How to Repair Damaged Keys
If you have one or more keys that don't work it can be a hassle to type. If you have an alternative or compatible key you can solve the issue without purchasing a new keyboard.
Begin by examining the problem. Examine any foreign material that may be blocking the key or hindering its perform as it should.
Damaged keycaps

The damage-induced influx Ca2+ starts the repair process, a multi-step process that requires the recruitment of a variety of proteins. The annexin family of proteins which is known to act as calcium sensor is one of the most important components. Each member of the annexin family consists of four to eight core domains that bind to Ca2+ arranged in a right-handed superhelix. These domains form an acidic, phospholipid-recognised Ca2+ binding site. The resultant interaction stabilizes the membrane and allows it to reform a tight pore with the least amount of surface tension.
The mechanism of the annexins' actions isn't fully comprehended, despite their significance in the repair of membranes. For instance, a new study shows that the anxin A5 (AnxA5) interacts with a protein named ALIX and thus helps in the repair of membranes. This is the first time an annexin has been associated with the specific mechanism for repair. The cells that are null for AnxA5 also exhibit defective resealing following mechanical stress.
A cytoskeleton complex known as ESCRT III and ESCRT IV is an additional component of the membrane repair mechanism. These proteins form on sites of vesicle separation to separate the cytoplasmic contents into late compartments. These vesicles are then fused with lysosomes to complete the membrane repair cycle. However, it is unclear how the ESCRT-III and ESCRT-IV complexes are connected to the injured membrane.
To better understand the role played by these membrane repair mechanisms, researchers have employed flow cytometry to identify proteins that reseal damaged cell membranes. In the flow cytometry study damaged cells are incubated with propidium iodide for 30 minutes before being analyzed by flow analysis using a Guava easyCyte 11 flow cytometer. The number of cells with PI-negative status in the gated region is recorded. The results provide an estimate of membrane repair effectiveness.

If your keyboard is a soldered model, you'll require an ad-hoc keycap puller as well as a heat source to remove the old switch.
