Cumulatively to 27 September there have been 27,095 case notifications and 835 deaths. The number of new cases reported nationally this fortnight was 278, a 67% decrease from the previous fortnight (841). On average, this represented 20 cases notified each day over the reporting period, a decrease from an average of 60 cases per day over the previous reporting period. 82% of all COVID-19 cases for the period (229/278) were reported in Victoria, with smaller numbers of cases reported from New South Wales (32), Western Australia (9), Queensland (6) and South Australia (2). In Victoria, 92% of cases (210/229) were locally acquired with known source, 7% (15/229) were locally acquired with unknown source, and 2% (4/229) were reported as under investigation. Excluding Victoria, there were 49 cases in other jurisdictions. Of these, 69% (34/49) were overseas acquired, 18% (9/49) were locally acquired, and 12% (10/49) were under investigation at this time. The continued decrease in new cases observed this fortnight in Victoria was the result of the public health interventions to minimise transmission. A total of 8 deaths were reported from cases diagnosed in this reporting period, all of whom were >75 years old, and all from Victoria. Although testing rates declined over the past month, they remain high at 10.4 tests per 1,000 population per week. There is variability in the testing rate by jurisdiction; the rate depends on the epidemic context. The overall positivity rate for the reporting period was 0.08%. Victoria reported a positivity rate of 0.18% for this reporting period, while in all other jurisdictions the positivity rate was 0.05% or lower. The Ministry of Environment, Republic of Korea has implemented the "Framework Act on Resource Recirculation" to activate waste resource recovery. However, industrial waste treatment facilities have some problems related to diversity of waste received for proper management of wastes. Waste incineration facilities are required to receive and process combustible waste and are forbidden to re-consign waste to other waste treatment facilities without any processing. In reality, a large quantity of incombustibles is injected into the incinerator because it is impossible to completely separate the incombustible materials. Therefore, it is necessary to develop additional management criteria for optimal operation of the incineration facility. This study was conducted to improve institutional management of incineration facilities in Korea. Through a literature review and statistics study, incombustible waste management trends were investigated. The characteristics of waste entering incineration facilities were surveyed. Physical composition and proximate analysis of incoming waste were conducted, and properties of the incombustibles mixed in feedstock to waste incineration facilities were examined. As a result of this study, incombustibles mainly consisting of the construction and demolition waste, such as soil, glass, and metals should be separated from feed sent to incinerators. A mechanical screening technique that sorts particles of 30-40 mm in size can be used to separate the incombustibles. Also, management criteria could be proposed to sort and re-consign the incombustibles.Purpose 'Black Bone' magnetic resonance imaging (BB MRI) is a novel sequence developed as an alternative to computed tomography (CT) for osseous imaging. We explored its potential utilisation in the pre-operative surgical planning of posterior tympanotomy for cochlear implantation through depiction of the mastoid facial nerve (mFN) canal and the posterior canaliculus of the chorda tympani (ChT), thus defining the facial recess. Methods Twenty five adult patients were prospectively imaged with a dedicated BB MRI sequence. A consensus qualitative BB MRI 'visibility score' for the confidence of demonstration of the mFN canal and the posterior canaliculus of the ChT was recorded, as well as a 'corresponding score' to determine whether the neural structures on BB MRI corresponded to the paths of the nerves on a previous CT study. 4EGI-1 cell line Results/discussion The BB MRI sequence was able to clearly delineate the course of mFN in 100% of cases and that of ChT in 72%, with their courses corresponding to those depicted on CT in almost all cases. Maximum intensity projections with 7 mm slabs provided the optimal simultaneous demonstration of mFN, ChT and round window along the posterior tympanotomy surgical approach. Conclusion The proposed BB MRI sequence reliably depicts mFN and ChT in the majority of cases, with a performance comparable to that of CT. It is proposed that it will be a useful adjunct to MRI protocols as part of cochlear implant assessment in those centres where CT is not routinely performed. Background Exercise dependence is a phenomenon characterized by behavioral, physiological and psychological symptoms similarly to substance use disorders. Although exercise addiction is not classified as a mental health disorder. A descriptive study of exercise dependence in two different countries, Italy and for the first time Japan was performed. Methods We interviewed 229 Italian and 198 Japanese runners by using the exercise dependence scale-21 (EDS-R), a questionnaire to assess exercise dependence. Results In Italy, 86.9% of subjects were nondependent symptomatic, 4.4% wxercise-dependent, and 8.7% were nondependent asymptomatic. In Japan, participants were classified as nondependent symptomatic (49%) and nondependent asymptomatic (51%), but none considered as at-risk. Significant differences were found in all the seven EDS-R categories between the two cohorts. Conclusions Exercise dependence is a complex with many contributing factors such as neuroadaptation to protracted exposure to exercise, runner's features and contextual factors. The role of social and cultural factors of exercise dependence would need further investigations.
Assessment of risk both for pregnancy morbidity and thrombosis in the presence of anti-phospholipid antibodies (aPL) is still a challenge in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) patients. The Global Antiphospholipid Syndrome Score (GAPSS) takes into account the aPL profile (criteria and non-criteria aPL), the conventional cardiovascular risk factors and the autoimmune antibody profile. An adjusted model of the score (aGAPSS) excluding anti-phosphatidylserine/Prothrombin (aPS/PT), suggests that the score is able to stratify patients for their rate of events making it widely applicable in daily clinical practice.
To validate the aGAPSS in a multicentric cohort of SLE patients in Argentina.
consecutive SLE patients with and with andwithout thrombotic events from seven Rheumatologist centers were included. Traditional cardiovascular risk factors, aPL antibodies and medications received (aspirin, hydroxychloroquine and anticoagulation) were collected. The score aGAPSS was calculated for each patient at the last visit by adding together the points corresponding to the risk factors 1 for hypertension, 3 for dyslipidemia, 4 for LA and B2GPI (IgM or IgG) antibodies and 5 for aCL (IgM or IgG) antibodies.
