However, multiple regression analyses indicated that maladaptive personality traits added unique predictive variance above and beyond normative personality traits in their association with multiple domains of EF. These results highlight the utility of assessing both normative and maladaptive personality traits as well as multiple domains of EF to more fully understand the relationship between personality and EF.
To assess long-term vascular density measured by optical coherence tomography angiography (OCT-A) in former preterm children with history of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) with and without need of laser treatment.
This observational study included former preterm children that developed ROP stage 2 or 3. Infants were divided in two groups according to previous need of laser treatment, and underwent a complete ophthalmologic evaluation, including assessment of macular morphologic and vascular parameters by OCT-A.
Fifteen eyes were included in group 1 (laser-requiring ROP) and 19 in group 2 (non-treated ROP). Group 1 had lower mean gestational age and birth weight values than group 2 (
< 0.001 and
< 0.001, respectively). Best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was lower in group 1 (0.08 ± 0.04 logMAR vs 0.04 ± 0.07 logMAR,
= 0.03). Laser-requiring ROP had lower vascular parameters, especially of central and internal vascular density (9.15 ± 2.75 vs 10.52 ± 0.86 mm
,
= 0.05; 13.74 ± 1.00 vs 15.86 ± 0.64 mm
,
= 0.05; respectively), and lower avascular zone circularity (0.58 ± 0.06 vs 0.76 ± 0.02,
< 0.001). see more Mean macular thickness was higher in group 1 (300.50 ± 10.50 vs 281.11 ± 2.50 μm,
= 0.05). Best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was correlated with superficial vascular density (
< 0.05).
Laser-requiring ROP seems to result in a decrease of long-term BCVA, which is at least partially attributed to a decrease in superficial macular vascular density. However, prematurity degree was more pronounced in children that required treatment, which might have influenced our results.

Smoking cessation is the only therapeutic intervention which was demonstrated to interfere with disease progression. Smoking cessation intervention can benefit from pharmacological therapies such as nicotine replacement therapies, bupropion, or varenicline which can be given individually or in combination, their effectiveness being demonstrated in various clinical trials enrolling COPD patients.Areas covered The authors provide a pragmatic discussion of the clinical data of the main studies evaluating therapies for smoking cessation within COPD starting with the seminal Lung Health Study and continuing with more recent ones.Expert opinion Smoking cessation is one of the most difficult therapeutic interventions in COPD, despite having the highest impact on disease progression and despite the demonstrated benefit of the discussed pharmacological therapies. Potential approaches to maximize its chance of success might be represented by prolonging the time of administration, combinational options, or sequential pharmacotherapy. Many individuals with an intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) are attending postsecondary education programs, yet they are not always proficient in using self-advocacy skills, such as requesting an academic accommodation. Access to these accommodations is vital for success in the postsecondary settings. Literacy based behavioral interventions (LBBIs) use a combination of print, visuals, and rehearsal and are an effective tool for teaching a range of skills including job skills to this population, but have not been investigated with a self-advocacy skill. In this study, a pre-service teacher was taught to deliver an LBBI to postsecondary students with IDD so they would learn to request and use a free online tool to record class lectures. Results showed that students were able to master the skill with the pre-service teacher delivered LBBI and maintain the skill after removal of the LBBI.Clinically isolated syndrome (CIS) usually describes a first clinical episode that suggest multiple sclerosis. One of the signs and symptoms of CIS is Optic neuritis (ON). Several early intervention drugs are being tested in clinical trials for the early intervention in CIS patients which may lead to multiple sclerosis (MS). This study aim (1) early intervention of the CIS progression to MS delay slow down the MS progression, (2) since that ON affects 30%-70% of MS patients, the available ON intervention delay the MS progression. PubMed was used as a search engine. Summary relative risks (RRs) and 95 % confidence intervals (CIs) were estimated using a random-effect model. For aim 1, it showed lower risk of progression to MS compared to non-treated group (Risk Ratio (RR) 0.64; 95%CI 0.58, 0.69; p less then 0.001). For aim 2, drug treated group showed lower risk of progression compared to non-treated group (RR 0.19, 95%CI 0.06, 0.54, p less then 0.002. Statistical heterogeneity was not significant in both outcomes and bias of publication was not found using inspection of funnel plot and Egger's statistical test in both outcomes. In conclusion, early treatment should be considered in CIS patients to prevent the progression of MS. Moreover, this data shows that early intervention (Erythropoietin, Ery) of ON decreases the conversion risk to MS.
Sensitivity to the rights of people with dementia is a key principle cited in the World Health Organisation's global action plan on dementia. Some critics question whether rights-based approaches embody loose and ill-defined ideas incapable of bringing about meaningful change. Exercising the right to autonomy is considered a core problem for people living with dementia. The tradition of individual sovereignty dominates ideas about autonomy, although the person as an individual is not a cross-culturally universal concept. This study explored the viewpoints of people with dementia and family carers regarding the meaning of autonomy with a view to informing rights-based practice.
Twenty participants, people living with dementia and family carers, each conducted a Q-sort of statements regarding the meaning of autonomy. A by-person factor analysis was used to identify patterns in how the range of statements about autonomy were ranked.
Three factors emerged retaining independence and self-expression, accepting dependence but being included and opportunity for connection.
