in exhibits a potent antihypertensive effect through vasodilatory properties and H2S mechanisms. Moreover, the vasodilation of allicin is partially dependent on endothelium. The endothelium-dependent vasodilation of allicin is mediated by the NO-sGC-cGMP, PGI2-AC-cAMP and EDHF pathways, of which H2S participates in the first two but not the third one. The endothelium independent vasodilation can be predominantly attributed to H2S production. With the advancement of science and technology, the living standards of human beings have continuously improved, but the incidence and mortality from atherosclerosis worldwide have also increased by year. Although interventional surgery and the continuous development of new drugs have significant therapeutic effects, their side effects cannot be ignored. Polydatin, an active ingredient isolated from the natural medicine Polygonum cuspidatum, has been shown to have a prominent role in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Polydatin treats atherosclerosis mainly from three aspects anti-inflammatory, regulating lipid metabolism and anti-oxidative stress. This article will review the pharmacological mechanism of polydatin in anti-atherosclerosis, the biological characteristics of Polygonum cuspidatum, the toxicology and pharmacokinetics of polydatin and will provide ideas for further research. In Italy, the first SARS-CoV-2 infections were diagnosed in Rome, Lazio region, at the end of January 2020, but sustained transmission occurred later, since the end of February. From 1 February to 12 April 2020, 17,164 nasopharyngeal swabs were tested by real time PCR for the presence of SARS-CoV-2 at the Laboratory of Virology of National Institute for Infectious Diseases "Lazzaro Spallanzani" (INMI) in Rome. In the same period, coincident with the winter peak of influenza and other respiratory illnesses, 847 samples were analyzed by multiplex PCR assay for the presence of common respiratory pathogens. In our study the time trend of SARS-CoV-2 and that of other respiratory pathogens in the same observation period were analysed. Overall, results obtained suggest that the spread of the pandemic SARS-CoV-2 virus did not substantially affect the time trend of other respiratory infections in our region, highlighting no significant difference in rates of SARS-CoV-2 infection in patients with or without other respiratory pathogens. read more Therefore, in the present scenario of COVID-19 pandemic, differential diagnosis resulting positive for common respiratory pathogen(s) should not exclude testing of SARS-CoV-2.Objectives This study sought to examine demographic, health, and psychosocial correlates of loneliness in Czech older adults using Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE) data. Method Study builds on secondary data analysis. Nationally representative sample of 2129 Czech older adults, aged 65 and over, were drawn from the SHARE wave 6.0. Factors included socio-demographic variables, physical health, psycho-social and subjective well-being. Descriptive statistics and ANOVA provided information about prevalence and demographic correlates of loneliness. Regression analysis was performed to examine hypothesized relationships between loneliness and health, social network measures, subjective and psychological well-being. Results Demographic variation was substantial with the sample of the Czech elderly. The widowed, divorced, and young-old were significantly related to higher loneliness. A U-shaped association was identified between household size and loneliness. Loneliness was also significantly related to education levels and types of living area, but in a complex non-linear way. In contrast, there was no gender difference. Regression results indicated that poor health conditions and social environment were significantly associated with Czech elderly's loneliness. Loneliness appeared to be linked to subjective and psychological well-being among Czech older adults. Conclusions Findings provide greater information about loneliness in population aging in the Czech society. Political and cultural initiative to promote protection against loneliness and social isolation should put forward aimed at high-risk groups of loneliness. The objective of this observational cohort study was to identify management factors associated with lamb mortality risk for sheep flocks in Prince Edward Island, Canada. Data were collected from 50 lambing groups from 36 sheep flocks during 3 farm visits before, during and after the lambing seasons in 2014-15. Variables of interest included flock management practices, ewe health indicators, ewe nutrition, litter size and lamb birth weight. Principal component analysis was performed and resulting component scores were used for further analysis using a mixed Poisson regression model with lamb mortality risk as the outcome. The median group-level lamb mortality in the first 8 weeks of life was 10.0 % (0 %-30.3 %), with 25 groups having lamb mortality greater than 10 %, which is considered higher than the standard productivity goal. Four principal component scores were retained in the final model identifying generalized factors associated with lamb mortality 1) flock factors, 2) forage factors, 3) lamb health factors, and 4) general health factors. Specifically, the following management factors were indirectly through the 4 principal components associated with lower lamb mortality using goal setting; having a strong working relationship with a veterinarian; seeking veterinary advice for animal treatment; using benzimidazole-class anthelmintics; feeding forage with high crude protein, digestible energy, and net energy for maintenance and low acid detergent fiber to late-gestation ewes; applying visual lamb identification methods; using anti-coccidial prophylactic medication to lambs; administering clostridial vaccines to lambs; avoiding separation of hypothermic lambs from their dams; and treatment/prevention of neurological and/or wasting disease. Although this study is exploratory, and confirmation is required, the results should help sheep farmers and researchers direct attention to management variables that could reduce lamb mortality in sheep flocks.
