5%) and quality (35.0%),and 64.1% worsened quality of life.A statistically significant relationship with all mental health outcomes considered was found for women vs. men (multivariate odds ratio,OR between 1.13 and 1.63), for current vs. never smokers (OR between 1.15 and 1.25), and with increasing physical activity (p for trend<0.001 for all the indicators). The use of at least one psychotropic drug increased by 20% compared to pre-lockdown (from 9.5% to 11.4%).
This is the first cross-sectional study conducted in Italy on a representative sample of adults to testify the huge implications of the lockdown on mental health.
This is the first cross-sectional study conducted in Italy on a representative sample of adults to testify the huge implications of the lockdown on mental health.Research on the relations between irritability and suicidality among adults has rarely compared or differentiated between tonic versus phasic irritability. The current cross-sectional study investigated the role of both tonic and phasic irritability in relation to lifetime suicidal ideation, plans, and attempts. The study included adult participants who completed the suicidality module from the National Comorbidity Survey - Replication (NCS-R) (N = 7683 for suicidal ideation and N = 1223 for suicidal plan and attempt). The NCS-R used lay-administered, standardized diagnostic interviews. Phasic and tonic irritability were assessed with individual screener items from the World Health Organization Composite International Diagnostic Interviews (CIDI). The current study used logistic regression, weighted Cox proportional hazard model, and multinomial logit regression, adjusting for sex, race/ethnicity, age, education, and marital status. Both types of irritability were included simultaneously in the models. Results indicated that both types of irritability were significantly associated with increased odds of suicidal ideation (phasic Odds Ratio 2.72 [2.35,3.14]); tonic OR 2.34 [2.04,2.68]), age of first-time suicidal ideation (phasic Adjusted Hazard Ratio 2.87 [2.27, 3.63]; tonic AHR 2.12 [1.76,2.54]), and suicide attempt (phasic OR 1.53 [1.13,2.07]); tonic OR 1.44 [1.11,1.89]). MK8776 Only tonic but not phasic irritability was associated with suicide plans (OR 1.39 [1.08,1.79]). When suicide attempts were divided into those that were impulsive versus planned and compared them to no suicide attempt, both types of irritability were associated planned attempts, (phasic OR 1.53 [1.13,2.07]); tonic OR 1.44 [1.11,1.89]) but only phasic irritability was related to impulsive attempts (OR 1.70 [1.10,2.64]). Phasic and tonic irritability show differential relations to and can serve as differential markers for suicide-related outcomes in adults. Background Infertility is associated with increased anxiety, depressive symptoms and mood disorders. Unfortunately, mental health is not often addressed in infertility treatment and infertile patients could be at higher risk of self-administration of not prescribed drugs or/and be exposed to alternative emotional treatments. Therefore, the aim of the present study is to investigate the use of psychotropic medication and to evaluate the frequency of psychiatric diagnosis among infertile women seeking assisted reproductive technology (ART) therapy. Methods All infertile women starting treatment at an ART clinic who agreed to participate in the study were included. Patients were submitted to a structured psychiatric interview, the Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview (M.I.N.I.). Current and lifetime use of psychotropic medication were assessed. Results Ninety patients who agreed to participate completed the research protocol. A total of 12/90 were on current use of psychotropic medication.Thirty-six out of ninety patients had at least one psychiatric disorder. Mood disorders were detected in 19 of the 90. Anxiety disorders were highly frequent, reaching 27/90 of the patients, as agoraphobia the most common diagnosis (12/90). Limitations The study has several limitations, such as the absence of a control group of fertile patients and strict inclusion criteria, in which only subjects that spontaneously agreed to participate were enrolled. Conclusion Women suffering from infertility seeking ART treatment are at high risk for depression and anxiety disorders and a considerable number of them are in use of medication. Its implications on infertility treatments and offspring are uncertain.
Personal recovery, living a satisfying, hopeful life alongside symptoms, has become an increasingly valued aim across mental health care agendas internationally. However, there is little understanding of how people experience personal recovery alongside the mood challenges characteristic of a bipolar disorder diagnosis. Personal recovery frameworks have been developed for populations with mixed psychiatric diagnoses, predominantly psychotic disorders.
This systematic review of qualitative data used the widely adopted personal recovery processes Connectedness, Hope and optimism, Identity, Meaning and purpose, Empowerment (CHIME) in a "best fit" framework synthesis to understand personal recovery experiences in bipolar disorder. Included studies were coded with deductive framework analysis based on the CHIME processes and inductive thematic analysis for aspects beyond the a priori framework.
A comprehensive search of six literature databases led to inclusion of twelve articles published 2010-2020. Deductiintroduce personal recovery in a realistic and balanced way to address recent criticism by service user organisations of personal recovery as overly optimistic.
Obesity is a major public health issue. This present study aims to verify the relationship between metabolically healthy obesity (MHO) and suicidal thoughts.
Data were collected from a total of 299,594 medical checkup recipients. Frequency analysis and descriptive statistics were used to analyze participants' general characteristics. To analyze the relationship between metabolic phenotype and suicidal ideation, we computed the cross-ratios after compensating for age, depression, and insomnia by using multivariate logistics regression analysis.
In an analysis of metabolic phenotype, suicidal thoughts were found to have decreased for moderate waist circumference (74.0-79.1cm) for women who were >40 years old in the metabolically healthy (MH) group. In contrast, although severe abdominal obesity was associated with increased suicide risk, it was not found to be significantly related to suicide risk when considered together with emotional difficulties such as depression.
This study used only self-report test was conducted to evaluate emotional problems.
