PAPER COPY DUE LAST DAY OF CLASS.
Overview
The goal of the final project is to take you out of the classroom and into the field. By venturing out you will be able to take the anthropological knowledge you have gained this semester and apply it to a real-life setting. Once you are in the field you will be collecting your own data. You must tie together your own research findings with at least three academic and/or news article sources in a 4 page write up and then present your findings.
This final paper is a total of 100 points. The paper is 80 and your presentation is 20.
Paper Ideas and Options:
Food:
Go to an ethnic restaurant and order a dish you have not had before. Record what the restaurant is like, what types of foods are present on the menu and your overall experience. Record anything you observe that may be indicative of the culture and origin of the restaurant and how it differs from typical American dining.
Sex and Gender:
Interview a person of the opposite sex or whose gender identity is different than your own. This can be a friend or a relative. Draw up specific questions that will give you some insight into their lived experience. Questions such as: Does this person’s sex or gender affect how they live their daily lives? Does this person abide by the typical gender roles set forth by our society? If so, how? If not, how do they navigate situations that may place them in challenging positions? Do they ever face any discrimination because of their sex or gender identity?
Religion:
Attend a religious ceremony or event or interview people of another religion. Give a detailed description of this event. Try to observe what the event means to those in attendance and how it reflects the attendee’s culture. Try to think about questions such as: Does their lifestyle reflect this belief system? Does this religion dictate any lifestyle requirements such as restrictions on food or dress? How does this religion affect the family? Marriage, kinship and so on.
Paper Guidelines

Choose your topic and write out specific questions that you would like to answer from your experience in the field. This will be collecting your data.
Organize your findings. Once you have done this, you must research online or in the library for at least three articles that are related to your topic (NO WIKIPEDIA). These articles must either support or challenge your findings. You must cite these sources.
Organize your paper as follows:
Introduce your topic and what your research process was.
Report your own findings
Give an overview of the articles you chose (this is called a literature review).
Relate your own findings to your chosen article.
Your paper must be a 4 page essay outlining your research and supporting articles.
Your paper must be double-spaced, 12 point font.
You must have a cover page and a works cited page (APA format) See my guidelines posted on CANVAS.
