Fusarium incarnatum-equiseti species complex (FIESC) strains are generally considered moderately virulent to many agricultural crops and produce a variety of mycotoxins, which represent a serious threat to food safety and public health. The occurrence of the FIESC in agricultural crops has been reported in various climatic regions, but detailed information on the species composition and toxigenic ability is rare in China. In this study, phylogenetic analyses were performed with combined sequences of EF-1a and RPB2 of 186 Fusarium isolates obtained from rice and soybean. Twelve species were identified and 156 of the isolates were resolved within the Incarnatum clade of the FIESC. Host influenced the population composition; rice isolates belonged to 12 species, among which FIESC 16, 18, and 24 were predominant; while five species were found among soybean isolates and FIESC 1, 16, and 18 dominated. Forty-three isolates were arbitrarily selected and analyzed for their Tri gene sequences and mycotoxigenic potential. Phylogenetic results based on the combined Tri5, Tri7 and Tri13 sequences were coincident with those from housekeeping markers. Type A and B trichothecenes were the main metabolites. Diacetoxyscirpenol (DAS) was detected in all strains at varying concentrations. Nivalenol (NIV), 4-acetyl nivalenol (4ANIV), 3-acetyel deoxynivalenol (3ADON), and neosolaniol (NEO) were produced in members of FIESC 1, 3, 7, 8, 15, 16, 17, and 18. Our findings contribute valuable phylogenetic and toxigenic information necessary for the risk evaluation of mycotoxins in agricultural products.Whitefly-transmitted begomoviruses cause severe diseases in numerous economically important dicotyledonous plants. In recent years, okra enation leaf curl disease (OELCuD) emerged as a serious threat to okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L. Moench) cultivation in the Indian subcontinent. The present study reports the association of a monopartite begomovirus (bhendi yellow vein mosaic virus - BYVMV) and betasatellite (bhendi yellow vein mosaic betasatellite - BYVB) with OELCuD in the Mau region of Uttar Pradesh, India. The BYVMV alone inoculated N benthamiana and A esculentus cv. Pusa Sawani plants developed mild symptoms. Co-inoculation of BYVMV and BYVB resulted in a reduced incubation period, an increased symptom severity and an enhanced BYVMV accumulation (by Southern hybridization and qPCR). This is the first study which satisfies Koch's postulates for OELCuD in its natural host. Activities of various antioxidative enzymes were significantly increased in the virus inoculated okra plants. Differential responses in various biochemical components (such as photosynthetic pigments, phenol, proline, sugar) in diseased okra plants were observed. This change in phytochemical responses is of significant importance in understanding its impact on virus pathogenesis and disease development.
Sigma metrics are commonly used to evaluate laboratory management. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the analytical performance of cystatin C using sigma metrics and to develop an individualized quality control scheme for cystatin C concentrations.
Bias was calculated based on the samples used for the external quality assessment. The coefficient of variation was calculated using six months of internal quality control measurements at two levels, and desirable specification derived from biological variation was used as the quality goal. The sigma value for cystatin C was calculated using the above data. The internal quality control scheme and improvement measures were formulated according to the Westgard sigma standards for batch size and quality goal index.

Periventricular echogenicity (PVE) potentially causes subtle damage that poses neuropsychological risk. Habituation was evaluated through heart rate and behavioral states in infants at 36-37 weeks of corrected age between control and PVE groups. PVE infants showed early alertness and abrupt changes in behavioral states. However, the comparison group could better regulate their states. Heart rate was significantly high and remained unchanged in the PVE group but decreased in the control group. Alterations during the habituation paradigm in PVE infants could be early indicators of neuropsychological risk impairment. Scope of early habituation assessment is discussed.Attenuated Total Reflection (ATR) spectroscopy coupled with a microscope allows for the analysis of specimens without any preparation, spatially correlated with the morphology of the specimen. These characteristics make micro-ATR systems very useful for studying gemstones and in particular amber samples. Indeed, in this report, the micro-ATR technique was used to characterize three Burmite samples, as case studies. Particularly, focusing the ATR crystal spot on the amber surface where a difference in the Ultraviolet (UV) reaction was previously detected, thereby relative differences in the IR spectrum could be analyzed. Here we present a methodology combining the UV imaging technique with the micro-Attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (micro-ATR/FT-IR) analyses, in order to correlate the fluorescence information with the molecular vibrational modes of amber and their relative spatial distribution.
