This paper introduces the wave interferences effects of staggering multiple rows of Periodically Permanent Magnets (PPM) in an Electromagnetic Acoustic Transducer (EMAT) configuration to achieve selective beam forming effects such as steering, focusing and de-focusing of guided ultrasonic waves. The shear horizontal (SH) guided ultrasonic wave in a metal plate was used to demonstrate these effects using numerical Finite Element Model (FEM) that were validated using experiments.Cd is a common pollutant that contaminates the ecological environment of soil-crop systems and threatens food security and human health. Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench) has a great potential for use as energy feedstock and Cd phytoremediation. Therefore, the identification of sorghum genotypes with high Cd accumulation is of great significance to Cd pollution remediation and production of bioenergy. A total of 126 biomass sorghum genotypes grown in a Cd-polluted field were investigated, and their agronomic traits were analyzed, including plant height, leaf number, shoot dry weight (SDW), soil and plant analyzer development (SPAD) value, and concentration of metal ions at seedling stage. Plant height was an important factor for screening potential biomass sorghum species because it presented a significant correlation with the Cd concentration in shoots and SDW (P less then 0.01). The highest and lowest Cd concentration in sorghum shoots were 7.88 and 0.99 mg kg-1, respectively. The Cd concentration presented a negative and significant correlation with Mn in sorghum shoots (r = -0.303, P less then 0.01), which was in agreement with the results that sorghum species with high Cd concentrations have lower Mn concentrations. In the mature stage, sorghum 12530 presented higher Cd concentration and dry weight in shoots compared with other genotypes. In summary, plant height, SDW, and concentration of Mn in sorghum shoots are critical parameters that synthetically influence the accumulation of Cd in sorghum shoots.
The objective of this study was to compare the low-priced monopolar electrocautery to the high-priced, worldwide used, plasma ablation in tonsillotomy among children aged between three and twelve years, suffering from obstructive breathing disorders (OBD), with respect to post-operative pain, bleeding and related morbidities.

A randomized case-control study was conducted in the Eye and Ear Hospital International- Lebanon. 103 children aged between three and twelve years suffering from OBD secondary to tonsillar hypertrophy were randomly assigned into two groups. Post-operative pain was evaluated using age-adequate validated scales "FLACC-R" (Face, Legs, Activity, Cry, Consolability-Revised) for children aged less than five years, and "Wong Baker faces" for older children. Additional post-operative outcomes were evaluated using Pain-PROM (Patient reported Pain-Related Outcome Measures) and TAHSI (Tonsil and Adenoid Health Status Instrument) scales.

Significantly, higher rates of patients who underwent toeding rates, but significantly lower cost, operating time, pain scores and need for analgesics.
Antigen rapid diagnostic tests (Ag-RDT) have been developed as reliable tools to control the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. The objective of our study was to evaluate the diagnostic performance of two Ag-RDTs.

We evaluated CerTest SARS-CoV-2 Ag One Step Card Test and Panbio COVID-19 Ag Rapid Test Device Ag-RDTs. We included 320 nasopharyngeal samples 150 PCR negative samples to assess the specificity and 170 PCR positive samples to evaluate the sensitivity. CPI-203 inhibitor We also evaluated their sensitivity according to cycle threshold (Ct) values and the time from the onset of symptoms. Tests were compared using the McNemar's test and agreement was evaluated using the kappa score (k).

Both Ag-RDTs showed a specificity of 100 %. Overall sensitivity was 53.5 % for CerTest and 60.0 % for Panbio. For samples with Ct≤ 25, sensitivity was 94.0 % for CerTest and 96.4 % for Panbio (p = 0.500). Regarding samples with Ct>25, sensitivity was 14.0 % for CerTest and 24.4 % for Panbio (p = 0.004). Sensitivity for samples within the first 5 days after the onset of symptoms were 84.8 % for CerTest and 91.3 % for Panbio (p = 0.250) and notably decreased for samples taken after the fifth day. Both Ag-RDTs showed an excellent agreement between them (agreement = 96.7 %, k = 0.920). Agreement with PCR was also excellent for high viral load samples (Ct<25) for CerTest (98.0 %, k = 0.954) and Panbio (98.8 %, k = 0.973).

CerTest SARS-CoV-2 and Panbio COVID-19 Ag showed excellent performance and agreement results for samples with high viral loads (Ct ≤ 25) or samples taken within the first 5 days after the onset of symptoms.

The current work explored the impact of three Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs), anthracene, pyrene and benzo[a]pyrene, applied alone or combined, on meiobenthic nematodes using both systems. The results revealed that single PAHs impacted the nematofauna similarly in closed or open systems with a higher toxicity observed for benzo[a]pyrene. However, the closed microcosms contaminated with PAHs became organically enriched, resulting in more non-selective deposit feeders and omnivores-carnivores. Taxonomic and functional effects related to combinations of PAHs were close to those of individual treatments in closed systems, however, for open ones, the outcomes were different. The caudal morphology influenced the response of taxa during their avoidance/endurance of hydrocarbons in open systems where the effects of PAHs mixtures appeared not only additive but also synergetic. Based on the results of the study, the use of open systems is preferred to closed ones as the research outcomes were more accurate and representing better conditions prevailing in nature.
