattern.
