Proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) is a leading cause of blindness. This study aimed to analyze the expression of the erythropoietin receptor (EpoR) in patients with PDR and its correlation with postoperative visual prognosis.
Between May 2016 and May 2017, 89 patients who underwent vitreoretinal surgery (VRS) in Affiliated Hospital of North Sichuan Medical College were enrolled. Among them, 45 patients (52 eyes) with PDR and 44 patients (50 eyes) with retinal vein occlusion (RVO) made up the study group and the control group, respectively. All patients received 25G standard flattened three-channel lens-preserving VRS; all procedures were performed by the same physician. Recovery and change in best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) were observed. Subsequently, the patients were divided into group A (improved vision) and group B (no improvement in vision). The integrated optical density (IOD) value of EpoR expression among the groups were compared. Pearson's correlation analysis was used to analyze the evel in PDR patients. The expression level of EpoR in the epiretinal membrane of PDR patients is positively correlated with the prognosis of postoperative vision. Therefore, EpoR has promise as a prognostic biomarker and a potential therapeutic target for PDR.
Combination of aspirin (ASA) and clopidogrel (CLP) [dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT)] has been limited in reducing early recurrent stroke events. Xuesaitong injection (lyophilized) (XST) made of total saponins from P. notoginseng, which significantly improves cerebral circulation and has been widely used in clinical applications for decades to treat and prevent ischemic stroke. Here, we confirmed the protective effect and mechanism of XST combined with DAPT (XST+ASA+CLP) on cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury, exploring their better pharmacological action for clinical patients.
Sprague-Dawley rats (SD rats) (n=9 in each group) were randomly assigned to three groups and pretreated with XST, ASA+CLP, or XST+ASA+CLP for 7 days. Then rats were subjected to 2 h of middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) followed by reperfusion for 24 h. Selleckchem APG-2449 Therapeutic effect of XST+ASA+CLP was measured by infarct volume, neurological behavior and regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF). Inhibition of neuronal apoptosis and glial celtheoretical basis and experimental evidence for the rationality of clinical combined use of drugs in the treatment of ischemic stroke.
These results demonstrate that a combination of XST, ASA, and CLP effectively protected rats against middle cerebral artery occlusion/reperfusion (MCAO/R) injury by suppressing the NOX2/IL-6/ STAT3 pathway. These novel findings provide theoretical basis and experimental evidence for the rationality of clinical combined use of drugs in the treatment of ischemic stroke.
Treatment of exposed steel plates after surgery for foot and ankle fractures is complicated. This study aims to analyze the effects of microsurgical repair treatment on the clinical efficacy, complications, and flap follow-up scores of patients with exposed steel plates following foot and ankle fracture surgery.
Eighty-two patients with exposure of steel plates after surgical treatment for foot and ankle fractures in our hospital from March 2017 to March 2018 were included in this study. The patients were divided into a study group (43 patients who received microsurgical repair) and a control group (39 patients who received conventional repair surgery). We compared the clinical efficacy, complication rate, flap followup score, recovery of ankle-hindfoot function and ankle function before treatment and at 3 and 6 months after treatment, and patient satisfaction between the two groups.
The clinical effectiveness rate in the study group was 95.35%, which was higher than the control group (76.92%) (P<0.0eel plates after surgery for foot and ankle fractures has a significant clinical effect. It can improve the flap follow-up scores, accelerate healing of the ankle, improve aesthetics, and reduce the incidence of complications. It is therefore worthy of widespread use in clinics.
The Angong Niuhuang pill (ANP) has been widely used in the adjuvant treatment of patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI). However, the efficacy and adverse reactions of this drug are controversial. In this study, it was aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of ANP on patients with TBI by a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs).
PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Chinese Biomedicine Database (CBM), China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Chinese Scientific Journals Database (VIP), and Wangfang databases were systematically searched from their establishment until June 2020. RCTs of ANP treating TBI were enrolled. Odds risk (OR) was used to assess the total effective rate and safety and mean difference (MD) and 95% confidence interval (CI) were used to assess the quantitative data. Tthe included literature's quality was evaluated by RevMan 5.3. The sensitivity and publication bias was evaluated by Stata 16.0.
Twelve studies were identified in this sysre required to determine the safety and effectiveness of ANP adjuvant therapy.
In recent years, immunonutrition has been introduced and proposed to have a positive modulatory effect on inflammatory and immune responses and gut function for surgical patients, especially for patients undergoing gastrointestinal cancer resection. We conducted this parallel-group, randomized and double-blind clinical controlled trial to investigate the efficacy of perioperative enteral immunonutrition (EIN) on clinical and immunological outcomes of patients undergoing esophageal resection.
A randomized, parallel-group, double-blind, clinical trial was conducted between December 1, 2017 and March 1, 2018. This study enrolled 120 patients with esophageal cancer. And 112 patients were divided into two groups randomly EIN group and enteral nutrition (EN) group. The EIN contained extra immunonutritional substrates, including a consistent combination of arginine, RNA and the omega-3 fatty acids compared with EN. Immune indicators were measured at preoperative day 7, postoperative day (POD) 1, 3, 7 and post-discharge day (PDD) 30.
