Thorium-227 (227Th) is a long-lived (T1/2 = 18.7 d) α-emitter that has emerged as candidate for radioimmunotherapy. Imaging of patients treated with thorium-227 conjugates is challenging due to the low activity administered and to photon emissions with low yields. In addition, the radioactive daughter radium-223 (223Ra) have photon emissions in the same energy range as 227Th. Selleck Eganelisib The long half-life of 223Ra (T1/2 = 11.4 d) and the possibility of redistribution motivates efforts to separate 227Th and 223Ra. The aim of this study was to investigate the feasibility of imaging of patients treated with 227Th-labeled monoclonal antibody (mAb) and to determine acquisition and image processing parameters to enable discrimination between 227Th and 223Ra. Imaging was performed with a GE Discovery 670 NM/CT gamma camera. Radionuclide separation with different energy windows (EW) and collimators was studied in images of vials with either 227Th or 223Ra. Phantom acquisitions with clinically relevant activities were performed ws (1) 70-100 keV (227Th and 223Ra); (2) 215-260 keV (227Th); (3) 260-290 keV (223Ra); (4) 350-420 keV (223Ra).Workplace stress management is a growing problem that can have significant mental health and financial impact for workers and their employers. There is a growing body of evidence supporting the efficacy of Virtual Reality (VR) treatments for stress and anxiety, however no reviews of VR to date have looked specifically into the use of VR for this purpose in the workplace. This scoping review aimed to identify available evidence in this environment (i.e., workplace) and investigate whether using VR might reduce workplace stress levels. The academic databases, CINAHL, Medline, Proquest, PsychINFO, PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science, were searched using terms focused on VR, stress or relaxation, and workplaces. Results from the articles reviewed demonstrate a wide variety of study designs and techniques, with a general indication that the interventions reduce stress. Commonalities, differences, and levels of workplace focus are examined. Areas for future studies are highlighted, and the importance of the unique contribution VR can make to stress management in the workplace is identified as a gap in the research to be filled.Detecting bacteria in samples and differentiating between Gram-negative and Gram-positive species is an important challenge, and the most common method, Gram staining, is very time consuming. The aim of this study was to evaluate the electrical bioimpedance spectroscopy (EBIS) technique as an inexpensive and practical tool for real-time detection of bacteria and differentiation between Gram-positive and Gram-negative species. The relevant sensitivity for differentiating between species was found in the magnitude and phase at frequencies of 158,489 and 5248 Hz, respectively, at a bacterial concentration of 1 μg/μl. Subsequently, the sensitivity was estimated as a function of bacterial concentration. Our results demonstrated that EBIS can potentially distinguish between presence and absence of bacteria as well as between different types of bacteria. Objectives Facial muscle activity is crucial to controlling musical performance in wind instrument playing. Facial muscle dysfunctions are common in wind instrument players, dramatically affecting their professional musical activity and potentially leading to disabling symptoms. The aim of this pilot study on a cohort of healthy clarinetists was to use surface electromyography to identify the facial muscle activity patterns involved in stabilizing the mouthpiece, controlling emission and articulation during musical tasks in physiological conditions, also comparing muscle activity between less and more experienced clarinetists (students vs postgraduates/professionals). Methods Surface electromyographic measures of the sternocleidomastoid, masseter, mentalis, mylohyoid and buccinator muscles were obtained from eight healthy clarinet players (four students and four postgraduates/professionals) performing two standardized musical tasks. Results Overall, mean IEMG activity was significantly lower for the sternocleidomastoid than for the other muscles (P = .000), and for the mouthpiece-stabilizing muscles (masseter and mentalis) than for those directly involved in controlling emission and articulation (buccinator and mylohyoid muscles) (P = .000). Regardless of the musical task, the mean IEMG values were significantly higher in the students for the masseter (P = .0007), buccinator (P = .0001) and mylohyoid (0.000), while they were significantly higher in the postgraduates/professionals for the mentalis (P = .000). No significant differences emerged between the two groups for the sternocleidomastoid (P = .207). Conclusions These preliminary data reflect a significantly higher overall facial muscle activity in the less-experienced group, potentially resulting in an overload, whereas the more expert players had more optimized muscle activity patterns. Background Patients with heart failure (HF) have multiple co-existing comorbidities. The temporal trends in the burden of comorbidities and associated risk of mortality among patients with HF with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) and HF with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) are not well-established. Methods HF related hospitalizations were sampled by stratified design from four US areas in 2005 to 2014 by the community surveillance component of the ARIC (Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities) study. Acute decompensated HF was classified by standardized physician review and a previously validated algorithm. An ejection fraction less then 50% was considered HFrEF. A total of 15 co-morbidities were abstracted from the medical record. Mortality outcomes were ascertained for up to 1-year post-admission, by linking hospital records with death files. Results A total of 5,460 hospitalizations (24,937 weighted hospitalizations) classified as acute decompensated HF had available ejection fraction data (53% female, 6sions The burden of comorbidities among hospitalized patients with acute decompensated HFpEF and HFrEF has increased over time, as has its associated mortality risk. Higher burden of comorbidities is associated with higher risk of mortality, with a stronger association noted among patients with HFpEF vs. HFrEF.
