The purpose of this article was to describe a series of cases with wire breakage, hoping to arouse the attention of worldwide thoracic surgeons to this potential threat, and to share our modifications on the fixation patterns and materials in Nuss procedure.
From September 2011 to January 2020, 44 patients underwent Nuss procedure at Chongqing University Three Gorges Hospital. In the initial 25 patients (Group A), each bar was secured by stainless wires, and the latter 19 patients (Group B) received stainless wires and polyblend polyethylene sutures (PDS) in the bar fixation. Patient demographics, Haller index (HI), wire fracture rate, characteristics of the broken wires, and operation time were recorded.
The mean operation age was 8.1±4.3 years in group A and 10.4±2.9 es and PDS in the pectus bar fixation may achieve the pectus bar stability while overcoming the problem of wire fracture.

An Internet-based platform for multidisciplinary online medical consultation was established on February 8, 2020, by a national children's medical center in China. The medical data of the traditional hospital visits and novel online visits from the first two months (February 8 to March 31) after the establishment of the platform were collected and analyzed. The demographic features, changes in the disease spectrum and characteristics of online medical services were described.

Electroencephalography (EEG) is an accessible technique for bedside monitoring of the cerebral function in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). The popularization of EEG in the field of newborns in China is relatively late compared with western countries. To learn more about current practices and improvement of EEG monitoring, we conducted a survey to describe current utilization of EEG in NICU in China.
A cross-sectional electronic survey with 21-items about EEG using in NICU was administered for pediatricians in China on the official website of "Questionnaire Star".
A total of 251 participants were involved, in which 64% of them reported using EEG. EEG was employed in NICUs of Children's hospitals (97%), and grade III, class A hospitals (69%). Besides, neonatal encephalopathy and suspected seizures were the most common indications for use. Evidence on how different body composition indexes, such as body mass index (BMI), fat mass index (FMI) and fat free mass index (FFMI), influence blood pressure (BP) in Chinese children and adolescents is sparse. The aim of this study is to assess the effect of different body composition on BP in participants aged 7-18 in south China.
A cross-sectional study was conducted in 2013. A total of 1,609 children and adolescents from urban and rural areas in Hainan Province, South China, were selected using multi-stage stratified cluster sampling method. Each participant underwent anthropometric and BP tests. BMI, FMI and FFMI were calculated and analyzed as body composition indexes.
In the population level stratified by sex, FFMI had the highest r-value (Partial Spearman correlations) of correlation with systolic BP in boys (r
=0.305, P<0.001) and girls (r
=0.237, P<0.001). FMI was found to have the highest r-value of correlation with DBP in boys (r
=0.154, P<0.001). The quantile regression model indicated that, within each age group, all body composition indexes was positively associated with systolic BP, and FFMI has the greatest value of regression coefficient (4.38, 95% CI 3.81-4.95). But for diastolic BP, positive associations with BMI, FMI and FFMI were only observed in the 11-12 years group. Restrict cubic spline models showed that there were both linear and non-linear relations between BMI, FMI and BP, but for FFMI, there was only linear association with BP.
The relation between BP and FFMI was stronger than with BMI and FMI. Combined measurement of body composition should be considered to help health professionals interpret body mass data from children and adolescents with varied stature and age.

Wilms tumor (WT) is the most frequent malignancy of the kidney in children, and a subset of patients remains with a poor prognosis. This study aimed to identify key long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) related to prognosis and establish a genomic-clinicopathologic nomogram to predict survival in children with WT.
Clinical data of 124 WT patients and the relevant RNA sequencing data including lncRNAs expression signature of primary WT samples were obtained from the Therapeutically Applicable Research to Generate Effective Treatment (TARGET) Data Matrix. Then, lncRNAs associated with overall survival (OS) were identified through univariate Cox, least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO), and multivariate Cox regression analyses. The risk scores of 124 participants were calculated, and survival analyses were performed between low- and high-risk groups. A genomic-clinicopathologic nomogram was then developed and evaluated by time-dependent receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves, including the area under the curve (AUC), calibration curve, and decision curve analysis.
