The need for retrofitting existing masonry structures is progressively becoming more important due to their continuous deterioration or need to meet the current design requirements of Eurocodes. Textile-Reinforced Mortar (TRM) composite systems have emerged as a sustainable repair methodology suitable for structure retrofitting. Nevertheless, their mechanical performance is still far from being fully investigated. This paper presents an experimental study on the tensile and bond behaviors of a new mortar-based composite consisting of mineral additives, blended cement mortar, and stainless-steel grid. Three different mineral additives (silica fume, fly ash, and blast furnace slag), in binary and ternary systems were used. The experimental study included uniaxial tensile coupon testing on composite specimens and bond tests on composite material applied to clay-brick substrate. The results obtained with the different textile-reinforced cement-based mortars were compared and are discussed here. It was found that, for mortar formulations containing mineral additives-such as fly ash or blast-furnace slag-with high tensile and bond strengths, an adequate adherence between the constituents was obtained. The developed mortar presents mechanical performances equivalent to traditional mortars without additives. The study contributes to the existing knowledge regarding the structural behavior of TRM and promotes the development of a low impact carbon cementitious matrix. To develop novel 99mTc-labeled single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) radiotracers for imaging hypoxia, a novel HYNICNM ligand (6-hydrazinonicotinamide (HYNIC) 2-nitroimidazole derivative) was designed and synthesized. It was radiolabeled with technetium-99m using tricine/trisodium triphenylphosphine-3,3',3''-trisulfonate (TPPTS), tricine/sodium triphenylphosphine-3-monosulfonate (TPPMS) and tricine as co-ligands to obtain [99mTc]Tc-tricine-TPPTS-HYNICNM, [99mTc]Tc-tricine-TPPMS-HYNICNM, and [99mTc]Tc-(tricine)2-HYNICNM, respectively. The three technetium-99m complexes were radiolabeled in one step with a high yield (95%) and had good stability in saline and mouse serum. In vitro cellular uptake results showed that these complexes exhibited good hypoxic selectivity. The partition coefficient indicated that they were good hydrophilic complexes, and [99mTc]Tc-tricine-TPPTS-HYNICNM displayed the highest hydrophilicity (-3.02 ± 0.08). The biodistribution in mice bearing S180 tumors showed that [99mTc]Tc-tricine-TPPTS-HYNICNM exhibited higher tumor uptake (1.05 ± 0.27% IA/g); more rapid clearance from the liver, blood, muscle, and other non-target organs; and a higher tumor/non-target ratio, especially for the tumor/liver ratio (1.95), than [99mTc]Tc-tricine-TPPMS-HYNICNM and [99mTc]Tc-(tricine)2-HYNICNM. The results of single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) imaging studies of [99mTc]Tc-tricine-TPPTS-HYNICNM were in accordance with the biodistribution results, which suggested that [99mTc]Tc-tricine-TPPTS-HYNICNM is a promising agent for imaging tumor hypoxia. An important limitation for the population growth of European bison in the Bieszczady Mountains may be the level of social acceptance. The study aimed to compare attitudes to European bison of local village inhabitants in Bieszczady and city dwellers in Rzeszów. We also investigated whether damage caused by European bison or other wild species changes peoples' perceptions of this animal. Our study showed that not only does the growing European bison population cause an increase in negative attitudes among local village communities, but this species also causes more conflict than any other herbivore in the Bieszczady Mountains. Village residents believed that the main threats that arise from European bison were the damage they cause and forest use limitations. The current compensation system for the damage caused by this species does not solve the problem because over 60% of damage is not effectively reported to the state administration. The city dwellers of Rzeszów displayed a different attitude towards the European bison. We concluded that while educational workshops for local villagers may alleviate conflict in the short-term, ultimately it is only by restricting the growth of the European bison population that a long-term effect will be achieved.Coinage metal(I)···metal(I) interactions are widely of interest in fields such as supramolecular assembly and unique luminescent properties, etc. Only two types of polynuclear silver(I) pyrazolato complexes have been reported, however, and no detailed spectroscopic characterizations have been reported. An unexpected synthetic method yielded a polynuclear silver(I) complex [Ag(μ-L1Clpz)] n (L1Clpz- = 4-chloride-3,5-diisopropyl-1-pyrazolate anion) by the reaction of [Ag(μ-L1Clpz)]32 with (nBu4N)[Ag(CN)2]. The obtained structure was compared with the known hexanuclear silver(I) complex [Ag(μ-L1Clpz)]32. The Ag···Ag distances in [Ag(μ-L1Clpz)] n are slightly shorter than twice Bondi's van der Waals radius, indicating some Ag···Ag argentophilic interactions. Two Ag-N distances in [Ag(μ-L1Clpz)] n were found 2.0760(13) and 2.0716(13) Å, and their N-Ag-N bond angles of 180.00(7)° and 179.83(5)° indicate that each silver(I) ion is coordinated by two pyrazolyl nitrogen atoms with an almost linear coordination. Every five pyrazoles point in the same direction to form a 1-D zig-zag structure. Almorexant Some spectroscopic properties of [Ag(μ-L1Clpz)] n in the solid-state are different from those of [Ag(μ-L1Clpz)]32 (especially in the absorption and emission spectra), presumably attributable to this zig-zag structure having longer but differently arranged intramolecular Ag···Ag interactions of 3.39171(17) Å. This result clearly demonstrates the different physicochemical properties in the solid-state between 1-D coordination polymer and metalacyclic trinuclear (hexanuclear) or tetranuclear silver(I) pyrazolate complexes. The ability to grow in anchorage-independent conditions is an important feature of malignant cells, and it is well-established that cellular phenotypes in adherent cultures can differ widely from phenotypes observed in xenografts and anchorage-independent conditions. The anchorage-independent soft-agar colony formation assay has been widely used as a bridge between adherent cell cultures and animal tumor studies, providing a reliable in vitro tool to predict the tumorigenicity of cancer cells. However, this functional assay is limited in its utility for molecular mechanistic studies, as currently there is no reliable method that allows the extraction of biological macromolecules from cells embedded in soft-agar matrices, especially in experimental conditions where no visible colonies form. We developed a set of new methods that enable the extraction of DNA, RNA and proteins directly from cells embedded in soft agar, allowing for a wide range of molecular signaling analysis. Using the new methods and human mammary epithelial cells (HMECs), we studied the role of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in the ability of HMECs to form colonies in soft agar.
