Practitioner summary Social stress in the form of negative performance feedback and social exclusion has a negative impact on the affect and self-esteem of humans. However, performance on subsequent tasks was not impaired. Abbreviations TSST trier social stress test; SSES state self-esteem scale; PANAS positive and negative affect schedule; ANOVA analysis of variance. The #MeToo movement heightened awareness of sexism in science. More recently, nationwide protests against police brutality and other expressions of systemic anti-Black racism triggered new attention to racism in science. But without an intersectional approach, the realities for Black women can be overlooked. Using my own experience as a Black female PhD student, I argue that institutional attitudes and policies can reinforce historical inequities, rather than supporting Black women who face discrimination, and I challenge scientific leaders to create equitable environments for Black women scientists.Popular culture has recently produced several "alternate histories" that describe worlds where key historical events had different outcomes. Beyond entertainment, asking "could this have happened a different way?" and "what would the consequences be?" are valuable approaches for exploring molecular mechanisms in many areas of research, including cell biology. Analogous to alternate histories, studying how the evolutionary trajectories of related organisms have been selected to provide a range of outcomes can tell us about the plasticity and potential contained within the genome of the ancestral cell. Among eukaryotes, a group of model organisms has been employed with great success to identify a core, conserved framework of proteins that segregate the duplicated cellular organelles into two daughter cells during cell division, a process known as cytokinesis. However, these organisms provide relatively sparse sampling across the broad evolutionary distances that exist, which has limited our understanding of the true potential of the ancestral eukaryotic toolkit. Recent work on the trypanosomatids, a group of eukaryotic parasites, exemplifies alternate historical routes for cytokinesis that illustrate the range of eukaryotic diversity, especially among unicellular organisms. The importance of diversity is self-evident in medicine and medical research. Not only does diversity result in more impactful scientific work, but diverse teams of researchers and clinicians are necessary to address health disparities and improve the health of underserved communities. MD/PhD programs serve an important role in training physician-scientists, so it is critical to ensure that MD/PhD students represent diverse backgrounds and experiences. Groups who are underrepresented in medicine and the biomedical sciences include individuals from certain racial and ethnic backgrounds, individuals with disabilities, individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, and women. However, underrepresented students are routinely discouraged from applying to MD/PhD programs due to a range of factors. These factors include the significant cost of applying, which can be prohibitive for many students, the paucity of diverse mentors who share common experiences, as well as applicants' perceptions that there is inadequate support and inclusion from within MD/PhD programs. By providing advice to students who are underrepresented in medicine and describing steps programs can take to recruit and support minority applicants, we hope to encourage more students to consider the MD/PhD career path that will yield a more productive and equitable scientific and medical community.
It is known that there is a high comorbidity between eating disorders and autistic traits among both the clinical and non-clinical populations. In this study, it is aimed to investigate the relationship between ASD and AN, and the effects of obsessive-compulsive traits.
The study has been conducted in a non-clinical sample. A total of 290 university students have been included.
Autism Quotient (AQ), Eating Attitudes Test (EAT) and Maudsley Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory (MOCI) have been used.
There is a positive relationship between EAT-40, MOCI scores, and AQ total scores. However, after controlling the sex and MOCI scores relation in total AQ and EAT-40 scores, they have become statistically insignificant. In regression, only MOCI scores and AQ Communication subscale scores have been able to predict the EAT-40 scores.
It has been found that the relationship between autistic traits and eating attitudes is moderated by obsessive-compulsive traits.

Since bromine as well as chlorine is an element belonging to halogen, it is expected that UV photolysis of electrochemically generated free bromine (UV/electro-bromine) also shows an advanced oxidation effect. To elucidate the feasibility of UV/electro-bromine system, its advanced oxidation mechanism was investigated using radical probes of 1,4-dioxane and nitrobenzene. In contrast to the UV/electro-chlorine system, the advanced oxidation effect of UV/electro-bromine system was inhibited under acidic conditions due to the accumulation of photochemically inert Br2. The most abundant radical in UV/electro-bromine system was dibromine radical anion (Br2˙-) and the second-order reaction rate constant of Br2˙- with 1,4-dioxane was estimated to be 2.4 × 105 M-1 s-1. As a result of the abundance and the reactivity of Br2˙-, it was the main contributor to 1,4-dioxane degradation.
