Instead, this paper seeks to make four points while outlining the FHH argument consumer medicine and false hope are connected; providers and patients are very vulnerable in the system of consumer medicine; providers have a responsibility to stand up against false hope; and how the FHH argument could perhaps offer a footing to resist giving in to false hope. © 2020 The Authors. Herein, a fundamental investigation of unfolding intrinsically superior edge-ND trapped atomic Fe motifs (e-ND-Fe) relative to an intact center model (c-ND-Fe) in ORR electrocatalysis is reported. Density functional theory calculations reveal that local electronic redistribution and bandgap shrinkage for e-ND-Fe endow it with a lower free-energy barrier toward direct four-electron ORR. Inspired by this, a series of atomic Fe catalysts with adjustable ND-Fe coordination are synthesized, which verify that ORR performance highly depends on the concentration of e-ND-Fe species. Remarkably, the best e-ND-Fe catalyst delivers a favorable kinetic current density and halfwave potential that can be comparable to benchmark Pt-C under acidic conditions. This work will guide to develop highly active atomic metal catalysts through rational defect engineering. © 2020 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. We review the spectrum of LSD and associated clinical findings in NIHF in a cohort of patients referred to our institution. METHODS We present a retrospective case-control study of cases with NIHF referred for LSD biochemical testing at a single center. Cases diagnosed with LSD were matched to controls with NIHF and negative LSD testing and analyzed according to the STROBE criteria to the extent the retrospective nature of this study allowed. RESULTS Between January 2006 and December 2018, 28 patients with NIHF were diagnosed with a LSD. Eight types of LSD were diagnosed galactosialidosis 8/28 (28.6%), sialic acid storage disease (SASD) 5/28 (17.9%), mucopolysaccharidosis VII 5/28 (17.9%), Gaucher 4/28 (14.3%), sialidosis 2/28 (7.1%), GM1 gangliosidosis 2/28 (7.1%), Niemann-Pick disease type C 1/28 (3.6%), and mucolipidosis II/III 1/28 (3.6%). Associated clinical features were hepatomegaly 16/21 (76.2%) vs 22/65 (33.8%), P less then .05, splenomegaly 12/20 (60.0%) vs 14/58 (24.1%), P less then .05, and hepatosplenomegaly 10/20 (50.0%) vs 13/58 (22.4%) P less then .05. CONCLUSION The most common LSD in NIHF were galactosialidosis, SASD, mucopolysaccharidosis VII, and Gaucher disease. LSD should be considered in unexplained NIHF cases, particularly if hepatomegaly, splenomegaly, or hepatosplenomegaly is visualized on prenatal ultrasound. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.INTRODUCTION Objective information on longitudinal disease progression in inclusion body myositis (IBM) is lacking. METHODS Longitudinal dynamometry and functional status data were collated from a cohort of IBM patients. Annual change was calculated by means of linear modeling. Trajectories of change in grip, knee extension, IBM Functional Rating Scale (IBM-FRS) and Neuromuscular Symptom Score (NSS) were identified by means of latent growth mixture modeling. RESULTS Data were collated from 75 IBM patients (348 person-years follow-up). Annual strength loss was greatest for pinch (-10%) and knee extension (-4%). Functional deterioration was greatest for males. Three distinct trajectory groups were identified. Rapid deterioration trajectory for grip strength was associated with younger diagnosis age. Rapid deterioration for knee extension strength was associated with older age of diagnosis. DISCUSSION This study has quantified strength change in IBM and identified distinct trajectory groups, which will aid prognostication and stratification for inclusion into future clinical trials. © 2020 The Authors. The current study compared transgender and cisgender individuals' cancer prevalence and described the health needs of transgender cancer survivors. METHODS The authors used Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System data on 95,800 cisgender and transgender individuals who self-reported a cancer diagnosis. Using multiple logistic regression, they estimated cancer prevalence and calculated odds ratios with 95% confidence intervals of physical, psychological, overall health, and health behaviors of transgender survivors compared with cisgender survivors. RESULTS After adjusting for confounders, transgender men had a significantly higher (>2-fold) number of cancer diagnoses compared with cisgender men, but not cisgender women. Cancer prevalence among gender nonconforming individuals and transgender women was not significantly different from that of cisgender men and cisgender women.sgender women. © 2020 American Cancer Society.During fingerprint comparisons, a latent print examiner visually compares two impressions to determine whether or not they originated from the same source. They consider the amount of perceived detail in agreement or disagreement and accumulate evidence toward same source and different sources propositions. This evidence is then mapped to one of three conclusions Identification, Inconclusive, or Exclusion. A limitation of this 3-conclusion scale is it can lose information when translating the conclusion from the internal strength-of-evidence value to one of only three possible conclusions. An alternative scale with two additional values, support for different sources and support for common sources, has been proposed by the Friction Ridge Subcommittee of OSAC. GSK1210151A The expanded scale could lead to more investigative leads but could produce complex trade-offs in both correct and erroneous identifications. The aim of the present study was to determine the consequences of a shift to expanded conclusion scales in latent print comparisons.
