SHiB requires self-installation before use. Our previous study found that it is not easy for seniors to install SHiB correctly. SHiB CBLE is a computer-based learning environment that is designed to help individuals install a SHiB kit. This article presents an experiment examining how smart home sensor installation was affected by knowledge gained from two methods, SHiB CBLE, and a written document. Results show that participants who were trained by the CBLE took significantly (p less then 0.05) less time in the installation session than those in the control group. The accuracy rate of SHiB kit installation is 78% for the group trained by the CBLE and 77% for the control group. Participants trained by the CBLE showed significantly (p less then 0.01) higher confidence in the actual installation than those in the control group. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to check the surface morphology while x-ray diffraction (XRD) was used to check the crystallinity of the sodalite crystals and as-synthesized membranes. Single gas permeation of H2, CO2, N2 and mixture gas H2/CO2 was used to probe the quality of the membranes. Gas permeation results revealed nanocomposite membrane prepared via the PPH synthesis protocols using two interruption steps displayed the best performance. This was attributed to the enhanced pore-plugging effect of sodalite crystals in the pores of the support after the second interruption step. The nanocomposite membrane displayed H2 permeance of 7.97 × 10-7 mol·s-1·m-2·Pa-1 at 100 °C and 0.48 MPa feed pressure with an ideal selectivity of 8.76. Regarding H2/CO2 mixture, the H2 permeance reduced from 8.03 × 10-7 mol·s-1·m-2·Pa-1 to 1.06 × 10-7 mol·s-1·m-2·Pa-1 at 25 °C and feed pressure of 0.18 MPa. In the presence of CO2, selectivity of the nanocomposite membrane reduced to 4.24.To evaluate mechanical performance properties of various types of cortical bone screw, cancellous bone screw, and locking bolt, we conducted torsional breaking and durability tests, screw driving torque tests into bone models, and screw pullout tests (crosshead speed 10 mm/min) after driving torque tests. The 2° proof and rupture torques of a screw, which were estimated from torque versus rotational angle curves, increased with increasing core diameter of the screw. The durability limit of metallic screws obtained by four-point bending durability tests increased with increasing core diameter. The compressive, tensile, and shear strengths of the bone models used for the mechanical testing of orthopedic devices increased with increasing density of the bone model. The strength and modulus obtained for solid rigid polyurethane foam (SRPF) and cellular rigid polyurethane foam (CRPF) lay on the same straight line. Among the three strengths, the rate of increase in compressive strength with the increase in density was the highest. The maximum torque obtained by screw driving torque tests for up to 8.3 rotations (3000°) into the bone models tended to increase with increasing core diameter. In particular, the maximum torque increased linearly with increasing effective surface area of the screw, as newly defined in this work. The maximum pullout load increased linearly with increasing number of rotations and mechanical strength of the bone model. Screws with low driving torque and high pullout load were considered to have excellent fixation and are a target for development.Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disease with no cure nowadays; there is no treatment either to prevent or to stop its progression. In vitro studies suggested that tert-butyl-(4-hydroxy-3-((3-(2-methylpiperidin-yl)propyl)carbamoyl)phenyl) carbamate named the M4 compound can act as both β-secretase and an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor, preventing the amyloid beta peptide (Aβ) aggregation and the formation of fibrils (fAβ) from Aβ1-42. This work first aimed to assess in in vitro studies to see whether the death of astrocyte cells promoted by Aβ1-42 could be prevented. Second, our work investigated the ability of the M4 compound to inhibit amyloidogenesis using an in vivo model after scopolamine administration. The results showed that M4 possesses a moderate protective effect in astrocytes against Aβ1-42 due to a reduction in the TNF-α and free radicals observed in cell cultures. In the in vivo studies, however, no significant effect of M4 was observed in comparison with a galantamine model employed in rats, in which case this outcome was attributed to the bioavailability of M4 in the brain of the rats.
