We demonstrate that aryltriazenes can promote three distinctive types of C-H functionalization reactions, allowing the preparation of complex benzene molecules with diverse substitution patterns. 2-Triazenylbenzaldehydes are shown to be efficient substrates for Rh(I)-catalyzed intermolecular alkyne hydroacylation reactions. The resulting triazene-substituted ketone products can then undergo either a Rh(III)-catalyzed C-H activation, or an electrophilic aromatic substitution reaction, achieving multifunctionalization of the benzene core. Subsequent triazene derivatization provides traceless products.The exploitation of the α-trifluoromethylamino group as an amide surrogate in peptidomimetics and drug candidates has been on the rise. In a large number of these cases, this moiety bears stereochemistry with the stereochemical identity having important consequences on numerous molecular properties, such as the potency of the compound. Yet, the majority of stereoselective syntheses of α-CF3 amines rely on diastereoselective couplings with chiral reagents. Concurrent with the rapid expansion of fluorine into pharmaceuticals has been the development of catalytic enantioselective means of preparing α-trifluoromethyl amines. In this work, we outline the strategies that have been employed for accessing these enantioenriched amines, including normal polarity approaches and several recent developments in imine umpolung transformations.Ordered polycyclization catalyzed by oxidosqualene synthases (OSCs) morph a common linear precursor into structurally complex and diverse triterpene scaffolds with varied bioactivities. We identified three OSCs from Iris tectorum. ItOSC2 is a rare multifunctional α-amyrin synthase. Sequence comparisons, site-directed mutagenesis and multiscale simulations revealed that three spatially clustered residues, Y531/L256/L258 form an unusual Y-LL triad at the active site, replacing the highly conserved W-xY triad occurring in other amyrin synthases. The discovery of this unprecedented active site architecture in ItOSC2 underscores the plasticity of terpene cyclase catalytic mechanisms and opens new avenues for protein engineering towards custom designed OSCs.Ergothioneine, a natural longevity vitamin and antioxidant, is a thiol-histidine derivative. In the aerobic ergothioneine biosynthesis, a non-heme iron enzyme incorporates a sulfoxide to an sp2 C-H bond in trimethyl-histidine (hercynine) through oxidation reactions. Herein, we demonstrate that polysulfide (HSSnSR) is the direct sulfur-source in EanB-catalysis. After identifying EanB's substrates, X-ray crystallography of several intermediate states along with mass spectrometry results provide additional mechanistic details for this reaction. Further, quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics (QM/MM) calculations reveal that protonation of Nπ of hercynine by Tyr353 with the assistance of Thr414 is a key activation step for the hercynine sp2 C-H bond in this trans-sulfuration reaction.It is challenging to biosynthesize industrially important aldehydes, which are readily consumed by the numerous alcohol dehydrogenases (ADHs) in cells. In this work, we demonstrate that a nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN+)-dependent redox cofactor cycling system enables aldehyde accumulation in Escherichia coli crude lysates and whole cells. By specifically delivering reducing power to a recombinant enoate reductase, but not to endogenous ADHs, we convert citral to citronellal with minimal byproduct formation (97-100% and 83% product purity in crude lysate- and whole cell-based biotransformation, respectively). Readily available, inexpensive, and stable fluoroalkyl carboxylic acids (RFCO2H) serve as the fluoroalkyl (RF) source in this transformation. Stoichiometric organometallic studies reveal that RF-S bond-forming reductive elimination is a challenging step in the catalytic cycle. This led to the identification of diphenylphosphinoferrocene as the optimal ligand for this transformation. Ultimately, this method was applied to the construction of diverse fluoroalkyl thioethers (RFSR), with R = both aryl and alkyl.
Victimization is common in adolescence and is associated with negative outcomes, including school failure, and poor emotional, behavioral, and physical health. A deeper understanding of the risk of victimization can inform prevention and intervention efforts. This study tests the risky behavior model in adolescents, examining prospective associations between mean levels of and changes in delinquency and risk for victimization over four annual data collections.

The development of natural biomaterials applied for hard tissue repair and regeneration is of great importance, especially in societies with a large elderly population. Self-assembled peptide hydrogels are a new generation of biomaterials that provide excellent biocompatibility, tunable mechanical stability, injectability, trigger capability, lack of immunogenic reactions, and the ability to load cells and active pharmaceutical agents for tissue regeneration. Peptide-based hydrogels are ideal templates for the deposition of hydroxyapatite crystals, which can mimic the extracellular matrix. Thus, peptide-based hydrogels enhance hard tissue repair and regeneration compared to conventional methods. This review presents three major self-assembled peptide hydrogels with potential application for bone and dental tissue regeneration, including ionic self-complementary peptides, amphiphilic (surfactant-like) peptides, and triple-helix (collagen-like) peptides. Special attention is given to the main bioactive peptides, the role and importance of self-assembled peptide hydrogels, and a brief overview on molecular simulation of self-assembled peptide hydrogels applied for bone and dental tissue engineering and regeneration.
The risk of experiencing psychiatric symptoms related to the COVID-19 pandemic is high among health care workers whose occupations are in public health, emergency medicine, and intensive or critical care.
A cross-sectional study aimed to assess the prevalence of fear of COVID-19 among 411 frontline Egyptian physicians during COVID-19 pandemic; identify determinants & predictors for fear of COVID-19; determine the impact of fear of COVID-19 on job satisfaction; and detect the impact of fear of COVID-19 on turnover intention. Three standardized scales (fear of COVID-19, job satisfaction and turnover intention scores) were used for data collection via online google form.
Regarding fear relating to COVID-19 pandemic; 16.5% of the study subjects were classified as experiencing a severe fear level, while 78.1% experienced a moderate degree. A significant association between the level of fear relating to COVID-19 and work department. The highest degree of fear is in a general-educational-university facility. Regarding job satisfaction; 42% of those having severe level of fear are dissatisfied. Fear of COVID-19 is negatively associated with job satisfaction while positively significant correlated with turnover scores; positive significant predictor of turnover intention. Job satisfaction is negatively associated with turnover intention; a negative significant predictor of turnover intention.
