We also explored and identified relevant factors associated with these metrics. We collected data regarding the sociodemographic and injury characteristics of 69 caregivers and their survivors. Their responses were recorded to the Caregiver Burden Scale (CBS), Impact of Events Scale for Burn (IESB), and Short Form-36 questionnaires. Temporal changes in the CBS, IESB, and SF-36 scores and their differences were analyzed using the generalized estimating equation. Among the caregivers of children, QoL decreased with increasing children's total burn surface area (TBSA) and length of hospital stays, caregivers being female, decreasing caregivers' age, increasing the time required to travel to and from the hospital, and increasing global and subjective burdens. Among the caregivers of adults, QoL decreased with increasing survivors' TBSA and caregivers' PTSD. Based on these results, several recommendations for implementation in clinical practice include integrating caregivers into care plans and encouraging active participation, providing learning and consultation channels, and encouraging caregivers to schedule breaks from caregiving activities.
Nurses of burn departments play a vital role in caring for and rehabilitating burn patients. However, the situation of nurses in burn departments is seldomly reported. The current study aims to identify the status and influencing factors of nurses in burn departments' core competencies nationwide.

This is a cross-sectional and multicenter study. Purposive sampling was used to recruit registered nurses who worked in burn departments of 12 tertiary hospitals in Mainland China. We issued an online survey including structured questionnaires consisting of socio-demographic information and the Self-rating Scale for Core Competencies.

Totally 267 nurses in burn departments participated in our study. Professional title, length of employment and experiences in burn intensive care units (BICUs) were influencing factors of NBDs' core competencies (P<0.05), explaining 21.0% of the total variance.

Moreover, this study highlights that nursing administrators and educators should promote the specialized knowledge and skills, teaching skills and critical thinking of nurses in burn departments.

The aim of this study was to evaluate handgrip and finger flexion strength (HGFS) as functional marker for disease progression in children with neuromuscular disorders (NMD) and present normative data in a paediatric healthy cohort.

We applied the fixed hand and finger dynamometer HFD 200 to assess HGFS under standardised, isometric and biomechanical conditions. In our cross-sectional study HGFS was analysed in n=233 paediatric healthy controls (HC) and a cohort of n=33 children with NMD between five and 18years. In seven children with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), HGFS were assessed prior to and under treatment with nusinersen over a two months period. HGFS of children with NMD was correlated with respiratory parameters, anthropometric data, hand function and motor scores.

Patients with NMD exhibited a heterogenous HGFS pattern. HGFS was lower than in HC (p<0.001). Children with SMA gained a significant increase in strength after two months of treatment (p<0.05, r=0.75-0.9).

HGFS is a sensitive functional marker in paediatric NMD to identify minimal changes in distal muscle strength. HGFS may evolve as a sensitive outcome measure to monitor upcoming therapeutic interventions in particular for non-ambulant patients with NMD.

We have evaluated a portable mass spectrometer as a possible surveillance platform by analyzing the clinical malaria samples (whole blood) collected from Ghana. We synthesized pH-sensitive ionic probes and coupled them with monoclonal antibodies specific to the Plasmodium falciparum histidine-rich protein 2 (PfHRP2) malaria antigen. We then used the antibody-ionic probe conjugates in a paper-based immunoassay to capture PfHRP2 antigen from untreated whole blood. After the immunoassay, the bound ionic probes were cleaved, and the released mass tags were analyzed through an on-chip paper spray mass spectrometry strategy. During process optimization, we determined the detection limit for PfHRP2 in untreated human serum to be 0.216 nmol/L when using the miniature mass spectrometer. This sensitivity is comparable to the World Health Organization's suggested threshold of 0.227 nmol/L for PfHRP2, proving that our method will be applicable to diagnose symptomatic malaria infection (≥200 parasites per μL blood). The paper device can be stored at room temperature for at least 25 days without affecting the clinical outcome, with each stored paper chip offering good repeatability and reproducibility (RSD = 4-12%). The stability and sensitivity of the developed paper-based immunoassay platform will allow miniature mass spectrometers to be used for point-of-care malaria detection as well as in large-scale surveillance screening to aid eradication programs.

Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (Years 2012 to 2015) respondents for longitudinal panels 17 to 19 who participated in all 5 rounds were at least 18 years of age, did not have cancer, and reported back or neck pain. We defined chiropractic users as participants reporting at least 1 chiropractic visit for back or neck pain and opioid users as participants reporting purchase or receipt of a prescription classified as Multum Lexicon "60" and "191" for back or neck pain. We adjusted for socioeconomic and clinical variables using multiple logistic regression.

The sample contained 4686 people, 21% of whom reported an opioid prescription for back or neck pain. Among opioid users, 14% reported a chiropractic visit for back or neck pain compared to 31% of nonopioid users. The adjusted odds ratio for chiropractic use among opioid users compared to nonopioid users was 0.46 (95% confidence interval, 0.36-0.57).

Inactivated viruses as well as vaccines focused on the partial or total sequence of the Spike protein using different novel platforms such us RNA, DNA, proteins, and non-replicating viral vectors have been developed. The high global need for vaccines, now and in the future, and the emergence of new variants of concern still requires development of accessible vaccines that can be adapted according to the most prevalent variants in the respective regions. Here, we describe the immunogenic properties of a group of theoretically predicted RBD peptides to be used as the first step towards the development of an effective, safe and low-cost epitope-focused vaccine. One of the tested peptides named P5, proved to be safe and immunogenic. Subcutaneous administration of the peptide, formulated with alumina, induced high levels of specific IgG antibodies in mice and hamsters, as well as an increase of IFN-γ expression by CD8+ T cells in C57 and BALB/c mice upon in vitro stimulation with P5. Neutralizing titers of anti-P5 antibodies, however, were disappointingly low, a deficiency that we will attempt to resolve by the inclusion of additional immunogenic epitopes to P5. We present findings from an early warning rapid surveillance system in three large commercial insurance databases including more than 16 million vaccinated individuals.
