Civilians are often first-line respondersin hemorrhage control; however, windlass tourniquets are not intuitive. Untrained users reading enclosed instructions failed in 38.2% of tourniquet applications. This prospective follow-up study replicated testing following Stop the Bleed(STB) training.

One and six months following STB, first-year medical students were randomly assigned a windlass tourniquet with enclosed instructions. Each was given one minute to read instructions and two minutes to apply the windlass tourniquet on the TraumaFXHEMO trainer. Demographics, time to read instructions andstop bleeding, blood loss, and simulation success were analyzed.

100students received STB training. 31and 34 students completed tourniquet testing at one month and six months, respectively. At both intervals, 38% of students were unable to control hemorrhage (P=0.97). When compared to the pilot study without STB training (median 48 sec, IQR 33-60 sec), the time taken to read the instructions was shorterone month following STB (P <0.001), but there was no difference at 6 months (P=0.1). Incorrect placement was noted for 19.4% and 23.5% of attempts at 1 and 6 months. Male participants were more successful in effective placementat one month (93.3% versus 31.3%, P=0.004) and at six months (77.8% versus 43.8%, p=0.04).

Most general surgery residents pursue fellowship; there is limited understanding of the impact residents and fellows have on each other's education. The goal of this exploratory survey was to identify these impacts.

Surgical residents and fellows at a single academic institution were surveyed regarding areas (OR assignments, the educational focus of the team, roles and responsibilities on the team, interpersonal communication, call, "other") hypothesized to be impacted by other learners. Impact was defined as "something that persistently affects the clinical learning environment and a trainee's education or ability to perform their job". Narrative responses were reviewed until dominant themes were identified.

Twenty-three residents (23/45, 51%) and 12 fellows (12/21, 57%) responded. Responses were well distributed among resident year (PGY-117% [4/23], PGY-2, 35% [8/23], PGY-3 26% [6/23], PGY-4 9% [2/23%], PGY-5 13% [3/23]). Most residents reported OR assignment (14/23, 61%) as the area of primary impactrating together may alleviate this, providing a positive experience for all trainees. Defining a unique educational role for fellows and delineating team expectations may maximize the positive impacts in this relationship.Content-based histopathological image retrieval (CBHIR) has become popular in recent years in histopathological image analysis. CBHIR systems provide auxiliary diagnosis information for pathologists by searching for and returning regions that are contently similar to the region of interest (ROI) from a pre-established database. It is challenging and yet significant in clinical applications to retrieve diagnostically relevant regions from a database consisting of histopathological whole slide images (WSIs). In this paper, we propose a novel framework for regions retrieval from WSI database based on location-aware graphs and deep hash techniques. Compared to the present CBHIR framework, both structural information and global location information of ROIs in the WSI are preserved by graph convolution and self-attention operations, which makes the retrieval framework more sensitive to regions that are similar in tissue distribution. Moreover, benefited from the graph structure, the proposed framework has good scalability for both the size and shape variation of ROIs. It allows the pathologist to define query regions using free curves according to the appearance of tissue. Thirdly, the retrieval is achieved based on the hash technique, which ensures the framework is efficient and adequate for practical large-scale WSI database. The proposed method was evaluated on an in-house endometrium dataset with 2650 WSIs and the public ACDC-LungHP dataset. The experimental results have demonstrated that the proposed method achieved a mean average precision above 0.667 on the endometrium dataset and above 0.869 on the ACDC-LungHP dataset in the task of irregular region retrieval, which are superior to the state-of-the-art methods. The average retrieval time from a database containing 1855 WSIs is 0.752 ms. However, some MRI studies did not find significant ACC volumetric changes in MDD, and sample sizes were generally small. This cross-sectional structural MRI study examined the relationship between current depressive symptoms and ACC volume in a large community sample of 1803 adults. A series of multiple linear regression analyses were conducted to predict right and left ACC volumes using Quick Inventory of Depressive Symptomatology Self-Report (QIDS-SR) scores, intracranial volume, age, sex, race/ethnicity, alcohol use, tobacco use, and psychotropic medications as predictor variables. Right ACC volume was significantly negatively associated with QIDS-SR scores, while no significant association was found between left ACC volume and QIDS-SR scores. In addition, there was a significant negative association between QIDS-SR scores and right but not left ACC volumes in males, and no significant association between QIDS-SR scores and right or left ACC volumes in females. These findings suggest that right ACC volume is reduced in people with greater self-reported depressive symptom severity, and that this association is only significant in men.Multiple lines of evidence indicate that antipsychotic agents could affect brain structures of schizophrenia patients. However, the effect of antipsychotic dosage or type on brain structure is uncertain. The present study retrospectively analyzed brain computed tomography (CT) images from a psychiatric hospital to examine the relationship between cumulative dose of antipsychotics and brain volume reduction in schizophrenia patients. A total of 43 patients with repeated relapse episode of psychosis were included and CT scans that were performed an average of 3.2 times per patient during nearly 13 years of follow-up were analyzed. The results revealed significant positive relationships of expansion of cerebrospinal fluid space with cumulative dosage of all antipsychotics and that of typical antipsychotics. link3 Patients treated with antipsychotics including typical antipsychotics exhibited a greater volume reduction compared to patients treated with only atypical antipsychotics. The present study was one of the longest longitudinal studies examining the effects of antipsychotics on brain volume in schizophrenia patients.
