This article aims to increase providers' confidence in recognizing IPV-suspicious injuries and propose an educational, interactive tool for discussing IPV with patients.Background Vacuum-assisted breast biopsy (VABB) has recently been gaining more popularity as a modality to reach the final diagnosis, especially in indeterminate breast lesions, resulting in a decreased number of surgical interventions and unnecessary follow-ups. Objective While our primary aim was to look into the outcomes of the VABB technique, our secondary aim was to assess the impact of the method on changes in patients' management. Patients and methods This study was a retrospective database analysis of vacuum-assisted biopsies (VABs) carried out at our breast unit during the period between January 2011 and January 2018. All our cases were image-guided; the caliber of vacuum-assisted needles used was 8 gauge (G) and 11 G. Patient demographics, lesion characteristics, and outcomes were retrieved from patients' notes and the hospital database. Results A total of 122 female patients were included in the analysis, out of whom 41.8% (51 patients) were screen-detected, and 58.1% (71 patients) were symptomatic presentations. The mean lesion size on imaging was 14.8 mm (SD 12.6); 50% (61 patients) had stereotactic vacuum-assisted breast biopsy (SVAB), and 50% (61 patients) had ultrasound-guided vacuum-assisted breast biopsy (US-VAB). It is often distressing for both parents and children. Surgical options range from soft tissue debulking with or without osteotomy and physeal arrest to simple or ray amputation. Although amputation is generally reserved for the severe progressive variant of macrodactyly and revision surgery, there is controversy regarding whether initial amputation or debulking is the best approach. We present a case of isolated macrodactyly of a minor toe, where debulking showed superior results.Principles of modern surgical education for clerkship and residency were established by the novel approaches of Sir William Osler, MD, Flexner report, and Halsted's principles. The evaluation of surgical education has continued to benefit from the wisdom of the past by harnessing technologies. Rapidly changing and improving the nature of the surgery fostered that evaluation and enforced the institutions to find new solutions for surgical education. In the present descriptive technical report, our aim was threefold (1) to share acquired educational materials based on immersive technologies involving 3D-printing, Augmented Reality (AR), and 360-degree video recording to improve ongoing pediatric surgery student training at our faculty, (2) to describe workflow underlying the construction of the materials, and (3) to provide approaches that may help other students and lecturers to develop their educational materials. The educational materials, including 3D-printed models, AR hybrid student book, a hydrogel-based simulation model of the kidney, and Mirror World Simulation, were constructed. The authors, who are medical students, led the construction of the educational materials, so the educational materials were shaped by a collaboration between students and pediatric surgeons. The materials constructed enabled the students to practice surgical procedures and experience different surgical environments. We believe these educational materials can serve as a valuable resource for training in many medical specialties in the future. Our aims were to assess the proof of concept and efficiency of the IF-DIABETE system in improving clinical and metabolic outcomes in individuals with type 1 diabetes. Methods This is a prospective nonrandomized single-arm pilot study. Our patients used the IF-DIABETE smartphone application as a novel bolus calculator. Over six months period of the study, the primary outcome considered was hemoglobin glycated (HbA1c), and we identified hypoglycemic events, body mass index (BMI), and the frequency of blood glucose measurements as secondary outcomes. Results Twenty-one patients with type 1 diabetes were enrolled. The average age was 21 ± 3 years. Over a six months' period of the study, the mean HbA1c level decreased from 8.3 ± 0.8% to 7.0 ± 0.5 % with a reduction in mild hypoglycemic events' frequency from 5 ± 3 to 1 ± 0.
