To explore the incidence, severity, and risk factors of multidimensional fatigue in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) receiving concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT).
This prospective study included 79 patients with NPC in Guangzhou (China) from June 2015 to July 2018. Data were collected before and after CCRT, including demographic and clinical characteristics, nutritional parameters, and fatigue scores, based on completion of the Multiple Dimensional Inventory-20 Questionnaire, with five subscales General Fatigue, Mental Fatigue, Physical Fatigue, Reduced Activity, and Reduced Motivation.
Increased general fatigue was found to be associated with lower lymphocyte count and body mass index <23 kg/m
. Increased physical fatigue was related to age > 42 years. Higher scores for reduced activity were associated with age > 42 years, female sex, and lower serum sodium. Increased mental fatigue was related with lower lymphocyte count and unemployment; and increased total fatigue was associated with lower lymphocyte count, age > 42 years, and 3-6 courses of treatment. Furthermore, 3-6 courses of treatment was an independent predictor of severe general fatigue, while age >42 years was an independent predictor of severe physical fatigue. Importantly, cancer stage IVB and 3-6 courses of treatment could predict severe total fatigue.
Our data demonstrate that fatigue is increased in all dimensions in NPC patients following CCRT, and that the predictors differ for each fatigue dimension. These results could guide the development of targeted interventions that may reduce the impact of cancer-related fatigue in patients with NPC.

Altering solid or liquid dose formulations renders administration unlicensed and may have adverse effects. Medication administration in patients with dysphagia necessitates a multidisciplinary approach with no one profession holding all necessary expertise. This project aimed to improve the process of medication administration for patients with dysphagia in an acute hospital. Following a baseline audit of practice, an electronic referral system from Speech & Language Therapy (SLT) to Pharmacy was established. Repeat post-implementation audits documenting medication administration to patients with dysphagia and SLT compliance in completing electronic referral were conducted. Of the 43 patients included in the post-implementation audits, 14 (32.6%) were referred from SLT to Pharmacy using the electronic referral system. Those patients referred electronically were reviewed by Pharmacy quicker than those patients who were not referred and had a higher percentage of optimally administered medications. All SLTs eligible (n = 10) were surveyed to explore use of the system and barriers to its use; reasons given for not completing an electronic referral included not prioritizing the referral if under time pressure and lack of IT access to make the referral. Overall compliance with use of the electronic referral system was lower than expected; further work is needed to establish consistency of practice in using the electronic referral system in the interest of optimizing medication administration to patients.A simple, fast and sensitive method for the detection of luteolin is proposed based on the chitosan/reduced graphene oxide aerogel with dispersed ZrO2 nanoparticles modified glassy carbon electrode (ZrO2/CS/rGOA-GCE) as an electrochemical sensor. The ZrO2/CS/rGOA composite was prepared by one pot synthesis from a mixture of GO, CS and zirconyl chloride octahydrate, and subsequently be freeze-dried. Scanning electron microscope images showed a typical thin, wrinkled and fluctuant morphology of graphene nanosheets and the polymerized CS and ZrO2 nanoparticles deposited on the surface of rGOA. Cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse voltammetry were used to measure the electrochemical response of ZrO2/CS/rGOA composite-based biosensor towards luteolin at the working potential window (-0.8-0.8 V). The improved performance of this biosensor was attributed to efficient electron transfer and large surface area of 3D rGOA, and high specific activity of Zr towards adjacent hydroxyl groups. Under optimized conditions, the analytical performance of this method towards luteolin was investigated with a detection limit of 1 nM and a linear range from 5 nM to 1000 nM.. Finally, the ZrO2/CS/rGOA-GCE electrochemical method coupled with solid phase extraction was used for the detection of luteolin in real samples. Recoveries of spiked samples with different concentrations were in the range 78.6-103.3% with a relative RSD lower than 12.0%. This systematic review aimed to assess the safety and efficacy of outpatient joint arthroplasty (OJA) pathways compared to inpatient pathways.
An electronic literature search was conducted to identify eligible studies. Danicamtiv manufacturer Studies comparing OJA with inpatient pathways-following hip and/or (partial) knee arthroplasty-were included. Included studies were assigned-based on OJA definition-to one of the following two groups (1) outpatient surgery (OS); outpatient defined as discharge on the same day as surgery; and (2) semi-outpatient surgery (SOS); outpatient defined as discharge within 24h after surgery with or without an overnight stay. Methodological quality was assessed. Outcomes included (serious) adverse events ((S)AEs), readmissions, successful same-day discharge rates, patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) and costs. Meta-analyses and subgroup analyses by type of arthroplasty were performed when deemed appropriate.
A total of 41 studies (OS = 26, SOS = 15) met the inclusion criteria. One RCT and 40 observational studies were included, with an overall risk-of-bias of moderate to high.
