In vivo, C10-KR8d is able to reduce bacterial burden of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) USA300 LAC in neutropenic mice. In addition, this designer peptide prevents bacterial biofilm formation in a catheter-associated mouse model. Meanwhile, C10-KR8d also recruits cytokines to the vicinity of catheters to clear infection. Thus, based on the antimicrobial region of LL-37, this study succeeds in identifying the smallest anti-infective peptide C10-KR8d with both robust antimicrobial, antibiofilm, and immune modulation activities.Endovenous ablation has become the preferred means to treat superficial venous insufficiency. Ablative technologies have evolved to include a variety of both thermal and nonthermal techniques. The reported thrombotic complications of endovenous heat induced thrombosis (EHIT) and deep venous thrombosis (DVT) associated with thermal techniques are low ( less then 2% overall). However, the limited data on newer non-thermal technologies suggest these modalities may have thrombotic complication rates upwards of 6%. Additionally, the pathophysiology of thrombotic events related to mechanochemical ablative techniques may differ from EHIT, and thus, may have different implications for management. Described is a case report of a stroke after cyanoacrylate ablation of the great saphenous vein, and a review of the current literature reporting the thrombotic complications associated with current thermal and non-thermal techniques. There exists a need for high volume studies on newer ablative techniques to fully understand their associated thrombotic complications. This review highlights the need for a comprehensive classification system and standard treatment algorithm encompassing of thrombotic complications associated with both thermal and non-thermal ablative techniques.The operative management of craniopharyngiomas has evolved over the last two decades. Traditional transcranial microsurgical approaches were the only option until the advent of the endoscopic endonasal approach. It has given surgeons the ability to tackle a challenging entity from a new perspective with comparable if not superior results. In this review we outline the advancements in endoscopic endonasal approach for craniopharyngiomas, address controversies and review the current literature.
This study aimed to narratively summarize the literature reporting on the effect of teamwork and communication training interventions on culture and patient safety in emergency department (ED) settings.
We searched PubMed, EMBASE, Psych Info CINAHL, Cochrane, Science Citation Inc, the Web of Science, and Educational Resources Information Centre for peer-reviewed journal articles published from January 1, 1988, to June 8, 2018, that assessed teamwork and communication interventions focusing on how they influence patient safety in the ED. One additional search update was performed in July 2019.
Sixteen studies were included from 8700 screened publications. The studies' design, interventions, and evaluation methods varied widely. The most impactful ED training interventions were End-of-Course Critique, Team Strategies and Tools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety (TeamSTEPPS), and crisis resource management (CRM)-based training. Crisis resource management and TeamSTEPPS CRM-based training curriculum may positively affect patient outcome. The implementation of safety culture programs may be considered to reduce incidence of medical errors and adverse events.

The aim of this study was to assess whether surgical (SAVR) and transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) differ in periprocedural platelet activity.
The total number of 24 patients with a mean age (SD) of 71 (13) years who underwent SAVR (n=12) or TAVR (n=12) were recruited for the study. The following parameters were evaluated at four time-points (i) platelet indices total platelet count (PLT), platelet distribution width (PDW) and mean platelet volume (MPV), (ii) MPV/PLT ratio, (iii) platelet level of lipid peroxidation malondialdehyde (MDA) content and MDA/PLT ratio. Eventually, percentage variations of PLT, PDW and MPV in relation to the baseline values were determined.
MPV/PLT ratio increased significantly after procedures in both groups (P = 0.01 in TAVI and P = 0.01 in SAVR). MDA concentrations were significantly higher when assessed directly post-procedure (P = 0.04) as well as 24h later (P = 0.01) in the SAVR and TAVI groups. The indirect parameter of platelet activity indexed for platelet counts (MDA/PLT) was comparable between both groups before and 48 hours after procedures, but was significantly higher in SAVR patients, particularly after 24h after interventions (P = 0.04; medians TAVR vs. SAVR, respectively).

SARS-CoV-2 related multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) is a newly defined clinical entity in pediatric ages resembles Kawasaki Disease or toxic shock syndrome. Here we aimed to raise awareness about this SARS-CoV-2 related syndrome.
Children diagnosed with MIS-C and followed in Pediatric Clinic between November 2020 and January 2021, were included in study. Data about patients' demographic characteristics, clinical and laboratory findings, treatment and outcomes were collected from medical records.
The median age of 20 children with MIS-C was 80.5 months, 11 of them were male. The most common symptoms at admission were fever (100%), abdominal pain (70%), myalgia (50%), and rash (50%). Lymphopenia, elevated inflammatory markers and cardiac enzymes were their main laboratory findings. Cardiac involvement (90%) consisted of myopericarditis, valvulitis, left ventricular dysfunction, and coronary arteritis. Symptoms mimicking acute appendicitis and ileus were due to gastrointestinal involvement (50%).
