Medication non-adherence may cause significant morbidity and mortality in patients with chronic diseases and may increase the economic burden on the healthcare system. The prevalence of neurological disorders is increasing in Malaysia; however, comprehensive data on medication adherence among Malaysian patients with these disorders is limited. This study was conducted to determine the association of medication non-adherence with quality of life in patients with neurological problems.

A cross-sectional survey was performed in 370 patients diagnosed with epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, stroke and Alzheimer's disease at Neurology clinic. Patients aged 18 years or older, without documented physical or psychiatric illness such as schizophrenia and major depression, were included. Patient-administered questionnaires, such as the Malaysian Medication Adherence Scale and Medication Possession Ratio were used to determine medication adherence. An established EQ-5D-3L questionnaire was used to determine quality of lent and non-adherent patients.
Epilepsy is a neurological disease characterized by sudden, abnormal, and hyper- discharges in the central nervous system (CNS). Valproic acid (VPA) is commonly used as a broad-spectrum antiepileptic therapeutic. However, in many cases, patients develop resistance to VPA treatment due to overwhelming oxidative stress, which in turn might be a major catalyst for disease progression. Therefore, antioxidants can potentially become therapeutic agents by counteracting reactive oxygen species (ROS)-mediated damage. The present study is aimed to evaluate the potential antiepileptic effect of astaxanthin (ASTA) in pentylenetetrazol (PTZ) induced epileptic model rats that are chronically treated with VPA for 8weeks.

Fifty-male Wistar rats were randomly divided into five groups Non-PTZ group, PTZ, PTZ/VPA, PTZ/ASTA, and PTZ/VPA/ASTA treated groups.

PTZ/VPA treated group showed a neuroprotective effect with improvement in antioxidant levels, behavioral test, and histopathological changes induced by PTZ. VPA also esy and could potentially minimize recurrence and/or exacerbation of seizures.Considering that no food or supplement has been authorised to prevent COVID-19, individuals continue to search for and consume specific herbs, foods and commercial supplements for this purpose. This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of using such alternatives, determine their usage reasons and evaluate their potential side effects. An online cross-sectional survey of 1,054 participants was conducted from 1 May to 31 July 2020 and focused on respondents' chronic disease histories, socio-demographic characteristics and frequency and trends of using these products. Descriptive and univariate analyses were performed to determine prevalence and associations between various products used and respondents' socio-demographic data. Relationships were tested using Pearson's chi-square test or an exact probability test. The use of herbs and natural products merely because of the COVID-19 pandemic was significantly increased (p=0.036) among Saudi populations. The products included honey (84%), black seeds (63%), lemon (54%) and ginger (41%). Furthermore, the distribution of using herbs and natural products was not linked with any socio-demographic factors other than age. Among the population, 69.30% were aware that herbs can improve their immunity but will not protect them from COVID-19. Finally, the current study highlights the undesirable side effects associated with using herbs and natural products in patients with chronic disease and recommends future research to assess the undesirable effects of using herbs in patients with diabetes with a control group.
Maxillary canines are considered the most commonly impacted teeth, after the third molars. Orthodontists have different preferences on how to approach maxillary impacted canines (MIC). learn more The objective of this article was to investigate orthodontists' approach to managing MIC.

A cross-sectional study comprising a comprehensive survey with 22 questions was sent to practicing orthodontists. This study explored the preferred diagnostic measures, surgical techniques, materials, and mechanics utilized to manage MIC;104 responses were returned.

Palatal impaction was reported to be encountered more often than labial impaction by 60% of the respondents. In 62% of the respondents, an oral and maxillofacial surgeon was the specialist preferred to perform the surgical exposure. In 66%, the choice of required surgical techniques was reported as a joint decision between orthodontists and other specialists who perform the surgery. Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) was reported to be the diagnostic x-ray of choice. The gold button with a chain was the preferred bonded attachment in 86% of cases. Less than half of the respondents bonded the attachments themselves during surgical exposure. A clear plastic retainer was the preferred retainer in 61% of the respondents, and 43% of the respondents tended to use a closed exposure technique. Coe-pak
was the preferred surgical pack for orthodontists who prefer an open exposure technique. Piggyback (double wire) was the preferable mechanic to move a palatally impacted canine.

Our findings indicate that there are variations among orthodontists on how to manage MICs in terms of diagnostic methods, surgical management, materials, and mechanics.

This study aims to develop a valid and reliable Arabic version of the Compliance Questionnaire on Rheumatology (CQR-A) and to explore the impact of demographic factors on compliance.

This is a descriptive cross-sectional study carried out at the outpatient clinics of rheumatology in King Fahad hospital (KFH) in Madinah, Saudi Arabia, from May 2019 to October 2019. Initially, the original version was culturally adapted to an Arabic version by forward translation, backward translation, committee review of both the Arabic and the original versions, and lastly, pre-testing. Then, seventy-two rheumatoid arthritis patients were recruited to evaluate the reliability and validity of the CQR-A. Reliability was assessed by the test-retest method with a two-week interval through the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). The criterion validity of the CQR-A was assessed through Pearson correlation of pharmacy refill and CQR-A. The content validity index (CVI) was used to determine content validity. Multiple regression analysis was done to evaluate the effect of demographic factors on compliance.
