Individual MEM (g d - 1 ) was measured for 24 h. Fecal samples were taken at 0630, 1000, and 1430 LT and analyzed for fArch using Soxhlet lipid extraction and GC-MS. Cows produced less methane (364 g  CH 4  d - 1 ) during T1 and had significantly lower fArch concentrations (37.1  µ g g - 1 dry matter; DM) compared to T2 (392 g  CH 4  d - 1 and 47.6  µ g g - 1 DM). A significant positive relationship between fArch ( µ g g - 1 fecal DM) and MEM, expressed on a dry matter intake (DMI) basis (g kg - 1 DMI), was found ( R 2 = 0.53 , n = 20 ). Among samples collected over the day, those collected at 1000 LT provided the best coefficient of determination for MEM ( R 2 = 0.23 ). In conclusion, fArch offers some potential in serving as a proxy for innovative breeding schemes to lower enteric methane when fecal samples are taken at a certain time of the day, but more data on the sources of variation of the MEM   fArch ratios are required. The aim of this review was to evaluate the relationship between the body condition of cows and reproduction. Reproduction was evaluated from the viewpoint of animal husbandry traits, ovarian activity and embryo transfer. Main emphasis was given to the review of articles from the area of biotechnical methods (in vitro embryo production, embryo transfer). Most authors agree on the opinion that the worsening of the reproduction traits of cows is a result of changes in the body condition score (BCS) either under or over their average value. Worsening of reproduction traits was presented not only from a zootechnical viewpoint (e.g., calving interval, 56 d nonreturn rate, etc.) but also in term of ovarian activity, oocyte recovery and in vitro embryo production. In general, the body condition of cows is an important factor affecting female reproduction ability at the ovarian level.Lanping black-boned sheep was first discovered in the 1950s in Lanping county of China and characterized by black pigmentation on skin and internal organs. Due to the novel and unique trait, the genetic background of Lanping black-boned sheep is of great interest. Here, we genotyped genome-wide SNPs (single nucleotide polymorphisms) of Lanping black-boned sheep and Lanping normal sheep using Illumina OvineSNP50 BeadChip to investigate the genetic diversity and genetic origin of Lanping black-boned sheep. We also downloaded a subset SNP dataset of two Tibet-lineage sheep breeds and four other sheep breeds from the International Sheep Genomics Consortium (ISGC) as a reference for interpreting. Lanping black-boned sheep had a lower genetic diversity level when compared to seven other sheep breeds. Principal component analysis (PCA) showed that Lanping black-boned sheep and Lanping normal sheep were clustered into the Asian group, but there was no clear separation between the two breeds. Structure analysis demonstrated a high ancestry coefficient in Lanping black-boned sheep and Lanping normal sheep. However, the two populations were separated into two distinct branches in a neighbor-joining (NJ) tree. We further evaluated the genetic divergence using population F ST , which showed that the genetic differentiation that existed between Lanping black-boned sheep and Lanping normal sheep was higher than that between Tibet sheep and Changthangi sheep, which revealed that Lanping black-boned sheep is a different breed from Lanping normal sheep on the genetic level. In addition, structure analysis and NJ tree showed that Lanping black-boned sheep had a relatively close relation with Tibet sheep. The results reported herein are a first step toward understanding the genetic background of Lanping black-boned sheep, and it will provide informative knowledge on the unique genetic resource conservation and mechanism of novel breed formation. This experiment aimed to evaluate the effect of body condition score (BCS) of fat-tailed Barbarine ewes at lambing on their metabolic profile around parturition and lamb's growth. The experiment was carried out on 69 Barbarine ewes, divided into three groups according to BCS, which were inferior to 2, between 2 and 2.5 and superior to 2.5 for the thin, middle and fat group, respectively. Along the trial, all groups received the same dietary treatment based on hay, pasture and concentrate. Birth weight (Bi-W), weights at 30 and 70 d (W30 and W70) and average daily gains (ADGs) of lambs were recorded. BMS493 datasheet Metabolites were determined at late pregnancy and at the beginning of lactation. Ewes' BCS at lambing had no effect on lambs' Bi-W ( P > 0.05 ), which was 3.8, 3.8 and 3.9 kg, respectively, for thin, middle and fat groups. However, W30, W70 and ADG increased with a mother's BCS. A positive correlation between lamb growth parameters and ewe body weight and BCS at weaning was recorded. Energetic metabolites (glucose and triglycerides) and proteic metabolites (creatinine, total protein and urea) were similar among groups according to BCS but significantly different between pregnancy and lactation stages except triglycerides and urea. In conclusion, BCS may be used as dietary management tool during ewe lactation. With the transition from pregnancy to lactation, the content of some metabolites has changed irrespective of BCS; this aspect needs more investigations. The genetic diversity at major histocompatibility complex (MHC) in indigenous chicken breeds of India (Ghagus and Nicobari) in comparison with the White Leghorn (WLH) breed was investigated by genotyping the MHC-linked LEI0258 marker. Altogether 38 alleles and 96 genotypes were observed among three breeds. The observed and effective alleles were highest in Ghagus (23, 8.3) followed by Nicobari (14, 3.2) and WLH (10 and 2.2) breeds. The size of alleles ranged from 193 to 489 bp in Ghagus, 193 to 552 bp in Nicobari and 241 to 565 bp in the WLH breed. The number of private alleles was also highest in Ghagus (18) followed by Nicobari (8) and WLH (5) breeds. The most frequent allele was 261 bp in WLH (66 %), 343 bp in Nicobari (50.4 %) and 309 bp in the Ghagus (28.15 %) breed. Observed and expected heterozygosities were highest in Ghagus (0.83, 0.88) followed by Nicobari (0.58, 0.68) and WLH (0.53, 0.54). The genetic distance (Nei) between Ghagus and Nicobari breeds (2.24) was higher as compared to that of Ghagus and WLH (1.
