We also highlight what the use of bone anabolic drugs, antiresorptive, and biological agents targeting pro-inflammatory cytokines against breast cancer can teach us.3D concrete printing technology (3DCP) is a relatively new technology that was first established in the 1990s. The main weakness of the technology is the interface strength between the extruded layers, which are deposited at different time intervals. Consequently, the interface strength is assumed to vary in relation to the time of concrete casting. The proposed experimental study investigated the behavior of a hardened concrete mixture containing coarse aggregates that were up to 8 mm in size, which is rather unusual for 3DCP technology. Ulonivirine The resulting direct tensile strength at the layer interface was investigated for various time intervals of deposition from the initial mixing of concrete components. To better understand the material behavior at the layer interface area, computed tomography (CT) scanning was conducted, where the volumetric and area analysis enabled validation of the pore size and count distribution in accordance with the layer deposition process. The analyzed CT data related the macroscopic anisotropy and the resulting crack pattern to the temporal and spatial variability that is inherent to the additive manufacturing process at construction scales while providing additional insights into the porosity formation during the extrusion of the cementitious composite. The observed results contribute to previous investigations in this field by demonstrating the causal relationships, namely, how the interface strength development is determined by time, deposition process, and pore size distribution. Moreover, in regard to the printability of the proposed coarse aggregate mixture, the specific time interval is presented and its interplay with interface roughness and porosity is discussed. This paper presents an experimental evaluation of influence of the elastic couplings on the fracture toughness as well as on delamination initiation and propagation in carbon/epoxy composite laminates. For this purpose the mode I double cantilever beam (DCB) tests according to the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) D5528 Standard were performed on specimens with different delamination interfaces and specific lay-ups composition exhibiting the bending-twisting (BT) and the bending-extension (BE) couplings. The critical strain energy release rates (mode I c-SERR, GIC) were calculated by using the classical methods, namely the modified beam theory (MBT), the compliance calibration (CCM) and the modified compliance calibration (MCC). In order to evaluate an accuracy of the different methods, the values of c-SERR obtained by using standardized data reduction schemes were compared with values calculated by using the compliance based beam method (CBBM). All the methods give rise to comparable values of the GIC, which makes the CBBM an appealing choice, since it does not depend on crack length monitoring during the test. Initiation and propagation of delamination were investigated by using the acoustic emission (AE) technique. Moreover, the scanning electron microscope (SEM) analysis were performed after the experimental tests in order to investigate a fracture surface at delamination plane.Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a common disorder with an increasing prevalence, characterised by persistent respiratory symptoms and airflow limitation. Systemic inflammation is involved in the pathogenesis of COPD and can also predispose to metabolic disorders (e.g., metabolic syndrome (MetS) and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD)). Such comorbidities can negatively affect COPD outcomes, cardiovascular risk, and quality of life. Apart from NAFLD, abnormal peri-organ or intra-organ fat (APIFat) could be considered as markers for cardiometabolic diseases and even for COPD. The present narrative review considers the associations of COPD with MetS, NAFLD, and other APIFat, including epicardial, perirenal, peripancreatic, and intramuscular adipose tissue. Further research is needed to define these relationships and identify any potential clinical implications. In the present study, volatile compound analysis of olive oil samples belonging to ten Greek cultivars was carried out. A total of 167 olive oil samples collected from two consecutive harvest years were analyzed by Head Space-Solid Phase Microextraction-Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (HS-SPME-GC/MS). Volatile compound data were combined with chemometric methods (Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA) and Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA)) with the aim not only to differentiate olive oils but also to identify characteristic volatile compounds that would enable differentiation of botanical origin (marker compounds). The application of Stepwise LDA (SLDA) effectively reduced the large number of statistically significant volatile compounds involved in the differentiation process, and thus, led to a set of parameters, the majority of which belong to compounds that are highly dependent on variety. In addition, the use of these marker compounds resulted in an increased correct classification rate (85.6%) using the cross-validation method indicating the validity of the model developed despite the use of a large number of dependent variables (cultivars).Bio-based composites are reinforced polymeric materials in which one of the matrix and reinforcement components or both are from bio-based origins. The biocomposite industry has recently drawn great attention for diverse applications, from household articles to automobiles. This is owing to their low cost, biodegradability, being lightweight, availability, and environmental concerns over synthetic and nonrenewable materials derived from limited resources like fossil fuel. The focus has slowly shifted from traditional biocomposite systems, including thermoplastic polymers reinforced with natural fibers, to more advanced systems called hybrid biocomposites. Hybridization of bio-based fibers/matrices and synthetic ones offers a new strategy to overcome the shortcomings of purely natural fibers or matrices. By incorporating two or more reinforcement types into a single composite, it is possible to not only maintain the advantages of both types but also alleviate some disadvantages of one type of reinforcement by another one.
