A modified SEIR product to predict the behavior from the early stage throughout coronavirus and coronavirus-like acne outbreaks.
Results There was significant difference between all groups (p  less then  0,001) in terms of the VAS score at 5h after surgery (4.55,2.15,1.82); at 24h (4.15,2.65,3.36); at 48h (3.85,2.45,2.73); at 1 week (2.95,1.80, 1.64), respectively for groups CG, LIA, FNB.ROM was better in LIA and FNB groups than CG at 1 die after surgery (44°,50°,54°); at 3 dies (69°,70°,71°); at 7 dies (91°,98°,98°), respectively for groups CG, LIA, FNB (p  less then  0,001). Discussion LIA and FNB groups both showed a significant reduction at VAS score, better range of motion and less morphine consumption than CG (control group). LIA group has obtained a constant pain control in the postoperative days; FNB group had a good pain control in the hours after surgery, with a decrease in efficacy in the following days. Conclusion Further studies are still needed in order to define LIA as the reference pain management in TKA. © 2018 Delhi Orthopedic Association. All rights reserved.Aim To compare the incidence of surgical site infection with different antibiotic regimes in elective total knee arthroplasty. We hypothesise that a single high dose of Teicoplanin and Gentamicin is as effective as other regimes. Methods A retrospective study of prospectively collected data on a total of 4500 elective knee replacements over a 9-year period was conducted in a district general hospital. Data were collected on antibiotic regime, patient characteristics, infection (treatment, infective agents, sensitivities) and complications. Results Five different antibiotic regimes that have been used in elective knee arthroplasty were identified in our institution. 40 patients in total were identified who had a deep infection. Rates of deep surgical site infection were not significantly different between the five groups (p = 0.83). Conclusion A single pre-operative dose of Teicoplanin and Gentamicin has similar efficacy of prophylaxis to other regimes for patients undergoing primary elective total knee replacements. We recommend the choice of prophylaxis regimen is made locally based on pathogen virulence, drug resistance and cost. © 2018 Delhi Orthopedic Association. We report a case of femoral artery thrombosis following hemi arthroplasty with delayed presentation after a bone fragment left in situ penetrated and injured the vessel. This report is a revelation for surgeons who need to be extremely careful while operating as well as be vigilant with patients in their follow up and should assess for vascular status at each visit. © 2019 Delhi Orthopedic Association. All rights reserved.Proximal femoral fracture in an ankylosed hip is a challenging condition. There is no consensus on fixation method for these fractures. In addition, despite union the best outcome possible is the restoration of the pre morbid status. We report two different presentations of proximal femoral fracture in ankylosed hip that were successfully treated with primary total hip arthroplasty. We also discuss the surgical principles, technique and advantages of doing primary total hip arthroplasty in such cases. © 2019.Osteogenesis Imperfecta is an inherited disease characterized by easily-broken bones, which manifests as multiple fractures with minimal trauma, joint laxity, sclerosis, blue sclera, and several other manifestations. Protrusio acetabuli is defined as the displacement of the femoral head so that it lies medial to the ischioilial line. In a skeletally mature patient with both Marfan syndrome and PA, an eventual hip arthroplasty is the only method available for correction of the deformity. However, in patients with Osteogenesis Imperfecta and PA, THA remains a controversial treatment. A 14-year-old male patient diagnosed with Osteogenesis Imperfecta Type 1A presented to the orthopedic surgery clinic complaining of groin pain of 1-year duration radiating to the thigh and knee. The patient was found to have radiologic signs of protrusion acetabuli. The patient was started with bisphosphonate and after medical failure, underwent a Total Hip Arthroplasty (THA). In post-operative follow-ups, the patient had relief of pain and was able to walk more comfortably and without a lump. The previously operated hip was examined and showed no signs of infection, dislocation, or fracture. Radiographic studies show no evidence of prosthesis failure or loosening with valgus position of the femoral stem and neutral acetabular angle. Ten years after the primary arthroplasty, the previously operated hip had maintained its stability and had no related complications. Despite the controversy surrounding the treatment of younger patients with hip failure, using total hip arthroplasty, this patient exhibited excellent results, with vast improvement in their symptoms and stability. © 2019 Delhi Orthopedic Association. All rights reserved.Background Solid organ transplant patients are theoretically at increased risk for complications after total joint replacement due to immunosuppressive medication regimens and multiple medical co-morbidities. There are a number of studies that report on outcomes of total joint arthroplasty (TJA) following solid organ transplant, however, the results are heterogeneous. This study evaluated the outcomes of TJA in solid organ transplant patients as compared to non-organ transplant controls at one academic medical center. Methods This study was a single institution retrospective review of a consecutive series of patients who underwent joint replacement following solid organ transplant as compared to a control cohort over a 10-year period. Univariable and multivariable generalized linear mixed effects models were used to compare the odds of readmission, infection, mortality, and being discharged home between transplanted (cases) and non-transplanted (control) patients. Results Transplant and non-transplant cohorts had similar BMI, although transplant patients were younger (61 versus 65 years) and had a higher incidence of Diabetes (55% vs. 16%). selleck compound On multivariable analysis, there was no difference in the odds of re-admission or rate of infection, but there was an increased risk of death and admission to a rehab facility in the transplant cohort. Conclusion Overall, this study demonstrates that solid organ transplant alone does not increase the risk of peri-operative complications in patients who underwent hip and knee replacement.
