Plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria play vital roles not only in plant growth, but also in reducing biotic/abiotic stress. Sphingomonas panacis DCY99T is isolated from soil and root of Panax ginseng with rusty root disease, characterized by raised reddish-brown root and this is seriously affects ginseng cultivation. To investigate the relationship between 159 sequenced Sphingomonas strains, pan-genome analysis was carried out, which suggested genomic diversity of the Sphingomonas genus. Comparative analysis of S. D-Galactose nmr panacis DCY99T with Sphingomonas sp. LK11 revealed plant growth-promoting potential of S. panacis DCY99T through indole acetic acid production, phosphate solubilizing, and antifungal abilities. Detailed genomic analysis has shown that S. panacis DCY99T contain various heavy metals resistance genes in its genome and the plasmid. Functional analysis with Sphingomonas paucimobilis EPA505 predicted that S. panacis DCY99T possess genes for degradation of polyaromatic hydrocarbon and phenolic compounds in rusty-ginseng root. Interestingly, when primed ginseng with S. panacis DCY99T during high concentration of iron exposure, iron stress of ginseng was suppressed. In order to detect S. panacis DCY99T in soil, biomarker was designed using spt gene. This study brings new insights into the role of S. panacis DCY99T as a microbial inoculant to protect ginseng plants against rusty root disease.Recent evidence has indicated that fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) regulates longitudinal bone growth, with increased FGF21 levels leading to bone loss. The present study evaluated the relationship between bone mineral density (BMD) and serum FGF21 levels in patients undergoing hemodialysis (HD). We analyzed blood samples from 95 patients undergoing HD and measured BMD using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry of the lumbar vertebrae (L2-L4). Serum FGF21 concentrations were determined using a commercially available enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kit. Thirteen (11.6%) patients were found to have osteoporosis, 27 (28.4%) osteopenia, and 57 patients had normal BMD. Advanced age and decreased body mass index, height, body weight, waist circumference, and triglyceride level were associated with lower lumbar T-scores, as were increased alkaline phosphatase, urea reduction rate, fractional clearance index for urea, and FGF21 levels. Low log-FGF21, increased body mass index, increased pre-HD body weight, and increased logarithmically transformed triglycerides (log-TG) were found to be significantly and independently associated with lumbar BMD by multivariate forward stepwise linear regression analysis with adjustment for significant confounders. We conclude that high serum FGF21 level is negatively associated with BMD in patients undergoing HD.The aim of this study was to evaluate the possible effect of low intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) on tooth movement and root resorption in orthodontic patients. Twenty-one patients were included in a split-mouth study design (group 1). Ten additional patients were included with no LIPUS device being used and this group was used as the negative control group (group 2). Group 1 patients were given LIPUS devices that were randomly assigned to right or left side on upper or lower arches. LIPUS was applied to the assigned side that was obtained by randomization, using transducers that produce ultrasound with a pulse frequency of 1.5 MHz, a pulse repetition rate of 1 kHz, and average output intensity of 30 mW/cm2. Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images were taken before and after treatment. The extraction space dimensions were measured every four weeks and root lengths of canines were measured before and after treatment. The data were analyzed using paired t-test. The study outcome showed that the mean rate of tooth movement in LIPUS side was 0.266 ± 0.092 mm/week and on the control side was 0.232 ± 0.085 mm/week and the difference was statistically significant. LIPUS increased the rate of tooth movement by an average of 29%. For orthodontic root resorption, the LIPUS side (0.0092 ± 0.022 mm/week) showed a statistically significant decrease as compared to control side (0.0223 ± 0.022 mm/week). The LIPUS application accelerated tooth movement and minimized orthodontically induced tooth root resorption at the same time.Vertebrate hematopoiesis is a complex physiological process that is tightly regulated by intracellular signaling and extracellular microenvironment. In recent decades, breakthroughs in lineage-tracing technologies and lipidomics have revealed the existence of numerous lipid molecules in hematopoietic microenvironment. Lysophosphatidic acid (LPA), a bioactive phospholipid molecule, is one of the identified lipids that participates in hematopoiesis. LPA exhibits various physiological functions through activation of G-protein-coupled receptors. The functions of these LPARs have been widely studied in stem cells, while the roles of LPARs in hematopoietic stem cells have rarely been examined. Nonetheless, mounting evidence supports the importance of the LPA-LPAR axis in hematopoiesis. In this article, we have reviewed regulation of hematopoiesis in general and focused on the microenvironmental and intracellular effects of the LPA in hematopoiesis. Discoveries in these areas may be beneficial to our understanding of blood-related disorders, especially in the context of prevention and therapy for anemia. This paper reports the sol-gel synthesis of Al2O3-Nd2O3 (Al-Nd-x; x = 5%, 10%, 15% and 25% of Nd2O3) binary oxides and the photodegradation of diclofenac activated by UV light. Al-Nd-based catalysts were analyzed by N2 physisorption, XRD, TEM, SEM, UV-Vis and PL spectroscopies. The inclusion of Nd2O3 in the aluminum oxide matrix in the 10-25% range reduced the band gap energies from 3.35 eV for the γ-Al2O3 to values as low as 3.13-3.20 eV, which are typical of semiconductor materials absorbing in the UV region. γ-Al2O3 and Al-Nd-x binary oxides reached more than 92.0% of photoconverted diclofenac after 40 min of reaction. However, the photocatalytic activity in the diclofenac degradation using Al-Nd-x with Nd2O3 contents in the range 10-25% was improved with respect to that of γ-Al2O3 at short reaction times. The diclofenac photoconversion using γ-Al2O3 was 63.0% at 10 min of UV light exposure, whereas Al-Nd-15 binary oxide reached 82.0% at this reaction time. The rate constants determined from the kinetic experiments revealed that the highest activities in the aqueous medium were reached with the catalysts with 15% and 25% of Nd2O3, and these compounds presented the lowest band gap energies.
