Although lipid nanodiscs are increasingly used in the structural studies of membrane proteins, drug delivery and other applications, the interaction between the nanodisc belt and the protein to be reconstituted is a major limitation. To overcome this limitation and to further broaden the scope of nanodiscs, a family of non-ionic amphiphilic polymers synthesized by hydrophobic functionalization of fructo-oligosaccharides/inulin is reported. We show the stability of lipid nanodiscs formed by these polymers against pH and divalent metal ions, and their magnetic-alignment properties. The reported results also demonstrate that the non-ionic polymers extract membrane proteins with unprecedented efficiency.
The study aim was to map clinical characteristics and the evolution of pregnancies in pregnant women with confirmed diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 infection.
Searching four databases, studies were investigated that described the evolution of pregnancies in women diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 infection through laboratory tests. A scoping review was undertaken, including 35 articles published in English. Two pairs of independent researchers synthesized the data.
Most studies were case studies or case series and had a low risk of bias. A predominance of cases was found in women over the age of 30 years who got infected in the third term of pregnancy and who had comorbidities. The prematurity index varied with the heterogeneity of the samples, and the cases of abortion occurred in combination with severe forms of infection. To evaluate the frequency of complications and factors associated with the recurrence of endometriosis in women with deep infiltrating endometriosis (DIE) undergoing surgical treatment.
A retrospective observational cohort study with 72 women who underwent surgery and followed up by DIE at the University of Campinas from 2007 to 2017. The variables analyzed were clinical characteristics, use and type of drug treatment before and after surgery, operative time and complications inherent to the procedure, as well as the recurrence of lesions on imaging.
The mean age of women was 39.7 ± 6.3 years and the mean follow-up was 4.56 ± 2.60 years. Complications were reported in 16.6% of surgeries and recurrence of lesions in 34.7%. The risk of intraoperative complications was higher in the presence of lesions of the bowel and in those who used intramuscular progestin before surgery. A higher risk of recurrence was observed among those who did not use hormonal treatment or used a levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine device (LNG-IUD) in the postoperative period.

This study aimed to evaluate the parents' willingness and attitudes concerning the COVID-19 vaccine.
This cross-sectional study was performed using a self-administered online survey, covering parents' and their children's characteristics, parents' willingness and attitudes towards the COVID-19 vaccine. A total of 1035 parents participated.
Analysis showed that 36.3% of parents were willing to have their children receive the COVID-19 vaccine and that 59.9% were willing to receive it themselves. In addition, 83.9% were willing to have their children vaccinated with the COVID-19 vaccine if the mortality rates associated with COVID-19 in children increased following a mutation. After adjusting for significant variables, willingness to receive the COVID-19 vaccine (AOR=24.91; 95% CI=10.93-56.76), willingness for their children to participate in a COVID-19 vaccine trial (AOR=11.87; 95% CI=2.41-58.40] and advising others to receive the COVID-19 vaccine [AOR=7.82; 95% CI=2.50-24.49] were associated with greater parents' willingness for their children to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

An increasing number of genetic abnormalities have been shown to cause spermatogenic impairment with the development of microarray technologies and next-generation sequencing (NGS), moving beyond classical karyotype and polymerase chain reaction analyses of targeted genes. However, the majority of gene mutations, such as Klinefelter syndrome, azoospermia factor microdeletion, or congenital bilateral absence of the vas deferens, fail to function in a one gene-one phenotype manner. Single-cell transcriptome analysis performed using human testicular samples has begun to be published, which has brought about a more comprehensive understanding of testicular pathology. NGS also enables omics approaches, which provide more powerful tools to interrogate the genome, epigenome, transcriptome, and proteome. Simultaneously, the involvement of environmental factors and comorbidities, which may potentially regulate epigenetic factors, has been shown, resulting in a more complex understanding of the pathophysiology of spermatic disorders, especially NOA.
