The data in this study provide a scientific basis for assessment on origin tracing, dietary exposure, and health risk of PAHs and their derivatives.Minisci-type reactions constitute one of the most powerful methods for building up complexity around basic heteroarenes. The most desirable variants involve formal oxidative coupling of a C-H bond on each partner, leading back to the simplest possible starting materials. We herein disclose a method that enables such a coupling of linear amides and heteroarenes with full control of enantioselectivity at the newly formed stereocenter as well as site selectivity on both the heteroarene and the amide. This is achieved by the use of a chiral phosphoric acid catalyst in conjunction with diacetyl as a combined hydrogen atom transfer reagent and oxidant. Diacetyl is directly photoexcitable, and thus, no extraneous photocatalyst is required an added feature that contributes to the simplicity and practicality of the protocol.Nanoparticles that combine several magnetic phases offer wide perspectives for cutting edge applications because of the high modularity of their magnetic properties. Besides the addition of the magnetic characteristics intrinsic to each phase, the interface that results from core-shell and, further, from onion structures leads to synergistic properties such as magnetic exchange coupling. Such a phenomenon is of high interest to overcome the superparamagnetic limit of iron oxide nanoparticles which hampers potential applications such as data storage or sensors. In this manuscript, we report on the design of nanoparticles with an onion-like structure which has been scarcely reported yet. These nanoparticles consist of a Fe3-δO4 core covered by a first shell of CoFe2O4 and a second shell of Fe3-δO4, e.g., a Fe3-δO4@CoFe2O4@Fe3-δO4 onion-like structure. They were synthesized through a multistep seed-mediated growth approach which consists consists in performing three successive thermal decomposition of metal comps, the modification of the chemical composition as well as the size of the Fe3-δO4 core and the thickness of the cobalt ferrite shell have a high impact on the magnetic properties. Furthermore, the growth of the iron oxide shell also markedly modifies the magnetic properties of the core-shell nanoparticles, thus demonstrating the high potential of onion-like nanoparticles to accurately tune the magnetic properties of nanoparticles according to the desired applications.Organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) are considered as one of the cost-effective biosensor devices with rapid detection capabilities and multiparameter responses. However, the functionalization processes on normal organic devices might impact the device performance for its further sensitive and reliable sensing applications. Herein, we develop a novel organic material, 2,6-bis(4-formylphenyl)anthracene (BFPA) for use as the protective and functional layer of OFET-based biosensors, enabling ultrasensitive determination of alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) with femtomolar accuracy in human serum. By monitoring changes of the source-drain current (Ids) and threshold voltage (Vth) electrical signals, the device exhibits improved reliability in detecting AFP biomarkers and is able to differentiate between liver cancer patients and healthy individuals. Featuring label-free determination, shorter analysis time, and lower sample volume, this ultrasensitive and reliable OFET-based biosensor displays numerous advantages over traditional strategies such as enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and electrochemiluminescence immunoassay, demonstrating that the proposed OFET-based biosensors have broader analytical and clinical applications for early liver cancer diagnosis. The microbial diversity of several environments has been explored by researchers for the biodegradation of pyrethroids. In this study, a new approach was employed aiming at the use of Bacillus thuringiensis Berliner, a strain commercially available as bioinsecticide, for Cypermethrin (Cyp) biodegradation. This bacterial strain grew in the presence of Cyp and biodegraded this xenobiotic in a liquid medium. A central composite design for surface response methodology was employed for biodegradation. Under optimized conditions (50 mg·L-1 of Cyp, pH 8.5, 37 °C), 83.5% biodegradation was determined with the production of 12.0 ± 0.6 mg·L-1 3-phenoxybenzoic acid after 5 days. Moreover, a biodegradation pathway with the 18 compounds identified by GC-MS and LC-MS/MS was proposed. Experiments in soil for 28 days at 30 °C were performed, and 16.7% Cyp degradation was determined under abiotic conditions, whereas 36.6 ± 1.9% biodegradation was observed for B. thuringiensis Berliner with the native microbiome, indicating that bioaugmentation with this strain promoted a significant increase in the Cyp decontamination. Therefore, B. thuringiensis Berliner can act as biodegrader agent and insecticide at the same time, promoting decontamination of chemicals as Cyp while maintaining the protection of crops against insects. Moreover, B. thuringiensis species can produce bacteriocins with antifungal activity, which may increase agricultural productivity.Latent blood fingerprints (LBFPs) can provide critical information of foul play and help identify the suspects at violent crime scenes. The current methods for LBFP visualization are still not satisfactory because of the low sensitivity or complicated protocol. This study demonstrates a simple and effective LBFP visualization strategy by integrating a new amphiphilic fluorescent amino-functionalized conjugated polymer with the cotton-pad developing protocol. LBFPs on various substrates are visualized by simply covering them with the polymer solution-soaked cotton pads. The images display clear fingerprint patterns, ridge details, and sweat pores, even on very challenging substrates such as painted wood and multicolored can. The gray value analysis confirms semiquantitatively the enhancement of the contrast between ridges and furrows. Even LBFPs with various contaminations or aged for more than 600 days are effectively developed and visualized. selleck compound The developed fingerprint images show superior stability over long storage time and against solvent washing.
