Zinc(The second) Iodide-Directed β-Mannosylation: Reaction Selectivity, Function, as well as Request.
Structural equation modeling showed that psychopathology mediated the association between increased maltreatment and reduced working memory capacity (β=-0.07, p=.02), with a trend towards mediation for short-term memory (β=-0.05, p=.06). Higher levels of maltreatment, but not psychopathology, were directly linked to long-term memory deficits (β=-0.20, p=.02).

Preventive efforts targeting maltreatment and interventions focusing on related psychopathology are needed to counter memory deficits and their potential negative implications for academic and socioeconomic outcomes.

Elasmobranchs are particularly vulnerable to environmental metal contamination, accumulating these contaminants at high rates and excreting them slowly. The blue shark Prionace glauca L. is one of the most heavily fished elasmobranchs, although information regarding metal contamination and detoxification in this species is notably lacking.

Blue sharks were sampled in the western North Atlantic Ocean, in offshore waters adjacent to Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Total and metallothionein-bound liver and muscle metal concentrations were determined by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), metallothionein detoxification and oxidative stress endpoints were determined by UV-vis spectrophotometry.

Metallothionein detoxification occurred for As, Cd, Cs, Cu, Hg, Pb, Se, Ti and Zn in liver, and for As, Cd, Cs, Pb, Se, and Zn in muscle, while reduced glutathione defenses seem to be related to Co and Zn exposure.

This is the first report for several metals (Ag, Co, non-radioactive Cs, Sb, Ti and V) for this species, which will aid in establishing baseline elemental data for biomonitoring efforts, health metrics, and conservation measures.

While DOPC formed GVs in the presence of inorganic salts with a multivalent metal ion under atmospheric pressure, an equimolar mixture of DOPE and DOPC formed GVs both in the absence and the presence of LaCl3. We examined the change in size and shape of the GVs of this binary mixture in the absence and presence of LaCl3 as a function of time under atmospheric and high pressure. The size and shape of the GVs in the absence of LaCl3 under atmospheric and high pressure and those in the presence of LaCl3 under atmospheric pressure hardly changed with time. By contrast, the GV in the presence of LaCl3 under high pressure gradually changed in the size and shape with time on a time scale of several hours. SNS-032 manufacturer Namely, the GV became larger than the original GV due to accelerated membrane fusion and its shape became more spherical. This pressure-induced membrane fusion was completely irreversible, and the growth rate was correlated with the applied pressure. The reason for the GV growth by applying pressure was considered on the basis of thermodynamic phase diagrams. We concluded that the growth is attributable to a closer packing of lipid molecules in the bilayer resulting from their preference of smaller volumes under high pressure. Furthermore, the molecular mechanism of the pressure-induced membrane fusion was explored by observing the fusion of two GVs with almost the same size. From their morphological changes, we revealed that the fusion is caused by the actions of Laplace and osmotic pressure.Research supports the hypothesis that people with a positive body image engage in a cognitive process of protective filtering, whereby positive information is "filtered in" and negative information is "filtered out" to promote and maintain positive body image (Wood-Barcalow et al., 2010). To provide more insight into this process, this study qualitatively explored the experiences of young women self-identifying as having a positive body image (N = 20, Mage = 21.00) when they were exposed to beauty-ideal imagery. Participants wrote down their thoughts during beauty-ideal exposure on Instagram, and were interviewed. Via reflexive thematic analysis, we identified four themes concerning the protective filtering strategies the participants described using (a) critiquing the beauty ideal/imagery; (b) appreciating their own/other's bodies; (c) focusing on the values and personality of the women in beauty-ideal imagery; (d) linking beauty-ideal imagery with its past negative consequences. Participants described factors contributing to the effectiveness of their protective filtering, and advice for others to foster positive body image. Overall, many of the protective filtering strategies overlapped with key characteristics of positive body image. Future research may examine whether deliberately "activating" these characteristics in the face of body image-threats could protect and promote positive body image among other women as well.Intuitive eating (IE), an adaptive eating approach, has been identified as a plausible positive determinant of physical and mental well-being. This cross-sectional survey study aimed to examine the construct validity of IE measured by the Intuitive Eating Scale-2 (IES-2). The conceptual network of different adaptive and maladaptive eating behaviors was also explored. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), measurement invariance testing, and correlation analyses were applied on the data from a sample of 732 Hungarian university students. Validating variables included several eating behavior styles (i.e., obesogenic eating behaviors, mindful eating [ME], and dieting practices) and motivational factors (i.e., autonomous, controlled, and amotivational sources of healthy eating, and internalization of the thin and muscular body ideals). The results of the CFA supported the original four-factor structure of the IES-2 without a global second-order factor. The scale exhibited measurement invariance on the scalar level across sexes and BMI categories.
