We investigated the adiabatic compression along the axial direction of a spinning Van der Waals gas by applying theoretical analysis and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. Based on the analytical results, the rotation-induced compressibility increase effect is significant in a Van der Waals gas, while the attraction term in the Van der Waals equation of states (EOS) contributes significantly to the compressibility increase in a spinning system. We conducted MD simulations to the axial compression of a spinning gas, whose state is far from the ideal gas state, and further demonstrated that the rotation-induced compressibility increase effect in a dense state is robust, implying that such a phenomenon can be detected in experiments under high-energy-density conditions.Software products in the market are changing due to changes in business processes, technology, or new requirements from the customers. Maintainability of legacy systems has always been an inspiring task for the software companies. In order to determine whether the software requires maintainability by reverse engineering or by forward engineering approach, a system assessment was done from diverse perspectives quality, business value, type of errors, etc. In this research, the changes required in the existing software components of the legacy system were identified using a supervised learning approach. New interfaces for the software components were redesigned according to the new requirements and/or type of errors. Software maintainability was measured by applying a machine learning technique, i.e., Naïve Bayes classifier. The dataset was designed based on the observations such as component state, successful or error type in the component, line of code of error that exists in the component, component business value, and changes required for the component or not. The results generated by the Waikato Environment for Knowledge Analysis (WEKA) software confirm the effectiveness of the introduced methodology with an accuracy of 97.18%.Atherosclerosis remains a large health and economic burden. Even though it has been studied for more than a century, its complex pathophysiology has not been elucidated. The relatively well-established contributors include chronic inflammation in response to oxidized cholesterol, reactive oxygen species-induced damage and apoptosis. Recently, profilin 1, a regulator of actin dynamics emerged as a potential new player in the field. Profilin is abundant in stable atherosclerotic plaques and in thrombi extracted from infarct-related arteries in patients with acute myocardial infarction. The exact role of profilin in atherosclerosis and its complications, as well as its mechanisms of action, remain unknown. Here, we summarize several pathways in which profilin may act through mitochondria in a number of processes implicated in atherosclerosis.Candida albicans is a common commensal fungus that colonizes the oropharyngeal cavity, gastrointestinal and vaginal tract, and healthy individuals' skin. In 50% of the population, C. albicans is part of the normal flora of the microbiota. The various clinical manifestations of Candida species range from localized, superficial mucocutaneous disorders to invasive diseases that involve multiple organ systems and are life-threatening. From systemic and local to hereditary and environmental, diverse factors lead to disturbances in Candida's normal homeostasis, resulting in a transition from normal flora to pathogenic and opportunistic infections. The transition in the pathophysiology of the onset and progression of infection is also influenced by Candida's virulence traits that lead to the development of candidiasis. Oral candidiasis has a wide range of clinical manifestations, divided into primary and secondary candidiasis. The main supply of C. albicans in the body is located in the gastrointestinal tract, and the development of infections occurs due to dysbiosis of the residential microbiota, immune dysfunction, and damage to the muco-intestinal barrier. The presence of C. albicans in the blood is associated with candidemia-invasive Candida infections. The commensal relationship exists as long as there is a balance between the host immune system and the virulence factors of C. albicans. This paper presents the virulence traits of Candida albicans and clinical manifestations of specific candidiasis.Activin A receptor type 1C (ACVR1C), a type I transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) receptor, has been implicated in sensitive skin and psoriasis and is involved in the regulation of metabolic homeostasis as well as cell proliferation and differentiation. In this study, we identified a novel role of ACVR1C in the ultraviolet (UV)-irradiation-induced reduction of epidermal lipogenesis in human skin. UV irradiation decreased ACVR1C expression and epidermal triglyceride (TG) synthesis in human skin in vivo and in primary normal human epidermal keratinocytes (NHEK) in vitro. Lipogenic genes, including genes encoding acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC) and sterol regulatory element binding protein-1 (SREBP1), were significantly downregulated in UV-irradiated NHEK. ACVR1C knockdown by shRNA resulted in greater decreases in SREBP1 and ACC in response to UV irradiation. Conversely, the overexpression of ACVR1C attenuated the UV-induced decreases in SREBP1 and ACC. Simvastatin Further mechanistic study revealed that SMAD2 phosphorylation mediated the ACVR1C-induced lipogenic gene modulation. Taken together, a decrease in ACVR1C may cause UV-induced reductions in SREBP1 and ACC as well as epidermal TG synthesis via the suppression of SMAD2 phosphorylation. ACVR1C may be a target for preventing or treating UV-induced disruptions in lipid metabolism and associated skin disorders.Media devices use among children and adolescents is rapidly increasing due to the small size, which allows mobility, interactivity, and easiness to benefit from free content and applications [...].Metabolomics is a useful tool for comparing metabolite changes in plants. Because of its high sensitivity, metabolomics combined with high-resolution mass spectrometry (HR-MS) is the most widely accepted metabolomics tools. In this study, we compared the metabolites of pathogen-infected rice (Oryza sativa) with control rice using an untargeted metabolomics approach. We profiled the mass features of two rice groups using a liquid chromatography quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (QTOF-MS) system. Twelve of the most differentially induced metabolites in infected rice were selected through multivariate data analysis and identified through a mass spectral database search. The role of these compounds in metabolic pathways was finally investigated using pathway analysis. Our study showed that the most frequently induced secondary metabolites are prostanoids, a subclass of eicosanoids, which are associated with plant defense metabolism against pathogen infection. Herein, we propose a new untargeted metabolomics approach for understanding plant defense system at the metabolic level.
