Only six studies in the general population were on third generation incinerators providing data on pregnancy outcomes and congenital anomalies. Given the heterogeneity of methods, the abundance of ecological/semi-ecological studies and the lack of reliable quantitative measures of exposure in several studies we did not perform any meta-analysis. No excesses emerged concerning all cancers and lung cancer. An excess of non-Hodgkin lymphoma wahey were modest at most. Additional monitoring of third generation plants needs to overcome methodological weaknesses. One of the most challenging environmental issues in arid regions is radionuclide groundwater contamination; typically, radionuclide sources, mobility, and spatial distributions are not well understood. The main objectives of this study are to investigate the groundwater hydrochemistry and identify the factors governing the radium occurrences and mobility. Groundwater samples were collected from shallow unconfined zone and deep confined Saq sandstone aquifer in the Hail area, Saudi Arabia. They were analyzed for major, minor, and trace elements as well as radium isotopes (226Ra and 228Ra). The hydrochemical relationships, water facies, spatial distribution, and the factor analysis were integrated to elucidate the governing processes in the system. The hydrochemical facies exhibited four water types characterized by earth alkaline and alkaline elements. Most samples contained sulfates and chlorides. The hydrochemical processes affecting groundwater included the dissolution of certain minerals, mixing between mog on the redox potential values, the primary source distribution, and enrichment in 226Ra relative to 228Ra. Five major factors influencing groundwater hydrochemistry were identified using factor analysis. The first factor explained the processes resulting in the dissolution of the silicate minerals and thereby increased the uranium mobility. Dorsomorphin The second factor encompassed processes leading to a rise in the groundwater salinity. The third factor identified thorium minerals as the source of the 228Ra. The fourth factor was ascribed to the decrease in radium through sorption processes or co-precipitation with barite. The fifth factor referred to by the uneven distribution of Th and U containing minerals in the aquifer. The use of strategic noise maps as a means for estimating population exposure to environmental noise and defining action plans to mitigate its effects on human health has become a reality since the publication of the European Noise Directive. In this context, it is known that some differences can be found between the values obtained for sound indicators through simulation and measurements due to different causes. One of these factors is the presence of elements in urban environments not currently considered in calculation methods but certainly present in validation measurements. This paper presents an assessment of the acoustic shielding effect due to parked vehicles on urban streets using computational methods. First of all, a process of validation of the software model by means of different simulation methods and in situ measurements was carried out. Then, a study was developed varying different variables related to urban planning and noise modelling, as well as considering different typologies of real streets according to a categorisation method. Broadband results show that this shielding effect can be significant in common configurations in urban environments, even to receiver heights of 4 m considered as a reference in strategic noise maps. The magnitude of this effect varied depending on the distances between the building façade, parked vehicles and sound sources, as well as the receiver height. Differences up to 4 dBA in sound levels were found in several configurations between situations without and with cars parked at 4 m, although in some specific cases it reached up to 8 dBA. Therefore, results of this study indicated that parking lane shielding effect should be considered in calculations and validation measurements for strategic noise maps in order to obtain an adequate estimation of population exposure to road traffic noise. In recent years, pollution by heavy metals (HM) has become an increasingly serious problem in forest ecosystems, making their remediation a primary research focus in China. Poplars are ideal candidates for phytoremediation because of their great commercial value, ability to produce large biomass, and high capacity for HM uptake. The individual and combined effects of copper (Cu) and lead (Pb) on Populus yunnanensis growth and physiology were tested for both male and female potted plants in four treatment groups control, Pb only (1,000 mg kg-1 PbAc dry soil), Cu only (400 mg kg-1 CuSO4·5H2O dry soil), and combined Pb and Cu. Each treatment group contained 25 male and 25 female individuals. The experimental duration was 3 months. Compared with the control plants, the Cu and Pb treatment groups experienced reduced leaf, stem, root, and total biomass for both sexes, but the impact on growth rate was more severe in females than in males. The cellular ultrastructure of leaves was extensively damaged in both male and female trees but was more severely damaged in females.
