In this paper, the Ni-Nb coatings were successfully prepared onto the GH3039 alloys by High current pulsed electron beam (HCPEB). The transmission electron microscopy (TEM) results confirmed that the Ni-Nb layer of 10-pulsed samples exhibited partial amorphization, which was consisted of γ-Ni particles, rod-like Ni3Nb particles and nano Ni3Nb with 30 nm in size. After 20-pulsed irradiation, the results show that only Ni3Nb clusters with around 3 nm in size were dispersed in fully amorphization layer. With increased pulse number to 30, the nano-particles embedded into the amorphous layer were grown up, the size of which was about 8 nm. The microstructure evolution during HCPEB irradiation was from the partial amorphous to fully amorphous and then to nano-crystallization. The 20-pulsed samples possessed the best hardness and corrosion resistance. The ultrafine clusters uniformly embedded into amorphous layer were main reason for improving properties.The antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is characterized by the development of venous and/or arterial thrombosis and pregnancy morbidity in patients with persistent antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL). Catastrophic antiphospholipid syndrome (CAPS) is a life-threatening form of APS occurring in about 1% of cases. Lifelong anticoagulation with vitamin K antagonists remains the cornerstone of the therapy for thrombotic APS, but frequently the use of anticoagulation may be problematic due to the increased risk of bleeding, drug interactions, or comorbidities. Immunosuppressant drugs are widely used to treat several autoimmune conditions, in which their safety and effectiveness have been largely demonstrated. Similar evidence in the treatment of primary APS is limited to case reports or case series, and studies on a large scale lack. Immunomodulatory drugs may be an emerging tool in managing such particular situations, like refractory obstetrical complications, CAPS, or so-called APS non-criteria manifestations. In addition, immunomodulatory drugs may be useful in patients experiencing recurrent thromboembolic events despite optimized anticoagulant therapy. We did a comprehensive review of literature analyzing the possible role of immunomodulation in primary APS to provide a broad overview of potentially safe and effective target treatments for managing this devastating disease.Mesenchymal stem cell (MSC)-derived exosomes (MSC-Exo) are nano-sized extracellular vesicles enriched with MSC-sourced neuroprotective and immunomodulatory microRNAs, neural growth factors, and anti-inflammatory cytokines, which attenuate neuro-inflammation, promote neo-vascularization, induce neurogenesis, and reduce apoptotic loss of neural cells. Accordingly, a large number of experimental studies demonstrated MSC-Exo-dependent improvement of cognitive impairment in experimental animals. In this review article, we summarized current knowledge about molecular and cellular mechanisms that were responsible for MSC-Exo-based restoration of cognitive function, emphasizing therapeutic potential of MSC-Exos in the treatment of neurocognitive disorders.This study was performed to explore serum tumor necrosis factor-like weak inducer of apoptosis (TWEAK) and its dependent cytokines urinary excretion monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1) and regulated on activation, normal T cell expressed and secreted chemokine (RANTES) with their relation to the kidney function parameters in children with solitary functioning kidney (SFK). The study included 80 children and adolescents (median age 9.75 year) with congenital and acquired (after surgical removal) SFK. Serum TWEAK and urinary MCP-1 and RANTES levels were significantly higher in SFK patients (p less then 0.05). The serum TWEAK was positively related to serum creatinine (r = 0.356; p less then 0.001). Moreover, in SFK the receiver operating characteristic analyses revealed good diagnostic profile for serum TWEAK with AUC (Area Under The Curve)-0.853, uRANTES-0.757, and for RANTES/cr. SP600125 inhibitor AUC-0.816. Analysis carried out to identify children with impaired renal function (albuminuria and/or decreased estimated glomerular filtration rate less then 90 mL/min/1.73 m2 and/or hypertension) showed good profile for TWEAK (AUC-0.79) and quite good profile for uRANTES and RANTES/cr. (AUC 0.66 and 0.631, respectively). This is the first study investigating serum TWEAK and urinary excretion of MCP-1 and RANTES together in children with SFK. Obtained results indicate that TWEAK and RANTES may serve as potential markers of renal impairment.In this study, we experimentally demonstrated the control of light transmission through a slab of plasmonic liquid metacrystal by an external electric field. By applying the external static field, we were able to induce macroscopic anisotropy, which caused the polarization-dependent suppression of transmission at resonant frequencies. Such behavior indicates the selective plasmon excitation governed by the orientation of the meta-atoms with respect to the polarization of the electromagnetic wave. The problem of light transmission through a plasmonic liquid metacrystal was analyzed theoretically from first principles, and the obtained results were compared with the experimental data.Vision-based fall detection systems have experienced fast development over the last years. To determine the course of its evolution and help new researchers, the main audience of this paper, a comprehensive revision of all published articles in the main scientific databases regarding this area during the last five years has been made. After a selection process, detailed in the Materials and Methods Section, eighty-one systems were thoroughly reviewed. Their characterization and classification techniques were analyzed and categorized. Their performance data were also studied, and comparisons were made to determine which classifying methods best work in this field. The evolution of artificial vision technology, very positively influenced by the incorporation of artificial neural networks, has allowed fall characterization to become more resistant to noise resultant from illumination phenomena or occlusion. The classification has also taken advantage of these networks, and the field starts using robots to make these systems mobile.
