albicans).Objectives. This study aimed to assess the level of awareness, prevalence and risk factors of needle-stick and sharps injuries (NSSIs) in Tanta University Hospitals, Egypt to develop a well-established preventive strategy. Methods. A total of 662 healthcare workers (HCWs), including nurses and physicians, who attended work during the last 6 months of 2019 were included. Data were collected on a structured questionnaire distributed during their working time. Results. Of 662 participating HCWs, 486 were nurses and 176 were physicians. Good awareness (86.1 and 83.1%) of the participants about safe injection policy and sharp disposal after use was observed. Nurses showed a significantly higher percentage of poor awareness score (79.1%) than physicians (20.9%). NSSIs in our hospitals reached 60.4%. Nurses (67.9%) had higher risk of NSSIs than physicians (39.8%; p  less then  0.001). NSSIs were significantly less likely to occur for HCWs who were aware of safe injection and sharp disposal policies. NSSIs were frequent with specimen collection (16.4%), injections (15.5%) and sharp disposal (14.6%). Only 110 (27.5%) have reported their injuries. Conclusion. learn more A comprehensive program that addresses institutional, behavioral and device-related factors that contribute to the occurrence of NSSIs and reporting systems is needed. When synchronized with the light/dark cycle the circadian rhythm is termed a diurnal rhythm and this organizes an organism's daily life cycle in relation to the metabolic shifts during the day/night cycles. This is a complex task, particularly under stress conditions. Accurate maintenance of the diurnal rhythm becomes an issue under environmental extremes, such as drought due to the impairment of metabolism, redox balance, and structural integrity. In plants, the non-proteinogenic amino acid GABA accumulates to high levels in response to several stress factors but this is not always dependent on the activation of its biosynthesis. Here we propose a regulatory role to GABA during the diurnal rhythm in plants which is similar to its function in animals where it adjusts the circadian rhythm. Here we investigated whether GABA-biosynthesis was affected by drought stress during the diurnal cycle. For this, we took samples from leaves of N. tabacum plants subjected to PEG-mediated drought stress (-0.73 MPa) during the day and night cycle during a 24 hour period. Glutamate, GABA, and proline contents, along with GDH, GAD enzyme activities and transcript profiles were analyzed. Overall, we conclude that the oscillations in GABA biosynthesis during day and night cycle have an impact on drought stress responses which needs to be elucidated by further analysis.Tripterygium glycosides tablets (TGT) and Tripterygium wilfordii tablets (TWT) are the preparations of Tripterygium wilfordii used to treat rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in the clinic, but the hepatotoxicity was reported frequently. This study aimed to determine the potential toxicity mechanism of liver injury induced by the preparations of Tripterygium wilfordii in mice. Here, we performed metabolomic analysis, pathological analysis and biochemical analysis of samples from mice with liver injury induced by TGT and TWT, which revealed that liver injury was associated with bile acid metabolism disorder. Quantitative real-time PCR (QPCR) and western blot indicated that the above changes were accompanied by inhibition of farnesoid X receptor (FXR) signalling.Liver injury from TWT could be alleviated by treatment of the FXR agonist obeticholic acid (OCA) via activation of the FXR to inhibit the c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) pathway and improve bile acid metabolism disorder by activating bile salt export pump (BSEP) and organic solute-transporter-β (OSTB). The data demonstrate that FXR signalling pathway plays a key role in T. wilfordii-induced liver injury, which could be alleviated by activated FXR.These results indicate that FXR activation by OCA may offer a promising therapeutic opportunity against hepatotoxicity from the preparations of T. wilfordii.Objectives. The aim of this work is to examine the presence of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) and the exposure to psychosocial risk in a sample of 399 occupational health and safety technicians (OHSTs), deepening the associations between both aspects. Methods. The standardized Nordic questionnaire and the Decore questionnaire were used. Different descriptive and correlational analyses and a multivariate analysis model were carried out. Results. In total, 77.17% of the participants affirmed having suffered some muscle ailments. The most critical psychosocial risk factors are those related to the rewards that the worker obtains for their work, with 54.7% of the technicians in a situation of alert or emergency. It is highlighted that the fact of not feeling professionally valued, working outside working hours, having musculoskeletal discomfort and perceiving a state of poor or fair health increase the global risk index (GRI) score. Conclusions. The study highlights the high exposure of OHSTs to both physical and psychosocial risk factors as well as the significant relationship between these variables. Furthermore, the predictive model shows the variables that best predict the probability of MSDs gender, training in emerging risks, perceived health and exposure to psychosocial risk.Evolved metabolic thriftiness in humans is a proposed contributor to the obesity epidemic. Insect models have been shown to evolve both 'metabolic thrift' in response to rearing on high-protein diets that promote leanness, and 'obesity resistance' when reared on fattening high-carbohydrate, low-protein foods. Despite the hypothesis that human obesity is caused by evolved metabolic thrift, genetic contributions to this physiological trait remain elusive. Here we conducted a pilot study to determine whether thrift and obesity resistance can arise under laboratory based 'quasi-natural selection' in the genetic model organism Drosophila melanogaster. We found that both these traits can evolve within 16 generations. Contrary to predictions from the 'thrifty genotype/phenotype' hypothesis, we found that when animals from a metabolic thrift inducing high-protein environment are mismatched to fattening high-carbohydrate foods, they did not become 'obese'. Rather, they accumulate less triglyceride than control animals, not more.
